I'm in no way involved with this project, but I feel like it has some great potential. FSMR, if you hadn't guessed, stands for First Super Metroid Remake. Same idea as AM2R, remake Super Metroid with Zero Mission/AM2R-esque visuals and gameplay.
I know most people feel Super is already the best Metroid, but I also know I'm not alone in feeling like its gameplay is frustratingly slow, clunky, and awkward compared to the later games. As for the graphics, while they've aged well, they would benefit from the update FSMR would provide.
I don't know if there are plans to expand on anything like AM2R did. The main dev is likely going to release more information when the project is more together. Right now, he mainly needs pixel artists and musicians.
Here's a link to his post on it on r/Metroid: https://www.reddit.com/r/Metroid/comments/54ic2c/fsmr_first_super_metroid_remake_has_been_rebooted/
Here's his DeviantArt, with mock-ups from several years ago (not reflective of what it'll eventually look like): http://kenji-imatake.deviantart.com/art/FSMR-new-title-211936609
EDIT: FSMR now has a Blog Site! There's only a little there now, but take a look, and if you're interested and have the skills they need, maybe consider helping them out. I really want to see this grow into something comparable to AM2R, so it'd be cool of you all to at least check it out.
