PostSubject: Wolf O'Donnel (Star Fox) Discussion - Playtime's over!   Fri Mar 20, 2015 1:35 pm


Time to bring back a Star Fox character that has more potential about being different from Fox than Falco (and even Falco managed to be different from Fox thanks to Brawl).

Normals, Smashes and Aerials: Same like in Brawl (because they are already original & not clone material)

Neutral B: Trap Shot
*Wolf will shoot a non-harming projectile with his blaster. After a certain distance, the projectile turns into a plasma burst that deals electric damage and multiple hits. Like the name suggests it, that special is good for setting up traps.

Side B: Wolf Illusion
*It's a bit like Fox Illusion, but it has more vertical movement and goes diagonally up instead of in a straight horizontal line. Because of it, Wolf will NOT stop at the end of ledges, and at the end, Wolf will fall without being able to do any attack (kinda like that state after using Up+B in mid-air for many characters).

Up B: Ice Wolf
*Fox has Fire Fox, so his opposite needs an oppsite as well. The attack has bigger range than Fire Fox, can deal multiple hits and can even freeze opponents. However, it's also weaker than Fire Fox, and Wolf does NOT stop in mid-air when charging his Ice Wolf in mid-air, making it a high-risk-high-reward kind of recovery special. As a bonus, if you hit B again when Ice Wolf connects, Wolf will then do his rising kick special from Brawl, giving him even more vertical boost.

Down B: Reflector
*Works just like Fox' Reflector, but the reflected shots are different. They now deal 3x damage instead of 2x damage like Fox' Reflector, but the reflected shots will NOT imitate the movement of the projectile when imitated, but it will be more of an angled shot, which would result in a shorter range.

Final Smash: Star Wolf Assault
*Thanks to Naughty Ottsel for the idea. Wolf jumps out of the stage and into his Wolfen, and then you see the Wolfen cockpit. Now you can shoot at your opponents. First shot is a single-shot green laser shot three times, second shot is a double-shot green laser shot three times, third shot are the blue hyper-lasers, and the fourth and final shot is Smart Bomb that is more powerful than the item version (if Smart Bomb as an item will be ever added to Crusade).

I like the distinctions made here between Wolf and the other SF characters, too. Plus, if Sonic gets four reps, why shouldn't Star Fox? (Disclaimer: that doesn't mean I think we need four SF reps, just that it's justified if we do have a fourth, since Sonic has four reps and everyone wants Robotnik so it could potentially even be five)
My only thing is that I think his Final Smash should be his Wolfen starship. I don't remember Wolf ever using the Landmaster, and it's already Fox's Final Smash.

Sonic is a much, much bigger franchise than Star Fox

Actually, you just gave me a nice idea.
What if Wolf will indeed fly in his Wolfen for his Final Smash, but would be nothing like Falco's Final Smash. It actually will be more like Zero Suit Samus' Final Smash from SM4SH, where she shoots down her opponents with her starship (complete with aiming and all).
What do you guys think about it?

I definitely support it! It sets him apart from the other characters even more, which is something the Star Fox characters need, while still using an established, understandable move.
What if he started off using the initial single-shot green laser at first, and over the course of the Final Smash it upgraded to the double-shot green lasers, then the blue hyper-lasers, and ended with a couple Smart-Bombs?

Wow, that's actually very neat and sets his Final Smash apart from Zero Suit Samus' Final Smash from SM4SH even more. Will include that to the first post under the name Star Wolf Assault.
Also, if character-specific winquotes will be a thing, then Wolf totally should have "Can't let you do that, Star Fox" as his winquote against Fox, just like how Fox had a special winquote in Melee when he fought Falco.

Zero Suit Samus's final smash is basically identical to Snake's final smash, which is also in Crusade by the way. I suggest having Wolf team up with Leon Powalski, the Sniper of the group, and then have him shoot a fast, powerful shots aimed at the target, as opposed to Zelda's final smash which just goes in a straight line. He does this three more times before disappearing.

By the way, Wolf should totally run on all fours when dashing. Twisted Evil Also support.

I'm behind this. The only change I'd make is that Wolf's U-Spec should still slow his descent as it charges, since just plain falling would make it kind of useless for recovery, I'd imagine (especially since Wolf would already be a fairly heavy character if we're going by Brawl statistics). It would still be less effective for recovery than Fox's U-Spec, but it'd still, y'know... Recover.
One last change to U-Spec is that you'd have to keep the finishing kick. That is the most awesome part of that move.

The only other change I'd make is that you keep N-Spec as it worked in Brawl, but have the trap shot be an alternate variation of the attack initiated by either holding A just before Wolf shoots, or via a "Smash Special" ala the Shakunetsu Hadouken.

But either way... Full support. My first Smash Ballot vote was for Wolf, and I've always loved to play as him in any incarnation he's been in. Seeing him in Crusade would just be icing on the cake.

Yeah, true...I just want Snake's final smash to be unique. Oh, and we absolutely NEED to have "Can't let you do that, Staaaar foooox!" somewhere in his moveset!

Actually, if Wolf is to get an unique victory theme, then it has to be based on a part of the Starwolf Theme, just like how Dark Pit's victory theme in Smash 4 is based on a part of Dark Pit's Theme.

I support Wolf to be in Crusade.

One of few Nintendo villains of a notable Nintendo franchise. However, I feel that he should be slightly revamped some more to stand out from Fox & Falco. Speaking of which, I don't feel he should be included in the game until the current Star Fox cast gets a resprite. In order for Wolf to match the current Star fox team visually, he will have to be intentionally sprited all crappy, which is not the right path for the project.

Actually, before Fox and Falco get a resprite, Krystal should get one first, because her sprites are worse in pretty much every way.
And sadly, I have no idea, who the original spriter of the SSF2 Fox is (and I have no idea if he's outside the SSF2 Dev Team like the creator of the Ness sprites and Link sprites of that game, where we/I could easily just credit the spriters with no problem instead of waiting for permission), and I have no idea, if he only did Fox or if he also did Falco.
