Lara Croft for CrusaDLC: The Worthy Candidate

She's popular for her first games. If Mario were to suddenly become horribly unpopular, wouldn't his name still be a household name for gaming? Of course it would. Doesn't justify Lara Croft being in the game, the fact still stands that noone likes her today

If Mario were to suddenly become horribly unpopular, would he still be featured in a fighting game with a very large, diverse roster of franchise representatives? Very likely.

Is it a Nintendo based fighting game that the character has been in before? Then yes.

Lara Croft is a 3rd Party that is not part of Smash, so you can't use Mario as an example.

Anyone want to help me out with creating an interesting moveset for her?

I already listed some of her possible fighting potentials on the OP.

Once a full moveset is made up by the community, I will post it on OP as the official moveset if she was to win DLC

Ok guys, after much work, I finally got to finish making Lara Croft's moveset. I am open to change it up to make it the most interesting moveset it can be.

Lara Croft's Moveset

Jab 1
Daggar Of Xian (vertical slash) - she pulls out the Daggar Of Xian and does an upper/vertical slash while the daggar is being held in a back hand angle.

Jab 2
Daggar Of Xian (horizontal slash) - she follows up with a horizontal/left to right slash with the Daggar Of Xian while it remains held in a back hand angle.

Description: The Dagger of Xian is a powerful artefact that will grant tremendous powers to those who stab themselves in the heart with it.Whoever does this is turned into a mighty dragon.


Jab 3
Knee Jab - she pulls her leg back a bit and launches it forward to jab the opponent with her knee.

Forward Tilt
Middle Kick/Elbow Thrust - she does a waist-height martial arts kick that stuns the opponent. This attack is only done if you hit forward tilt once. If you hit it twice, she follows up with a leaning elbow thrust. The position of the elbow thrust is similar to Falcon's Side Smash, but is weaker and has no explosion.

Up Tilt
Upper Spinning Roundhouse Kick - she short hops and does a spinning roundhouse kick above her. Has a 2-3 hit combo to it.

Down Tilt
Low Kick - she crouches down and performs a very quick low kick.

Dash Attack
Cartwheel/Handspring Backflips - while dashing, by pressing Dash Attack buttom, she will do a Cartwheel. It can be a 2-3 hit combo. If you hit the Dash Attack button again while still holding the forward button (before the Cartwheel animation finishes), she will follow up with a Handspring Backflip. You can repeat the backflip as much as you can. She will stop the backflip once you stop continuously pressing the buttons.

Neutral Air
Extended Forward Kick - she quickly extends one leg forward to attack. Think of Mario's Neutral Air attack. Only difference is that Lara Croft's kick is a bit more extended due to her length of her legs. Self-explanatory.

Forward Air
Side-Positioned Rapid Kicks - Think of Lui Kang's Bicycle Kick, but Lara does it with her body angled sideways.

Back Air
Back Spinning Kick - similar to Chun-Li's Back Air. The only difference is that Lara spins and kicks twice.

Up Air
Backflip Kick - she performs a backflip with her legs extended diagonally. This gives her upper range and a quick attack to execute.

Down Air
Diving Kick - This attack is simply the same move Shadow & ZSS have in Crusade as a Down Air.


Pummel
M26 Taser - while grabbing the opponent, Lara pulls out her K2 Impactor. This is basically her taser gun. She tases the opponent with the gun while still holding them. It stuns & shocks them.

Forward Throw
Front Shove - while still gripped to the opponent, she will pull them towards her just to eventually shove them forward, which sends them flying diagonally in the air.

Up Throw
Military Press Throw - she picks up the opponent over her head with the opponent in a horizontal angle. She then throws them up to the sky.

Judo Throw - she grips the opponent and throws them down for a Judo Throw

Back Throw
Monkey Flip - she grips the opponent, leans back, & launches them with a flip by using her legs.

Forward Smash
Excalibur - She swings the the Excalibur in a backhand swing. The Excalibur also releases a green aura that can make contact and do damage if the Excalibur itself doesn't make contact.

