"I believe I have a solution to this so-called Crusade."
"It seems this is a competition of brute strength. But a true gentleman can defeat his opponent with his wit!"
Professor Layton is a series of 6 (7 if you count the Phoenix Wright crossover) titles on DS/3DS exclusively. Since his games were primarily puzzle-based, so too while his playstyle. Rather than attempt to rushdown and combo the opposition, he will instead tactfully strike when his opponent is most vulnerable. His fencing instruction comes in handy, so he'll weild a rapier. He has quite a few tricks up his sleeve as well.
In addition, Luke follows Layton around. He doesn't do much, but he's always there alongside the professor!
Here is his moveset. In the words of the professor, "Every move has a purpose."
A Combo: Fencing Layton will make a series of quick stabs with his rapier.
Side Tilt: Parry Layton swings his sword to the side while upright. It has very little range, damage, and knockback, but comes out quick and outprioritizes every other attack in the game as well as negating projectiles.
Up Tilt: Upward Stab Layton stabs his sword upward at a slight angle in front of him. Similar to Marth's up smash, and it does extra damage to airborne foes.
Down Tilt: Downward Swipe Layton swings his sword low to the ground. Does very little damage but trips opponents.
Dash Attack: Tumble Layton tumbles forward before stabbing behind him. The stab won't come out unless you press the attack button a second time, giving him options. The tumble has a few invincibility frames and the stab has shield breaker properties, effectively countering people's natural instinct to shield a dash attack done at them.
Forward Smash: Altava Kick Emmy must have taught Layton a few tricks before leaving. Layton delivers a fierce but quick kick in front of him. It is quite strong, but the knockback doesn't scale well with %, leaving it not very good as a KO move.
Down Smash: Archeological Dig Layton digs a hole. It is essentially a combination of a pitfall item and Snake's down smash from Brawl - that is, he is setting a trap that buries opponents when they touch it. The duration lasts longer the more charge is used.
Up Smash: Masks of Miracles Layton takes the 2 masks and puts them together, causing pillars to erupt from the ground on either side of him. This serves as both a makeshift normal down smash and upward knockback, giving him some sort of vertical kill move.
Neutral Aerial: I'm Helping, Professor! Luke flails his arms around attempting to knock away opponents. It feels awkward since Luke and Layton aren't together, but it gets opponents away if it connects.
Forward Aerial: Rapier Swing Layton swings his rapier in front of him. It has just enough knockback to keep opponents away, but otherwise isn't that great. Does more damage at the tip.
Up Aerial: Upward Swipe Layton swings his rapier above him. It has a set knockback so he can't use it as a kill move unless him and his opponent are close to the stage boundaries, and does more damage at the tip.
Backward Aerial: Altava Roundhouse Another one of Emmy's kicks, Layton sweeps his leg behind him. It is decently strong and can have a wide variety of applications. This is probably the most normal move he possesses.
Down Aerial: Downward Thrust Layton does a quick stab downward at a slight angle forward. What it lacks in range it more than makes up for in sheer kill power - this is the meteor everyone wish they had. However, getting the opponent off the edge so he can make use of this move is a puzzle in itself.
Grab: Luke Triton, at your service! Luke dashes forward and attempts to grab on to an opponent. If he misses, he'll walk away sadly. But if he connects, he'll latch on while Layton dashes over to where they are. Layton can act quicker out of a throw than most characters since he's not the one doing the throwing himself.
Pummel: Fists of Fury Luke rapidly pounds his fists onto his captive foe. Nothing special, though comical (like Luigi's dash attack).
Forward Throw: Push! Luke pushes the opponent away. It doesn't do much, but it does place the opponent at the right distance for his rapier attacks.
Up Throw: Heave-ho! Luke attempts to lift the opponent upward. It doesn't go very far, but Layton can follow it up with a quick up tilt to get the enemy away.
Backward Throw: Swing Around Luke swings the opponent around, tossing them behind Layton. Definitely his strongest throw, but still leaves something to be desired.
Down Throw: Backflip Kick Luke kicks off the opponent, leaving them helpless on the ground while he backflips to Layton.
Neutral Special: Puzzle A red exclamation appears above Layton and he exlaims "This reminds me of a puzzle!". During this time frame, you can input a direction. Based on what direction is pressed, one of a few different effects happens: No Direction - A letter appears above Layton's % bar. It will either be A, B, X/Y, or R/L. Every time an action is performed using that button, a hint coin sound plays and Layton heals 1%. Up - A flask appears in midair above Layton's head and remains there for the duration, causing damage and knockback to anyone who touches it. If the special button is tapped a second time and Layton is close enough to the first one, a second flask will appear and a line will connect the two, blocking the path. Side - A banana peel appears in front of Layton. It can't be picked up like Diddy's, but still causes the same slipping effect. It doesn't have much of an effect if it lands on anyone though... Down - A tall block appears on both sides of Layton. The platforms are solid and unaffected by gravity. You can push against the blocks to move them. Puzzles will dissapear after ~10 seconds. Only one puzzle can be in effect at a time.
Side Special: Diabolical Box Layton takes out the Diobolical Box, aims it forward, and opens it briefly. The box expels some gas, stunning any player who gets within range.
Up Special: Umbrella Propeller Layton takes out an umbrella with a propeller and uses it to fly upward. He can cancel it at an time and not be put in freefall.
Down Special: Coin Cannon Layton takes out a makeshift cannon made from casino parts and shoots out a barrage of coins. He can slowly move while firing, but he can't aim and the weapon isn't very powerful unless shot in close-range (while it has a lot of start-up lag).
Final Smash: The Azran Legacy Layton brings out 5 eggs, which form a key, rising into the air. Suddenly, a bunch of robots appear and start dive-bombing everyone (ala Pit's Brawl Final Smash).
Intro: The Laytonmobile drives by, dropping off Layton and Luke. Emmy drives off with it.
Up Taunt: Layton tips his hat.
Side Taunt: Layton takes out the spectre's flute and plays a few notes on it.
Down Taunt: Layton looks at the ground with a magnifying glass and finds a hint coin, pocketing it.
Victory: "I think I've got it!" Layton thinks for a moment, then points at the camera. Luke is celebrating behind him. "You did it, professor!"
Loss: Layton tips his hat then proceeds to clap. A true gentleman would acknowledge when he is bested.
Unfortunately, Flora never appears in this moveset and his iconic pointing pose only appears in his victory animation. He'll leave all the pointing to Phoenix.

