| DEBUT: Yoshi's Island (1995) MOST RECENT APPEARANCE: Yoshi's Woolly World (2015)Poochy is an adorable dog all fans of Yoshi know and love. He's been helpful to his friend Yoshi across numerous Yoshi's Island games, and despite appearing only in a few select levels in some games, he will always be the little doggy sidekick we all know and love. He's also enjoying a surge in popularity due to the release of Yoshi's Woolly World, where he plays a big part! WHY POOCHY?I know what you're thinking, friend: "What a weird and bad suggestion! Also, this guy doesn't even like sports!" I don't watch sports but that's besides the point Yoshi's Island has about six choices for a good rep, as far as I can tell: Baby Mario & Baby Luigi, Kamek, Shy Guy, Baby Bowser, Raphael the Raven, and, of course, Poochy. We could have some other baddies, but these all stand out. Why Poochy over Baby Mario & Baby Luigi?I actually created the topic for those two. For one, you could count the babies as a Mario rep. Besides that, there may not be that much reason. But that brings us to the other characters. Why Poochy over Kamek? Kamek, in my opinion, would be a great Yoshi rep. But why can't we have both Poochy and Kamek? If we can't have both for a few versions, I'd choose Kamek in terms of importance, but Poochy is important as well. Why Poochy over Shy Guy?Shy Guy, despite being my favorite Mario minion, is a minion. I'd like him in Crusade, but there's tons of Shy Guy's. It'd be sad to see the various others besides the generic Shy Guy's go to waste. Shy Guy's are generic baddies in both the Mario and Yoshi series. He wouldn't be ideal for just a Yoshi rep. Why Poochy over Baby Bowser?Everything Baby Bowser could do, Bowser Jr, as a Mario rep, could do better. Baby Bowser is out for the count if he's not an alt imo. Why Poochy over Raphael the Raven, and other assorted bosses?Well, because all Raphael can do is just jump, and the other bosses normally just have a schtick and stick to it. If you can think of any other possible Yoshi reps just let me know. Now that that's all out of the way, let's get to the other facts. Poochy has been in all Yoshi's Island games in one way or another excluding the DS one, which, while an excellent game, was a departure from a lot of Yoshi features, including Poochy, and has also been in Tetris Attack as a playable character. He is one of the most recurring characters in the series, minor or not. Poochy may seem like a bit of a ridiculous suggestion, but let's think about it; Does Crusade have the most serious roster? I mean, let's see, we have... Weegee, Gooey, Snivy, Petey Pirahna, Tingle, Ristar, and even Goku. And I am sure there's gonna be even more surprises in the future. So, why can't Poochy be one of those surprises? He'd be a hilarious and fun addition to the cast. A little, brave dog against the likes of Ridley? And one from a Nintendo game, no less? (and hey, I'm sure he and Duck Hunt Dog would get along!) So let's recap.1. Is actually a rep that makes sense for the Yoshi series; he's one of the most recurring characters and has a major role in the most recent game. He is only absent from one true Yoshi's Island game, and has even been playable once. 2. Could be another one of Crusade's trademark "surprise!" characters. 3. Isn't just a generic baddie. That's a bit uncommon to see from the Yoshi's Island series. 4. We do really need another Yoshi's Island rep. 5. He is a cute little dog, what's not to love? Now that we're done with all that reasoning so you won't close this thread right after reading it, let's get to the good stuff.. Poochy's MovesetIn this section, I will try and prove to you guys that Poochy, despite just being a little dog, has great potential for a moveset. As I said, his moveset will mix a little bit of everything Yoshi, from yarn balls to spikes, in his moveset. Be warned; his normal moves are a bit funny and odd, because, well, Poochy is a pretty odd and funny character. Poochy's Normal Ground MovesNeutral Move: Poochy throws his paw out, then another paw out, then he faces backwards and kicks back. Jab: Poochy does his back-kick continually. Forward Tilt: Swings his head forward, baring his teeth. Forward Smash: Lashes out and bites forward. Back tilt: Poochy wags his tail back and forth fast. Back Smash: