First appearance: Blaster Master (NES)
Latest appearance: Blaster Master: Overdrive (Wii)
Even though this character (or should I call it a vehicle?) isn't as known as, say, Mario or Link, the Blaster Master franchise has had a decent history on Nintendo as far as I can tell, and it needs a little love!
Sophia's main weapon is it's tank-like blaster protruding from it's front, which it uses for most of it's neutral attacks, though Sophia has a few extra weapons for it's specials.
Type: DefensiveSophia, even with so many different weapons and possibilities for attacking, is mostly a defensive character. It's metal plating and marvelous recovery options make it one of the hardest characters to KO in the entire Smash series!
Major FeaturesSophia mostly has projectile attacks, similar to Olimar, so it'll have a hard time with characters that have reflect moves, like Fox or Mario.
Sophia has the slowest dash out of the roster, but it has the fastest walking speed.
Sophia also has a weak double jump, but it's numerous recovery options make up for it.
Sophia has a unique wall jump, in which it uses it's Sticky Wheels mode to drive up a wall for a few seconds before falling off the wall.
Neutral AttacksNeutral A: A small Level 1 blast. Does decent damage and knockback.
Jab: Multiple small shots. Damage and knockback decrease each shot.
Side-Tilt: Sophia's "body" spins around, knocking fighters back in the process.
Up-Tilt: Sophia's "body" jerks upwards, knocking fighters upwards. Great for juggling opponents. Can knock fighters the opposite of where Sophia's facing if hit at a certain angle.
Down-Tilt: Shoots a small shot downwards towards the ground. Does less damage than Neutral A, but can be used to keep fighters away from you.
Smash AttacksForward Smash: Similar to Mega Man's forward smash where you charge up a huge shot. Sophia's forward smash is it's "Level 2" shot upgrade when not charged all the way, but it turns into the rainbow colored "Level 3" shot when fully charged.
Down Smash: Sophia's "body" does a 360 degree spin, shooting a laser towards the ground (something Sophia couldn't do in the games) as it spins.
Up Smash: Sophia's "body" tilts itself upwards and shoots. Level 2 shot if uncharged, Level 3 if fully charged.
SpecialsNeutral Special: Shoots a missile. The type of missile shot depends on how long you charge your down special. There are 3 types of Missiles: Regular, Homing, and Triple. Regular does decent damage and knockback while going straightforward, Homing does less damage, but homes in on players, and Triple shoots 3 missiles at once in a spread shot, all deal less damage than Homing or Regular.
Side Special: The back wheels turn into rockets, propelling Sophia forward. Mostly a defensive and recovery-based option, but it does do contact damage.
Down Special: Sophia stops, and a box containing a missile appears. Charging this attack gives you different missiles. 1 second of charge gives you Regular, 3 seconds gives you Homing, and 5 seconds gives you Triple.
Up Special: Sophia uses it's Hover Mode. Pressing Up slowly makes you rise up into the air. You can use your Neutral Special in this state as well.
