I'd like to take a moment to talk about Gooey.
First off, what is Gooey? Most people know him as Player 2 in Kirby's Dream Land 3, which is how he's represented in his moveset (using copy abilities and KDL3 partners). I know this moveset was literally taken off of a sprite sheet found on some site, however...
Gooey is also made up of Dark Matter, the series' most common antagonist and makes up the darkest part of the Kirby universe (including blood!). This is currently only represented in his final smash, which doesn't see play in most competitive settings. So, I suggest we change up his (rather lackluster) specials to incorporate that.
But before we get into that, what is his playstyle? He's essentially another Kirby, so let's look to the Dark Matter side of things. Dark Matter has been known to possess creatures to do their bidding, hoping to eventually corrupt the planet and envelope it in darkness. As opponents take damage, he should be regaining health, feeding off of their corruption. This is actually represented in how a player joins the game in KDL3 - they take a bit of Kirby's health. This would really only take place in his specials - all of his normal moves are the Kirby abilities we've grown to enjoy.
Now, onto the changes I'd like to see:
Dsmash > Dtilt, Dspecial > Dsmash His current dtilt is so small and doesn't do much. Let's bring the spike ability to it, and bring the spark to his smash. That should give him some more range to actually hit things with.
Side special > Fsmash The cutter is a nice common Kirby ability, but boomerang specials are so common... it can still work as a smash attack, though, and it removes one of the umbrella attacks (he still has others).
Usmash > Utilt, Something? > Usmash His current usmash is pretty bad with so little range. We can fit it into utilt, though... but that leaves usmash open for another ability to fit in. Any suggestions? Maybe fire breath?
Uair - He pokes up an umbrella. Why can't he use it to float down? I know that's sort of Peach's thing, but it still seems odd that he wouldn't use it for its intended purpose.
Neutral Special: Possess Gooey's signature ability is to swallow enemies, ala Kirby, except by grabbing with his tongue. Now, I have an interesting proposal for this: When he grabs someone, he can either spit them out by pressing A (which does damage and heals Gooey), or press B again to possess them. While possessed, you take control of the enemy while they are covered in a dark, purple aura. You can use them to attack other enemies, run into hazards, or simply run off the edge. This doesn't last long, though - the bigger the % gap between players, the longer it lasts. Unfortunately, you can't end the possession voluntarily, but good players will know about when it ends so they can take advantage of the ending lag on the opponent (Gooey recovers quicker) to get in an extra hit.
Side Special: Homing Orb Gooey turns into Dark Matter, with the orange orbs around him. Each tap of the special button lets loose one of these orbs, which travels slowly and homes in on enemies similarly to Samus' missiles. They have low priority and don't do much damage, though, so it's more for field control than anything else. Each one that manages to connect heals Gooey for a small amount.
Up Special: 02 A halo appears above Gooey's head and he grows wings, which allow him to fly. During flight, you can press the special button to cause an explosion a set distance away, also healing Gooey for a small amount. The flight time is actually quite a long time, but dealing enough damage destroys the wings, causing him to fall helplessly.
Down Special: Dark Bolt Gooey's face dissapears and a large eye replaces it, as Gooey charges for a brief moment before firing a dark lightning bolt, which has unlimited range and is quite powerful. It can be angled slightly up or down during the charge time and, like his other specials, heals Gooey for a small amount.
Final Smash: 0 Gooey transforms into 0, a large white blob with a red eye, allowing flight and 2 special attacks. Pressing B will cause a Dark Matter to appear and fly forward that can be directed slightly, and pressing A will cause a shot of blood (!) to come out of his eye straight ahead.
Overall, Gooey wants to play some kind of keepaway with his good ranged options including his disjointed normals and powerful specials. Once he's gotten the opponent high enough, he can possess and set up a kill. These advantages are offset by his lightweight and easily-gimped recovery, so he's a bit of a semi-glass cannon in that he can heal himself if he gets the chance.

Yeah...
No thanks. Gooey is dark matter, but he doesn't use dark matter abilities. I know you're saying that he should, but he really shouldn't. It's like you want Gooey to not be Gooey, but Dark Matter instead.
No support.

