Centipede is one of the most well known arcade games of all time, maybe not on the same level as Pac-Man or Donkey Kong, but as well known as Q*Bert and Asteroids. The game has a few sequels and a ton of ports. The game has you playing as a space ship shooting a giant centipede until all of it's segments are gone.
I'll list off the elements of the stage.
1. The main platform at the bottom of the stage.
2. The randomly placed mushrooms placed on a grid (like in the game). You can break the mushrooms, although doing so has no real purpose besides possibly changing where the Centipede will go.
3. The Centipede itself. When the match begins, he'll spawn at the top of the screen. He turns and goes down a bit whenever he reaches something (a wall or mushroom). He can do damage to players, but the players can damage it too. Just like in the game, whenever you break one of its segments (besides ends) it'll break into more than one Centipede. It'll also spawn a mushroom in the place of the destroyed segment. If the Centipede is defeated the color of the mushrooms and enemies change and the mushrooms rearrange.