Up Smash
Sanglyph - She raises the Sanglyph in the air. From here, purple lightning appears in a circular position which ends with a burst of flames raining down. The explosion prior to rain is most knockback while the lightning stuns them prior to the explosion.

Description: The Sanglyph grants the bearer the power to manipulate energy into the form of purple beams or flames, with high velocity. It can also create energy barriers which allow no physical passage through them. Finally, the Sanglyph can make identical copies of the bearer and use them as weapons.
NOTE: This artifact can also make multiple copies of the person using it.


Down Smash
Split Leg Kick - she crouches down and performs a split leg kick on the ground.

Neutral Special
Dual Pistols - Dual Pistols - she rapidly shoots forward with both pistol. Pressing it will give out shots (one per gun). Holding it will have her rapidly shoot it. You can run forward, backwards, jump, double jump, shoot down, etc while rapidly shooting when holding B button. This will make her rapid shooter able to move around & jump while shooting.

Side Special
Crossbow - Lara pulls out her Crossbow. Each arrow has different elements. Those elements being Normal Arrow, Poison Arrow, & Explosive Arrow. Each arrow appear at random. She can aim it at 3 different directions. Those directions being diagonally upward, forward, & diagonally downward.

Normal Arrow - Can be used for trick shots. They are weak & have low velocity. Common to appear

Poison Arrow - When it hits an opponent, the arrow is stuck on them for a short amount of time causing repeated damage. Some-what commonly appears

Explosive Arrow - They are the strongest arrows in her possession. When they make contact, they explode with some good power. They are as strong as gernades. Rarely appears


Up Special
Spear Gun/Rope - she pulls out her Spear Gun. It can be aimed in 2 directions. It can be shot upward or forward. This is a teather recovery attack also. The spear itself has a rope tied to it's end. If the Spear makes contact to an opponent, Lara Croft can pull them up to her while she rushes forward towards them. Lara & the opponent meet halfway the distance the Spear had extended. This would be the perfect move to follow up with another attack. Think of Ristar's Side Special mechanic, but with the additional feature of doing the attack vertically as well.

Potential Gimmick To This Move!
If shot to a ceiling or any hard surface above her, Lara Croft can use the rope attached to the Spear as a swing. This can improve her recovery depending on location or used for escaping certain situations.


Down Special
Mjolnor Crusher - she pulls out the Mjolnor Crusher and slams it to the ground. This is a very strong attack. Lightning shoots out around Lara's surroundings which stuns the opponents if contact is made. Lighting only appears when it hits something solid. The real power potential is if the opponent is hit with the weapon itself. This attack can also be used as a meteor smash.

FINAL SMASH #1
Atlantean Scion - using her most notable artifact, Lara Croft raises the Scion up to the sky. A large pillar of flashes shoots down & impales the stage doing serious damage to anyone that touches it. An explosion follows up. Think of Lucario's Brawl FS.

Jeep - she hops on to a Jeep and drives it around all over the stage running over everything in sight. It can also mid-air jump.

Actually, I got a better idea.

Since the Atlantean Scion is soo powerful, it can destroy an island. It is obvious that Lara Croft could get killed herself if she raises the Scion to the sky with the massive beam/explosion occurring right where she is standing.

In that case, this is what I would propose. She would pull out the Atlantean Scion & toss it in the air. While its in the air, Lara Croft will hop into her Jeep quickly & leave the stage. Thats when the massive beam/explosion will happen where the Scion is located. Lara will appear back on the stage with her Jeep after the explosion.

Simply, Lara Croft can use the Atlantean Scion for her FS with the cameo appearance of her iconic Jeep. What you guys think?

Another idea I have to increase her recovery (since her Up B is a teather) is this. After shooting the Spear Gun, she launches her parachute to glide back on stage? What you guys think?

I'm also still trying to figure out a way for her to use her Sanglyph artifact to make multiple copies of herself. You can say she will have the the Ice Climber gimmick for a short amount of time, perhaps she can only use it once or so per match or rarely.

I can probably change the Sanglyph to her Down B special. Problem is that it will leave her Up Smash empty & no where to throw in the current Down Special.