That's basically what I want... Gooey is a boring Kirby alternative that was just thrown in without thinking because he had an available sprite sheet. If we're going to keep him, we should make him feel unique, and I can't think of a better way to do it (any suggestions?).
Besides, he already does use Dark Matter in his final smash. I don't see why he can't use it in his special moves.

Oh, I thought Gooey was from the Dragon Warrior series. The game with the same art style as DBZ and Chrono Trigger.
Here's this to prove my point: http://www.ign.com/blogs/axtlar2/2011/10/24/character-look-alikes/

He uses Dark Matter in his Final Smash because it was he uses to fight Dark Matter & 0. If you want to improve on Gooey, you need to keep it Gooey. To be honest I'm fine with his moveset right now, I just wish that his side special was better.

I personally like the "Gooey acts more like Dark Matter" bit. It would create a story like Luigi's Final Smash in Brawl. Neglected by his friend Kirby for years, Gooey embraced his Dark Matter heritage to get revenge.
If not a replacement, how about as an Alternate?

I don't see how making Gooey less like Gooey is going to improve Gooey.

If the concept is to have Dark Matter represented, it's better to just have the actual Dark Matter replacing Gooey rather than turn Gooey uncharacteristically into some hybrid of himself, Dark Matter, and Zero all for the sake of having Dark Matter represented.
That "Dark Matter" form of his? It's just his flying form.

To be honest, I just see Gooey as a bug homage to Kirby's Dream Land 3, with most of his moves based on abilities from said game. Giving him Dark Matter abilities is just making him Dark Matter, it's like making Wario into Mario.

New Side B: Umbrella Block: Gooey throws his umbrella forward, it spinning in his non-existent hands. As long as you hold the button, Gooey keeps the umbrella out and nullify projectiles. However this leaves him open at the back.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but I didn't know where to post this aside from this topic. Some suggestions for Gooey's costumes:
1- Standard. Blue Team. 2- Based on Computer Virus' Slime from Kirby Super Star. Green Team. 3- Based on Sir Slippy from Kirby's Adventure and in Pac-man. Yellow Team. 4- Based on Chuchu. 5- Based on Rocky. 6- Based on Drop from Kirby 64. 7- Based on the GB Colors of female Gooey from Kirby's Dream Land 2. 8- Based on Zero's Eye from Dream Land 3. Red Team. 9- Based on Dark Matter from Dream Land 3. Black Team. 10- Based on Zero from Dream Land 3.

Can we have this play when Gooey is KO'd? Or maybe when he's lost all stocks?

I do like how OmegaKyogre's sprites were edited so Gooey fit in more, but I really prefer the Previous Down air and taunt. I feel like they were nice references to Dreamland 3, and generally better. Also A lot of Gooey's spike sprites don't look as spiky anymore, and is fall sprite looks really weird. Maybe he could be updated to have some of the moves from Star Allies

I wish Gooey was a lot closer to the 9.0 version, I still don't get why he had to be nerfed. He would have really cool combo potential if his specials didn't have so much endlag. You could do a lot of sweet 50/50s with the boomerang if the endlag wasn't so bad. Just throw one out and then raw succ (neutral b for the uncultured) if they try to shield the boomerang, go for spark or an aerial if they try to jump away or go for a smash attack if they try to roll out of it. Would require a lot of skill in reading the opponent, spacing your boomerang as well as your read to cover the most amount of options possible, and keep track of which boomerang you have and how to change up your actions for each one. IMO this would require a good amount of skill to do consistently and if properly balanced (which I think it would be given no other changes to gooey cept the dsmash fix), would not be too powerful. A good player would be able to win a lot with this and punish less skilled players while a less skilled player would really struggle utilizing the character, which IMO is what a good character is all about.
Obviously down smash needs to be nerfed, but I think that would be an incredibly fair trade. Up smash should probably be extended upwards and given a slight buff just so it has some reason to ever be used over down smash (even if down smash was "fixed" I don't think up smash would ever be worth using in its current state). I also wish bair was a bit stronger but the endlag on specials is the main buff he needs IMO.

He was doubted based on his importance up until he was revealed in Kirby Star Allies, I dont think anyone could have ever predicted that.
Eitherway it's not like there was an actual push to cut him, as the resprite was already done by then. Talks about cuts where mostly to troll you given your attitude.
