PostSubject: Megaman Balance Issues   Sat Apr 20, 2013 2:24 pm

After testing each character, my friend and I have discovered quite a few issues with Megaman.

1. Tornado Hold... this move is just broken. It has instant startup with no cool down. This coupled with wide radius and superior priority to all attacks means that Megaman could infinitely wall any character on certain stages.

2. Invincibility frames galore for quite a few moves. This coupled with the aforementioned Tornado Hold allows a Megaman player to mindlessly attack without fear of punishment.

Will either of these issues be addressed in v0.9?

Considering the fact that 0.9 utilizes a new engine, I'm fairly sure balancing will be conducted anew, not to mention that a megaman overhaul in scheduled in the future.

Tornado Hold can't just be spammed like you describe. Yes, it is his best move camping move besides the mega buster, but it's not impossible to get through. Transcendent projectiles (like boomerang moves) will definitely go through it, and it only travels a short distance away from Megaman. It is also possible to go over it, and the opponent can slip in between uses as well. And once you get in Megaman's face he has very few options to make you back off. So no, it is not broken at all. Megaman is 16th on the tier list for a reason: despite being a camper, he's not the best at it. Several other characters are way better at it, namely Samus, Krystal, and Falco. Not to mention several characters above and near his position can all get past his camping strategies or render it useless.

Megaman also does not get invincibility on any move at all. You may be confusing invincibility for high priority if you tried hurting him while he was performing a specific move, as in your attack got beaten by his and so he didn't get hurt while you did.

If anyone had anything "broken" it'd be ness's recovery(infintie up b) but even that has it downside. You may want to play against a MM player to find ways around TH and punish him.

I'm speaking about how it is impossible to get around given the stage, not overall.

The only stages it should be an issue on are stages that are banned in tournaments anyway or Final Destination, maybe Rice Beach as well. And that is rightfully so; campers should have an advantage if the stage is larger because their entire playstyle revolves around making the opponent chase them while they tack on damage with projectiles.

Not so much large stages. The biggest advantage I've ever seen was on Excitebite. Look at the structure of the stage and you will see why.

Well basically the point is that characters are balanced for competitive play. On legal stages they are well balanced, on banned stages it doesn't really matter. Banned stages are banned because they give huge advantages to certain types of characters. This happens in the console games, too. In other words, there is no way to balance characters for play on banned stages because banned stages are broken by nature.

If Megaman is posing an issue to you, play on different stages that are a bit smaller or have many platforms to help alleviate his advantage over what character you play. Also, learn how to play as Samus and out-camp Megaman, all of your problems will be solved. Samus actually has an easy learning curve, start off by doing short jumps and hitting side B right after to fire missiles in midair. Do that over and over again, and even Megaman will be annoyed with you. Also stay far away from the foe.

EDIT: Here are some of the characters that have an advantage against Megaman, if you main any of these characters then practice fighting Megaman with them and you'll get better in no time: Falco, Fox, Samus, Meta Knight, probably Krystal as well. Falco has he biggest advantage as far as we know since he has a reflector with broken range and his blaster to camp better than Megaman.