He basicly sounds like a Phoenix Wright sort of character - not that I'm complaining. Interesting.

In a way, he is. I think he's different enough to warrant an inclusion.
I finished the moveset in the OP.

I support Professor Layton, such presentation can't go unnoticed, besides, if he's not that iconic, his games are defenetively successful

Professor Layton deserves a place here, with Phoenix being here and all. It makes sense, and his games shouldn't go without mention.

Never played one of his games yet but I believe he deserves a place in crusade.

Updated the moveset slightly, so his forward and up aerials use a lead pipe instead of his rapier. Gives him a bit more variety rather than relying on the sword.
Any more support or ideas for the moveset?

I feel the inclusion of the Pipe isn't necessary if you're going to have him use a fencing sword the rest of the time more or less.

As I've already told you, I put the rapier back and added in your up special. Also changed up the down smash and nair.
Will probably alter the neutral special as soon as I get some better ideas for it... but otherwise yeah, this moveset is basically done.

lol Roy was that meant to come off a little annoyed / hostile? The way you phrased it was a bit weird.
But yeah! Pretty much done, just need to rework NSpec and add a Final Smash and this moveset is golden.

Didn't mean for it to sound like that... sorry if I offended?
Is something wrong with the final smash? ... besides the fact that it's a spoiler for Azran Legacy.

Dude, I love the little Luke mechanic.
Also, I counted, and you have..11 supporters, or 12 if you include yourself.
CONGRATS. IIRC, Layton is now one of the top 5 most wanted characters according to the statistics. I think we'll be seeing our favorite professor (and sidekick) soon.

@Lego Shaq I'd like to remind you that just because Layton has a high spot in "most wanted characters" DOESN'T mean he will included in the game. That's for the developers to decide.

And I did not once say that this confirms him?
I'll be surprised if he isn't in, even without fan input.

I'm pretty sure the OP is always counted. But let's not stop there, the more support the better!
Though yeah, I do somewhat expect him. He's one of the few third parties who is really seen as a Nintendo character (Shantae being another).

Nono, I was just a bit confused at the response. I just took it the wrong way.
Also I didn't even notice the Final Smash!

Ah, ok.
Happen to have any ideas for the neutral special? I have 2 forms of it, but need 2 more... I was thinking about one of those slippery puzzles for the side (either ice or banana?), but I'm not sure how to make it work right... and not sure if that's even good for it...

Added support list to all of my topics. I counted AEM here since he mentioned the moveset being 'golden' and since he seems like a supporter when we've discussed him in xat. Not sure if I should have or not...
Anyways, nothing has changed with the mvoeset yet. Still thinking on that neutral special.
(Surprisingly, Beat has 5 supporters and isn't listed in the Stat topic... huh.)
