i feel the modern design fits more in terms of fighting. Why does a character need a "fighting" design? Pac-Man is just wearing boots and gloves in this game as always. Why should Frogger be different? i am not saying it needs to be a fighting design but Frogger original design just look like any random frog that you see in cartoons, the modern design at least have improved him and make him look different from other random frogs designs. |

why can't Frogger look like a generic frog well he only has 1 design so i find this okay, i am not saying Frogger cant look like a genertic frog but i am saying that Konami improved his design and he looks better to me in my opinion. |

| 2020 Update for what i would tweak with the moveset: - General Properties:
- Frogger is a small character (Pichu/Olimar sized) that is light (Kirby/Puff weight?) and falls decently fast akin to it's original game. - Jump heights are very extreme, but don't get tricked. Initial jump is High for his size (More akin to Mario height than Falco). Second Jump is much shorter (Akin to Peach) and floatier (Gravity speeds up) - His walk and Run animations might be a little awkward, as they will have Froggy "jump" close to the ground (think Mario's Frog Suit in SMB3). This means it's better to fox trot when moving as Froggy than it is to Dash dance Some Mobility pointers Jumps: Grounded + 1 Air Jump Yes: Wall Jump, Tether Z-Air (maybe) No: Float, Crawl, DJC, Wall Cling, Wall Climb
- Relevant points to consider when designing frogger:
- Frogger's limbs are all short (Specially his arms), so it's likely he will need to have a lot more tongue attacks - Having tongue attacks means his range will improve dramatically, but this might put him in a similar spot to Belmont (Ultimate) and Earthworm Jim (Requested for Crusade in another thread), so his tongue attacks need to work differently from theirs from a balance stance. - Greninja and the Battletoads (Requested for Crusade in another thread) also exist, the former using a few tongue attacks and moves that might fit frogger, while the Battletoads are brawlers.
- With these considerations:
- i believe that Frogger should not have a complex gimmick. - He doesn't need to be a Zoner either (like Duck Hunt), but keeping him a brawler might be a little too boring and risky given his size. - Thus a first impression tells me he should do a little bit of both, with some sort of twist that best represents the Character. Sliss'Tongue idea for some Command grabs would make sense, but i would add some "Set up" that allows frogger to better interact with his surroundings or with items. It just needs to be kept simple
- Misc.:
- Entrance: Frogger slides into stage on top of a log. The log goes into the forefront like Super Mario Bros. 2 as Frogger jumps off into the stage - Idle: Sits like a frog. His crouch is just him covering his head like Donkey Kong. Very minor hurtbox shift (Like Meta Knight) - Win: Dances like in Frogger 2, complete with baby frogs around him who also celebrate his win. - Lose: Sits like a frog at a 3/4 angle, allowing his arms to clap beside him with stretchy arms for silhouette. - Hurt: Wall-Squeeze (Swampy's Revenge). I believe this is more fitting as a hurt animation rather than a dash attack. - Air Jump: flips forward like in Frogger 2. - Falling Animation: Frogger extends limbs, making him easier to hit horizontally, but pancaking him vertically - Gimmick?: Using any of frogger's tongue attacks could "auto-eat" healing items like Bowser Jr.'s Down Tilt in Ultimate.
- Normals:
- Jab: Frog Fu (The Great Quest). Punch > Punch > "ballerina" kick - Side Tilt: Pikachu's Side Tilt. Stands in tiny hands and kicks sideways. - Side Smash: Tongue-whip (Advance: The Great Quest). Extends his tongue like a swiping whip forward. - Up Tilt: Tongue-whip (Advance: The Great Quest). Modified to hit like an uppercut arc above him instead of straight up. - Up Smash: Cartwheel kick (Swampy's Revenge). It's like Ultimate Ridley's, but his facing sideways while kicking. - Down Tilt: Extends his legs to reach further ahead with a headbutt, then pulls back - Down Smash: Tongue-whip (Advance: The Great Quest). While crouching, He prepares and swipes the enemy feet with a tongue attack that starts from behind Frogger. It launches foes in the opposite direction they are hit like Melee Samus.
- Misc. Attacks:
- Dash Attack: Stops and prepares a jumping headbutt forward. Decently strong despite the start up. - Get up Attack: Frogger lies on his back when knocked down. He then extends his tongue one side before swinging it at the other as he gets up. - Ledge Attack: Climbs up with one leg up like a regular climb, then swings his tongue forward with decent reach.
- Aerial Attacks:
- Neutral Air: Croaks, inflating his throat(?) and expanding it to hit very close to himself. Works like Wario's with 2-hits not really meant to connect. - Forward Air: Tongue-whip (Advance: The Great Quest). Faster Aerial version of Side Smash - Back Air: Bowser Back Air by flexing and stomping behind him. With his size it means it works more like a Mario/Doc Back Air. - Up Air: Headbutts above him in an arc from behind. It's so weak knockback-wise that it's great for combos. - Down Air: Makes a jump-preparation pose from "The Great Quest". If Successfully touches a foe, he stomp-jumps off of them.
- Grab+Throws:
- Grab/Pummel: Reaches with his tiny hand while comically standing up sideways to help with his range. For Pummel, he headbutts sideways like pac-man. - Forward Throw: Jumps on the foe and dropkicks them off. Ironically, like Cloud in Sm4sh. - Back Throw: Pulls and puts the foe behind him before kicking their butts off. (The Great Quest) - Up Throw: Pulls the foe as he lays on his back, then uses his feet to kick them upward. Imagine the Bicycle kick exercise or Ryu's Back throw but using both legs. - Down Throw: Puts the foe below and ground pounds them (Frogger: Ancient Shadow/Helmet Madness)
- Specials:
- Neutral Special: Croaks inflating his throat(?) and then bites forward, command grabbing foes and spitting them out (not unlike Wario-bite). He can also eat and move around with small items in his mouth ("Cargo state" on Items). Can then spit the items back at any point. Might be able to eat and spit projectiles maybe? One at a time I guess, do discuss. - Side Special: Extends his tongue out. Hit-grab like Isabelle fishing Rod instead of command grab. Can be angled diagonally up, diagonally down (Air only) or straight forward. When successful, Frogger tethers to the foe and automatically Forward Throws them. Can Tether to the Stage like a Z-Air. It ignores items on Frogger's path. - Up Special: A flying insect will appear flying around controlled by the player while Frogger is distracted by it. By activating the 2nd part somehow, Frogger will extend his tongue towards the insect, eating it in the process and swinging himself upwards feet first. - Down Special: Pulls out a Beehive (Frogger: He's Back!) and kicks it, startling it's residents. Bees come out the moment the Beehive hits something (foe or floor/wall). The Bees move in a "Stop. Wait. Fly off" pattern that homes in on the closest player which includes Frogger. The bees sting-stun like in Ultimate.
- Final Smash:
Frogger shoots multiple tiny spit projectiles forward (The Great Quest). If successful, he jumps in at dazed opponents and uses his tongue to whip-throw them behind him off-screen, where the camera shifts to a black screen with the classic 8-bit streets. The foe has been turned into their stock icons and we see the same Arcade top-view cars hit and toss around the enemies like pinballs before they are all tossed into the river and subsequently launched off by crocodile bites