Unless, I replace the Leg Split down smash to the electric hammer. Then give the Up Smash a different artifact. From there I put the Sanglyph as her Down special. She will use it to release 2 copies of herself to roam around the stage. One launches the purple electric waves while the other launches the flame waves. They will temporarily be on the stage. The ability can only be obtained after a period of time or by a certain method.

This is the only way I can get the "multiple copies" gimmick into her moveset.

The moveset interests me. I might vote her. MIGHT.

I almost forgot another thing. Lara uses a torch when she travels into dark areas like caves & temples. I was thinking of having her use a lit torch in her attack. Probably as a Neutral Air. She would pull out a lit torch and do one spin in-air. This would give her an offensive attack both sides in-air horizontally. What do you guys think?

I have a question though.

Currently, I have Up Special as a Harpoon Gun / Rope combination attack. Which is a teather attack as well.

But then I'm thinking of switching it to her using a Parachute. Where she flies up a short distance then decends down.

Then there is this other idea where she will use all 3 items. She first uses the Parachute to fly upward a short distance, then she shoots the Harpoon/Spear Gun & Rope combo to teather. If it hits an opponent, she lets loose of the Parachute then reels herself forward to the opponent to follow up with an open attack. Or she can Parachute then just shoot the Harpoon/Spear gun while she decends to the ground.

I would also want to ask in a Balancer's point of view on which would be best for her recovery.

What you guys think?

I think it would be best if you used the parachute, then during the float pressing B will use the harpoon gun. She would be nearly impossible to edgeguard, but that can be balanced around either by making the vertical recovery poor or forcing her to drop out of the parachute when using the gun, or even letting her recovery be godly and nerfing other areas instead.

Yea, I think I might go with the Parachute & Harpoon Gun instead of the Parachute & Harpoon Gun / Rope.

But question, since the Harpoon Gun only shoots 1 single direction, wouldn't it make it less useful against edgeguarding due the player focusing on controlling the floating back to the stage?

Well, not exactly. You only control forward and backward motion so pressing B when the opponent jumps at you should be an easy enough task.

True, your able to keep your distance and use your projectile, but while this is going on, your floating downward slowly. The more you play this back & forth motion while potentially being a victim of edgeguarding, the much more difficult it would be to grab the ledge due to timing & distractions? I don't know, seems to me there are pros & cons that somewhat equal.

Ah yes, I've seen advertisements & commercials here and there about the game. Definitely looks interesting.

As far as adding on to her moveset, I noticed that I don't have the shotgun, torch, gernade launcher, & axe pick to her moveset. Though, not sure how to make room for those moves without having to change her playstyle too much.

This is how I have it so far,

kickboxing/martial arts = Air attacks, Grabs (minus Pummel), & Tilt Attacks.

relics/artifacts = Smash Attacks

weapons/ less relics & artifacts = Special Attacks

So yea, not sure where to make room to add stuff like shotgun, torch, gernade launcher, & axe pick. Other than those 4, everything else that the current Lara Croft can do is already in the moveset.

Well, i wouldn't worry too much about new guns to be honest, the game is supposed to take some inspirations from Uncharted so there are probably a lot of different guns available, and are not focal points of her character but rather things you take off of dead enemies. What i really noticed a lot of was the Bow, Torch and Axe Pick.

Axe pick and Torch can easily be put on some tilts or aerials or something, considering those are all just martial arts moves without a real origin from the games, just based around martial arts stuff she likely knows. For example, the third hit of jab could be a torch swing.

The bow, since you already have crossbow, could be used on a throw, such as down throw. She spins the opponent around and does the bow choke-out seen as a stealth takedown quite frequently in the new Tomb Raider game videos.

Actually, I was thinking of adding the Torch to her Neutral Special. She would pull it out and spin with it.

I also would like to suggest using the Axe Pick for her Forward Air. It can be used for spiking an opponent. I had also asked Det on chat if using an F-Air to Wall Grab is possible if we ever plan to have it. He said its possible. I think it would add more to her playstyle & show off the survival tatics characteristic of her. What you guys think?

It's a pretty neat idea, I think. As long of course as ledge grab isn't always prefered over this, for whatever reasons.
