With Shantae’s confirmation and Shovel Knight’s sheer popularity, I thought I would suggest a 3rd popular Indie character who has appeared on Nintendo: Lilac from the Freedom Planet series.

Spoiler:

In terms of offensive power, Lilac has decent range in most of her attacks, and wouldn't have too much of a problem when it comes to damaging opponents. However, her KO abilities are limited, due to the attacks either having a short-ranged sweet-spot or a noticeable start-up/set-up. Her main Set-up tool, Dragon Cyclone, is also easily shielded.

Can't comment on her viability as a character overall since I've never really played Freedom Planet (as of yesterday I do own it, I just haven't gotten around to playing it). Moveset seems decent enough, however the thread would improve if you were to include some sort of visual aids. Even just copy-pasting sprites from the game would be sufficient in some cases.

Better then most indie suggestions. But it's still a Shovel Knight case to me; no matter how badly you think it's a Nintendo-family game, or how quality is, it's still got one game despite a sequel in the works and is a fairly recent one.

Neutrals are pretty cool, I like the hair attack. However the uptilt and low kick are unoriginal, maybe replace them. Smash attacks are interesting and they seem to be multi-hit based, which is something I like. Aerials are basically just kicks, it's a bit boring even if they're angled different ways. Throws are good for what they are (throws).

Neutral Special seems to just be a gimmicky projectile attack. Side Special is kind of lame, it's not really actiony and doesn't pop out to me. Down Special is just Sonic's Down Special. Up Special is the best out of them all in my opinion.

Overall your weak spot are your specials and aerials.

However, the character itself..no support. Sorry. When Freedom Planet gets more games and more popularity then perhaps I'll reconsider.

Fair enough Shaq, though some of the moves mentioned (Low kick, aerials, and all of the specials) are more-or-less pulled straight from the game. As for more easily replaceable moves, the Up Tilt, Back air, and Up air are definitely in the suggestion. Also, the neutral special is not a projectile; I realized I didn't really explain it correctly (The move in the game is not a projectile, though it "could" be changed into a projectile for Crusade)

Also, even though I like the character myself, and would like to see her in Crusade, I would still put true Nintendo characters ahead of Indie Characters "accepted" by Nintendo.

Support! (although we all know Carol is better)

Also, the dspec is Sonic's dspec because Freedom Planet literally has a spindash.

Okay, but it's still unoriginal. I understand that it's canon to the source material but it's just copy pasting Sonic's spindash

The "Spin Dash" is Lilac's Dash attack. Her down special is more akin to Chun-Li's Up special

Example of Dragon Cyclone (Top one):
Spoiler:

Also, gameplay wise, I prefer Milla, though personality wise, It is split between Carol and Lilac.

Chances are if I've made one of these I support said character.

Suprised you didn't already post this though, OP, as I do the palettes for smashified ;P

EDIT: If you give me a couple of minutes, I could draw up what I would do for her moveset?

Actually, I just finished my own ideas for pallet swaps, just haven't uploaded them in any way yet.

Also mine only changes the color of the outfit, not her hair/eye/skin color...

Edit 2: Go ahead. Would like to see someone else's ideas (Hopefully with a better Final Smash; mine is more of an "emergency" one)

Spoiler:
Final Smash Holo-Dragon Assault, with the A moves and such we can easily pick those out of the main games sprites, but this is what I'd have for specials.

I like the Holo-Dragon idea, but with the specials, I do prefer my specials, though I might replace "Pounce/Wild Claw" with the Spin-Dash. Its there mainly because, while I hate borrowing moves from other characters, I prefer characters having somewhat unique moves (especially specials).

Made some minor updates/changes:

Jab is now a 2-hit attack
Forward and Back air swapped
Up tilt completely changed
Up Air changed from a flip-kick to an upwards kick (similar to Snake's)
Added the origin of the Final Smash

I also plan on adding the original animations for the specials (and possibly regular attacks that apply)

Made some more edits:
Replaced Down Smash with something based off an ability in Freedom Planet
Moved "Dragon Cyclone" to Neutral Special
Moved "Shield Burst" to Side Special
Added "Dragon Star" as a Down Special
Removed "Pounce/Wild Claw"
Added an Alternate Final Smash (Read Note 2)

Edit: Just added the references for attacks that aren't completely made up. (Odd that Lilac's only upward hitting move is Rising Slash)

Honestly I don't think nair and dash attack being similar to Sonic is really a BAD thing. They're things she has in the original game, and FP is basically a Sonic fangame with a new coat of paint (not that that's a bad thing at all given it's an excellent Sonic fangame)

They are still very similar (they both still involve curling into a ball), but I changed how the hitboxes would work. I think of it like how Falco and Fox both have basically the same specials, but each one has its own unique properties (especially if you look at Melee/Project M).

I have noticed a few other things in Freedom Planet as well. The Nair (based off of the Drop Kick or Dragon Boost charge-up) hits multiple times in Freedom Planet, and I finally started to use Carol in the game (which is more-or-less where the dash attack came from), and when she is Rolling, she has the ability to still jump (I might remove that part of Lilac's dash attack though). I might add a "Similarities" list to compare Sonic and Lilac (as Freedom Planet IS based off of the classic Sonic Games)

Edited the Dash Attack (Removed the "Jump out of Dash" ability)
Added the original sprite animations for the Taunt and Victory
Edited the quote said when using the Final Smash "Team Attack" (Still missing a "It Missed" quote)

Edit 2: Also fixed the odd sizes of the In-Game Sprites of Lilac. Now they are much more realistic in size.

Edit 3: Made the Back Air turn Lilac around in the air.

Thanks to everyone who is supporting this. I didn't realize that Lilac (or Freedom Planet) was this popular among people here Smile

Also, I changed the Down Smash (Again) to what I refer to as "Phantom Blocks", which is based off of one of Milla's attacks. The reference pic will be available in a moment. The References are up now.
Also edited the Side Tilt to appear more like the Freedom Planet's original animation it is based off of.

First, thanks for the support.
Second, you can always create your own suggestion (similar to what I did with Lilac). That will allow people who share your opinion to agree, and shed light on those who don't know who that is (me included)