Digs a hole in the ground and kicks dirt out, the dirt having good damage if it hits. Down tilt: Crouches and does a spin, think kinda like one of Wario's moves where he does a full circle on the ground: Down Smash: Darts out forward fast, smashing into any opponent Poochy hits. Up Tilt: Hops up and bites up. The hop isn't actually a jump, it's more just an animation, but if the hop hits, it can hurt. Up Smash: Poochy's tounge goes upward, very ferociously. Kinda like Yoshi's tounge going out, except upward and Poochy doesn't eat you. A bit of a thin hitbox, but does bit damage if it hits. Poochy's Normal Aerial MovesNeutral Aerial: Throws his paws out, like his normal ground move, except more frantically. Forward Aerial: Swings out his tounge in a slapping motion. Back Aerial: Kicks his feet back and wags his tail. Up Aerial: Does a headbutt upwards. Poochy's SpecialsNormal Special: Poochy gets out a ball of yarn and, as it charges, makes it bigger. If fully charged, the yarn ball, when thrown, goes far and hits softly but does good knockback. If not charged, it goes a short distance and doesn't do much damage. Side Special: Poochy power walks. An odd move, but once you consider how Poochy's main power is how he can walk on things like spikes, it's not so odd. He has super armor for most frames of the attacks but can be damaged. If he walks into an enemy, he deals damage and a bit of knockback and keeps walking. Up Special: There's two things you can do for this one. Poochy hides in a bush then leaps up. This can be charged, so if you charge it all the way, he soars high, and does great damage if he hits an enemy. If this is done off the stage, he doesn't hide in a bush, because that's impossible! Poochy hangs onto a stork that swoops by and kicks out at enemies. The stork primarily goes horizontal. Down Special: Digs into the ground and comes out with a random Yoshi related item. Think things like eggs, fruit...Some items can heal him, but most can be thrown at enemies. Poochy's GrabsNormal Grab: Bites out at the opponent with his teeth, and if grabbed, hangs onto them with his teeth. Pummel: Licks his opponent! It still does damage, though. Side Throw: Swings around and throws his opponent forward: Back Throw: Same thing as the side throw, but does a backflip to the other way before he does it. Down Throw: Slams the opponent to the ground and bounces on them. Up Throw: Throws the opponent upward with his teeth. Poochy's Taunts and ColorsTaunt 1: Gets out a plush of Yoshi and dances around with it. Taunt 2: Falls asleep, then wakes up suddenly, and barks two times. Taunt 3: Eats a random fruit. Doesn't heal him, just aesthetical. Color 1: Just normal little Poochy. Color 2: Body green like Yoshi, and his spots red. His tail is brown, like Yoshi's shoes. Color 3: Lower half of his body gray like a diaper, and the rest of his body flesh-colored, like Mario, and his head red like Mario's cap. His tail is blue. Color 4: Legs are white and the rest of his body, except for the face, is blue like Kamek. His face is Kamek's yellow, and the top of his head is blue. His tail is brown like a broomstick. Color 5: Head is white with two little black circles, and his body red. His tail is blue. This is a Shy Guy, if you don't see. Color 6: Head is green and body yellow, as is his tail. His feet are silver. This is a Bowser inspired costume. Color 7: He gets a yarny texture. This may take some extra spriting, but I'm not sure how much.. Arguments Against Poochy-He's not major enough! Think about it; What other character, besides Kamek and the Baby Bros. has appeared in all the Yoshi's Island games except one (excluding Baby Bowser, because as I said, his chances are very low) -He just couldn't work! But..didn't I just prove you wrong? I made an entire moveset. -A better Yoshi rep would be Kamek. You're right. However, why can't we have Kamek and Poochy? Perhaps Poochy could be DLC, if we get DLC? END NOTEMy computer crashed 2 times while doing this..I'd really like some feedback in return! Seriously though, feedback is really appreciated. What do you guys think of Poochy? If you still don't support him, why not? What can I add? What can I do? I hope my reasoning for Poochy wasn't bad. I hope the moveset wasn't either. Hope you enjoyed. Here's hoping for Poochy!

