DEBUT: Ape Escape (1999)Series Emblem: I had decided to make this thread as I am a huge fan of the
Ape Escape series, and I've seen discussion threads regarding other potential 1st-Party Sony characters. It is a PlayStation-exclusive franchise with a strong enough history, with at least 14 games (including spin-offs), two anime series, a cartoon series from Frederator Studios, and a manga from CoroCoro Comics. Just like
Super Smash Bros., it is another notable family-friendly franchise that had done crossovers with the M-rated
Metal Gear Solid series.
Ape Escape is notable for being the first PlayStation game that required the use of the DualShock analog controller, and was well recieved when it came out. It eventually spawned two sequels, a PSP remake, and several spin-off titles.
Spike (also known as Kakeru) is the protagonist of the original
Ape Escape video game. He is an energetic 4th-grader with a variety of gadgets that has helped him on his missions. Spike has made several appearances in later installments of the series, most of the time as a playable character.
I've always felt that the characters of
Ape Escape would fit in well with Smash, and I've been wanting to create a moveset for Spike. The moveset is a mix between his original appearance,
Pumped & Primed, and the Japan-only
Million Monkeys.
Specials:Neutral Special: Slingback Shooter - While holding, you are capable of aiming up and down (similar to Crash's Wumpa Bazooka). You can also move Spike from left to right while you aim, just like in
Pumped & Primed.
Side Special: Dash Hoop - Hold to charge distance and power. The player is capable of turning around when the dash is in effect.
Up Special: Sky Flyer - Functions the same way as it does in the source games. It will also be able to damage to any opponent that is above Spike while using this move. Press down to cancel the glide.
Down Special: RC Car - Spike drops an RC Car on the ground and is capable of moving it from left to right, hitting opponents along the way. Press Down + B again to detonate the car to cause extra damage, but this can also hurts the user if he is too close to it. If Spike gets hit while controlling the RC Car, it will automatically explode.
Ground Attacks:Neutral: Does a combo with his Dual Stun Clubs (from
Million Monkeys).
Side Tilt: Swings his Stun Club down.
Dash Attack: Jabs opponents with the Stun Club (like in
Pumped & Primed and
Million Monkeys).
Up Tilt: Swings his Stub Club above himself (like in
Pumped & Primed).
Down Tilt: Crouches down in a crawling position and sweeps his Stun Club along the ground.
Smash Attacks:Side Smash: Uses the Magic Punch.
Up Smash: Performs a Hurricane Crush, which is a fast spin attack using the Stun Club lifted upwards that launches opponents into the air. Originally a special move in
Pumped & Primed.
Down Smash: Sweeps his Stun Blade (from
Million Monkeys) along the ground.
Aerial Attacks:Neutral: Does a spin with his Stun Club.
Forward Air: Swings his Stun Club down (same as the ground version but in the air).
Back Air: Does a back flip swing with his Stun Club.
Up Aerial: Does a back flip swing with his Dual Stun Clubs.
Down Aerial: Sticks his Stun Club straight down (works very similar to Toon Link's Down Aerial).
Grabs:Uses his Time Net. Works very similar to Villager's net, but has a transportation effect whenever the opponent is thrown.
Entrance: Gets transported onto the stage the same way he does in the mainline
Ape Escape games.
Taunt:Looks slightly upward and slashes his Stun Club around. Based on his
#1 Stunna' intro from
PlayStation All-Stars.
Win:Does the same victory animation he does in the original
Ape Escape.
Fanfare:The stage clear theme from the original
Ape Escape game.
Final Smash:Thunder Crack - One of his special moves from
Pumped & Primed. Spike slams his Stun Club onto the ground, causing a large blue shockwave to go across the stage and damages opponents.
Other Info:Spike is capable of crawling when crouched.
