Actually you can't get a loss because you actually didn't compete.

So 1 didn't show up and 3 left halfway through the tourney.

Something needs to be done about these tournaments having people drop in & out, showing up late, call outs, and lasting 3-8 hours.

Yes I agree, perhaps it should be noted on main page quicker, and have more time for people to check if they can participate, because it's not easy to have 8 people all available at once.
