This stage has a layout similar to SSF2's Tower of Salvation. It's a pretty awesome stage, and one of my personal favourites.

If this stage was semi-fused with FD (Striking Planet's Core won't strike FD, but striking FD will strike both), what would your opinions be on that?

I think the stage is fine layout wise but... the art is pretty ugly. Puke greeen ewwww!

Where did this stage go? It's not on the Stage Select screen, but it's still in the game files? Do one of the unlockable stages replace it, did it get removed, or am I just blind?

It was removed a demo or two ago. One of our previous developers was making 3D rendered stages (Planets Core being one of them). That was direction the team was going with the stages at one point. Eventually, the team decided to stick with sprites stages instead, which personally I'm more than relieved. Planet's Core is or was expected to get a sprite version of the 3D rendered version, however not sure what happened to those plans.

Ah, okay. I thought I remembered it being in the last demo, but I could easily be wrong. Hope it can make it's way back, eventually (even if having a Final Fantasy stage without any FF characters is a bit odd).

I'm also very much so on board with sprite-based stages over 3D renderings. Meta Crystal (where, I assume, the crystals in the background are 3D rendered) looks awesome, but it runs really slowly for me. Probably not a common problem, since I've got a relatively low-end laptop, but since sprite-based stages look more consistent and run smoothly for everyone, I'd agree they're the option to go with.