| You forgot about Stork Stork is another Yoshi rep that some people want.
Personally if we needed another Yoshi rep tho, it should be the Baby Bros. or Kamek. Someone even more reoccurring than Poochy. |

| Honestly, I don't see why we need a Yoshi rep in the first place. A good portion of Yoshi's characters originated from the Mario series or appeared more in the Mario series than Yoshi games.

| I think the moveset could use some padding, but overall, support! I think Poochy's got some great potential as a unique Yoshi rep. Now, I am obliged to address the fact that, of my two grievances with SMW2: Yoshi's Island, Poochy is one. For any children on this site, please continue past my post. - Spoiler:
FUCK YOU, YOU SON-OF-A-GOD-MOTHER-COCK-SUCKING-FUCKING-DAMN-BITCH POOCHY! YOU UNRELIABLE JACKASS, ALWAYS JUST SPEEDIN' ALONG PAST THE SPOT WHERE I LAND WITHOUT A GODDAMN CARE IN THE WORLD, WHILE I BURN IN THE FUCKING LAVA! LEARN TO MOVE WITHOUT INSANE FLUCTUATIONS IN VELOCITY YOU FUCK!
Poochy is fine after SMW2. |

Yes, and some didn't. So, I made a thread for one of the characters who did originate from Yoshi. Yoshi is a famous franchise and has multiple games, almost all very well-recieved. It's one of Nintendo's most famous platforming series. - OmegaSteve777 wrote:

| @Lego Shaq: Yes, ofcourse, there are characters that stayed exclusive. Though why add a minor character for the sake of giving Yoshi a 2nd playable rep? Why not properly represent the Yoshi series in a different way. Maybe more alt colors or more stages.

I mean, we wouldn't represent any other series like that (as far as I know) with alt colors and stages. Also, Poochy, once you think about it, doesn't really have anyone hindering him that's not Kamek or Baby Bros. |

Why not? And, why can't we have Kamek (I'm assuming that's who you want) AND Poochy? I can really only think of 2 other reps that could take priority over Poochy. |

If you read it, you'd see that I said it mixes a bit of everything Yoshi in his moveset. Yarnballs represent Yarn Yoshi. Storks represent one of the main factors in the story of various Yoshi games. Walking is a prime abillity for Poochy. |

| Poochy is an interesting idea... You even gave some arguments about why we should pick him. However, what would his gameplay be like? What makes him a unique addition to the roster? None of his special moves stand out to me as a gimmick (like Phoenix's vB) an he doesn't have a passive thing (Inkling ink), so I'm looking for something playstyle specific. As of right now, no support. The Baby Bros were more interesting, and Kamek is still an available option. - Lego Shaq wrote:

His gameplay is a heavy hitter with low range, however, despite being heavy, he is good at playing keep-away with his opponents. So, you could even spam the yarn ball then finish off your enemy by running up to them with your super-armor side-b. I don't know if you want to support the Baby Bros, but if you do, I have a thread for them. |

I don't know if you want to support the Baby Bros, but if you do, I have a thread for them. Not sure how unique that is... Crusade already has heavy characters that can keep away (Ganondorf, Ridley, Porky, even Petey), and I'm not sure why Poochy is a heavy character. Still on the fence about supporting Baby Bros. I would like to see your ideas for Kamek - in the past, I feel like Kamek threads didn't reach his full potential. |

