| Ok, here's the idea: Cards would replace trophies or stickers in Crusade. These cards would be usable in a separate game (Accessible from the main menu). This is a standard type of TCG, designed with Smash Bros and various TCGs in mind.
I feel like this could greatly help out Crusade by:
-Providing a different kind of collecting experience, instead of using trophies or stickers. -Greatly increases your game's replay value. -Helps attracts different fanbases. -Adds some variation to your game by pretty much being a 2nd game. -Kind of allows a way to play with characters that didn't make it into your game's roster.
These cards could be obtained via achievements, lottery (Ala Melee trophies), a shop, mini-games, or maybe even trading with other players! However you think is best.
I have a team of a few people together to design every card, as well as be able to balance them. Anyone who wants to join in is welcome to.
(Wall of text below, don't read if you don't want to know how to play)
Here are the the general rules:
- 40-60 card deck. - Up to 4 copies of a single card in your deck.
Turns are made of:
-Start Phase = Draw a card from the top of your deck. -Action Phase = Play cards and attack with characters. -End Phase = End your turn.
Each player starts the game by:
- Drawing 5 cards from their respective decks. - Having 5 stocks. - Having 0 points.
-At the start of each of your turns (except the 1st turn of the player who goes 1st), you draw 1 card from the top of your deck.
-Whenever one of your characters is destroyed, you lose 1 stock. Whoever reaches 0 stock first loses the game.
-Points are used to play cards. At the beginning of each of your turns, you gain 3 points. You can see how much points are required to play a card in the lower right corner of each card.
There are 5 zones:
Deck Hand Field Discard Pile Removed Pile
There are 5 card types:
Characters Events Items Music Stage
Characters are the main part of the game.
- You can only play 1 character each turn (there are exceptions, such as Sonic shown above) - Characters have 2 stats; HP and ATK. - The HP stat determines how much damage the character can receive before it's destroyed. - The ATK stat determines how much damage the character deals when performing an attack. - Characters are not able to perform an attack during the same turn they come into play (There are exceptions, such as Sonic). This is known as summoning sickness in some card games. -If your opponent doesn't control any characters since the start of your turn, you may do a direct attack with one of your characters. This causes your opponent to lose 1 stock. You may only do 1 direct attack each turn.
Events are cards that do an effect and are then placed in your discard pile.
-You can play any number of events each turn, as long as you have the required amount of points to spend.
Items are cards that you can equip to your character, giving bonuses and other effects.
-You can play any number of items each turn, as long as you have the required amount of points to spend. -Characters can be equipped with any number of items. -When the equipped character is destroyed, the equipped item is destroyed along with it.
Music are cards that stay on the field continuously, granting some effect while on the field.
-You can play any number of music each turn, as long as you have the required amount of points to spend. -Music cards remain on the field, until a card effect removes it. -You can have multiple music cards out at a time.
Stages are cards that grant an overall effect that affects both players.
-You can play any number of stages each turn, as long as you have the required amount of points to spend. -There can only be 1 stage card out at a time (this includes both you and your opponent). Whenever a player plays a stage card when there's already a stage card on the field, that previous stage card is destroyed. -Stage cards remain on the field, until a card effect removes it or another stage comes into play.
So that's it!

| Sounds cool to me, but it'd likely be a pain to code. If it's do-able, then I'd be glad to help out. |

| I'm only worried about how much space it'll take up. The file is already pretty big, and the game isn't even complete yet. |

| Almost identical to MTG. I love it
EDIT
40-60 card decks would be too big to be strategically viable in a TCG of this nature. 40-60 is typical in MTG, but in MTG 40% of your deck is mana cards, which this game has no need of. Therefore, the proper deck size is 24-36 cards technically, but it might make more sense to use easier numbers such as 20-40, or maybe 25-40
I would love to help with rules, abilities, card wordings, and other things of that nature if this happens (I am extremely knowledgeable in the rulings of MTG, which this is obviously based on). Me and a large group of my friends are heavy MTG players, and I am usually the "go to" guy when things get really technical |

| I would prefer the characters were sprite based though, unlike in the OP. |

Yu-Gi-Oh has a minimum deck size of 40 and has no mana - Small deck size leads to broken combos. We want the game to be as balanced as possible.
I think the main thing you'd need to help with would be abilities, since any rule changes will most likely be due to limitations in coding. You could also help with playtesting and balancing, as those are going to be the most important things to do.
@Staypuft: Assuming around 500 cards or so (How many trophies/stickers in Brawl?), that's just a bunch of single image files (Smaller than animations)... and we can always use jpg to save space. The code doesn't take up too much room. Generally, the biggest source of filesize is music from what I've seen.
@Ganon: Not sure how appealing it would be in sprite form... It's just an image either way. |

| Assuming 40 KB per jpg (pngs take about 5x as much space so use jpgs), and assuming 500 cards, that comes out to 20 MB. Maybe there will be more or less cards, who knows. All effects and sounds can probably be taken from elsewhere in the game, maybe take an extra few MB maximum... and coding doesn't take up much room.
The main problem I see is difficulty in coding, but that's up to the coders.
All I need is approval from Falcon before I really start working on this. |

| Music cards, I love it!! Idea seems pretty cool. The cards look good as well even though they are using borrowed graphics but whatever. Either way I enjoy this and if it's code-able, then have at it. |

| Alright then, I'll start work on this as soon as I can.
Is there anything specific you can't code? Like any possible effects, such as negating, tokens, etc. |

| Alright, any requests for characters? Remember, all playable characters get character cards, and I have at least 70 or so more lined up. I'm planning on 200 total (Since 500 total cards). |

| With only 5 stocks and losing 1 to a direct attack or character loss, won't it be a little short? |

| it would be cool but I don't think it's totally necessary for the game. Shouldn't you guys focus more on the gameplay aspect and other game modes that revolve around the basic elements of Smash, like Training mode, etc? |

I've found games last around 10 turns on average, is that too short? It could last longer depending on playstyle...
Really, this is going to be mainly me working on it with my team (Composed of a few people not members here). Then Falcon can code it and that's it. |

Right, even though MTG decks use only 24 playable cards with the rest being mana, that doesn't mean that if decks did not need mana, they would then have to be 24 cards. The presence of those 16 mana cards means you are drawing those other 24 less often than if you were using a 24 card mana-less deck. That was a derp moment on my part, didn't really think that one through (MTG is the only TCG i play)
Well, anywhere you can use me, let me know. I'm happy to help, and I'm sure my MTG playing friends wouldn't mind playtesting this game with me |

| I play Yugioh, so I don't think I'd be much help balancing a MTG based game XD. Good luck though, I'd love to play this. Hopefully online trading can be added with enough time. And there's always the option of DLC. |

| Here is the list of the currently-planned list of 200 characters in alphabetical order. Should I go to 250, or start replacing stuff if I need anything?... I'm not sure. I know I need Crazy Hand, Andross, M. Bison...
Also, would you guys like more characters from already-repped series or more new series? I tried to have a lot of new series here, but not sure if that was a good idea...

I know he's obscure, but I've been waiting 8 years for anything new for the series, and if this is the best I can do, so be it. |