I haven't thought of any Kamek ideas, and if I have, well, not like I could write one out in a thread. Plus, a Kamek thread would take away from Poochy's possibility, most likely. I'd like to see both my ideas (Baby Bros and Poochy) work somehow as Yoshi reps, but I know Kamek would be better then both. |

| Actually, I don't think Kamek would be that good of an idea, mainly because he has a problem, that was already a big apparant problem for Ridley aside from the size, which doesn't really fit Ridley, but fits Kamek: he wont be source accurate. Sure, Ridley cannot fly a lot in Crusade, but Ridley couldn't fly in Metroid either. However, Kamek was all about warping, broom flying and transformation magic. The first two wont work because they would turn Kamek into a boss character, while transformation magic would be very resource-heavy. Take all three things out, and what do you get? An empty shell and nothing else. Hence why I think that Kamek as a playable is an awful idea. Good day, sirs. |

Light heavy hitter with projectile spam... that kind of reminds me of Yoshi or Snake, but I guess it's not too common (though I think it's fairly common in suggestions to have a glass cannon character). I'm still not going to support for now, but it's not a bad suggestion, and you did put a lot of time into it. Doesn't that seem wrong to purposely not make a character suggestion thread because it will detract from 'lesser' choices? Sure you're biased towards Poochy and Baby Bros (I'm biased towards certain characters too, I understand), but it would probably be better for the game to work on more significant characters first. By the way, I wouldn't use the argument that we have Weegee and Goku, who are one-off cases and we shouldn't repeat those same mistakes. |

Any character can function as a character, and besides, I just told you how. Not every character needs a unique feature. That's just unbalanced. I already told the thread how he's unique; Light-weight with heavy attacks and good at playing keep-away. That may not be the uniquest thing ever, but it's something. I can't really say that ANY character can function as a full fighter in Smash Bros (unless you mugen it, of course). Some characters are just TOO minor in terms of importance and don't really have the amount of abilities required to make up a full moveset. Poochy faces the same problem. |

I literally just wrote an entire moveset so I don't understand what the problem is. I just proved Poochy can have a moveset. Once you think about it, is Poochy really as unimportant as everyone makes him out to be? He's been in every Island game but one. And he has a bigger role in the latest game. I mean, let's look; 1. Kamek 2. Baby Bros 3. Poochy That's the priority list, IMO. And really, can you think of another character besides Poochy who would be a good Yoshi rep that's not Kamek or the Baby Bros, who could be counted as a Mario rep? |

I can't really say that ANY character can function as a full fighter in Smash Bros (unless you mugen it, of course). Some characters are just TOO minor in terms of importance and don't really have the amount of abilities required to make up a full moveset. Poochy faces the same problem.
I literally just wrote an entire moveset so I don't understand what the problem is. I just proved Poochy can have a moveset.
Once you think about it, is Poochy really as unimportant as everyone makes him out to be? He's been in every Island game but one. And he has a bigger role in the latest game. I mean, let's look;
1. Kamek 2. Baby Bros 3. Poochy
That's the priority list, IMO. And really, can you think of another character besides Poochy who would be a good Yoshi rep that's not Kamek or the Baby Bros, who could be counted as a Mario rep? I wouldn't call it an "entire" moveset. You still have quite a few normal moves to cover. Shy Guy would make a better candidate than Poochy IMO. But the fact still stands: Kamek would top them all for second spot. As for Kamek AND Poochy, yeah I think that would be pushing it. I'd rather see another series get represented. |

I'd rather see another series get represented. Shy Guy is from Mario and appears in more Mario games then Yoshi games, I'd say he's a Mario rep. I'll be adding normal moves, but I feel the ones I listed are the most important. The series that need reps are; Yoshi DK F-Zero Fire Emblem That's really it right now. Would it really be pushing it to add 2 Yoshi reps? I mean, we don't have to add Poochy with Kamek, we can add Poochy as like, DLC. Of course Kamek should get in before Poochy, but if one counts the Baby Bros as Mario reps, Kamek and Poochy are the most important Yoshi characters that could be in. |
