| Does anyone have strategies developed for this guy, because judging by the boards; he seems completely neglected. |

| From what I've gathered his nair is pretty spammable with sorthopping, he has an air smash attack, and side B is a powerful kill move that can be used in junction with a wave dash to get close. I may get more with research |

| Time to go into detail about Tails.
Tails is one of my favorite characters of all time (I'd put him above Roy, so that's saying something). However, I don't like how he's represented in Crusade. He's a mechanical genius who flies, but he's weak physically. This translates to a poor ground game meant to get the opponent in the air, where he's the best in the game at air-to-air combat.
This is a list of changes I'd like to see, which overall pushes him into the role he was born to play:
Jumps - Give him multiple like other fliers. He doesn't need to float, multiple jumps is enough. He can even freefall after up special. The purpose of this is to help him chain together aerial attacks.
Tilts - In general, these should help pop opponents into the air. Down tilt can be a tail swipe that does just that. Ftilt just needs a direction adjustment. Utilt is probably ok as is.
Smashes - These are actually pretty ok. I'd change fsmash though... seems weird for a forward smash to wrap around him, hitting both sides. It shouldn't actually be used much though - up smash is to get opponents airborne, and dsmash is a get-off-me move.
Forward Air - What is this? Boxing gloves? No. What would work best here is another tail swipe, that has a bit of vertical knockback. There should be enough stun on nair and fair to chain together if you read the opponent's DI correctly.
Up Air - I don't even know the purpose of this move... it has about as much range as nair and doesn't seem to serve much purpose. Why is an upward attack on what is supposed to be the best air fighter in the game so terrible? I reccomend having his tails spin fast like a propeller (in the Genesis games, Tails could attack simply by flying into them). This could be a nice move for juggling, a way to catch opponents that get above him without having to put his body in the way. If the opponent is at a high enough %, it would even serve as a good KO move. It makes sense for the air champion to kill off the top.
Back Air - The idea behind this move is fine - strong knockback to KO off the side. Combo a bit off the edge, jump the opposite way to prepare this move. However, the animation is terrible. How about a strong kick (ala Sonic the Fighters) instead?
Down Air - I like the move animation itself, but I find it's usefulness to be severely lacking. It hits the opponent too far away to do much of anything, and he'll already have 2 moves to KO opponents with. I suggest this move have an upwards knockback component as well as reducing the knockback in general - another way to get grounded opponents airborne. In addition, this move should only hit once... currently, trying to hit a grounded opponent generally only hits once and leaves Tails vulnerable. You shouldn't be punished for connecting properly with a move...
Side Special - The hammer is a terrible choice for a special move... He's physically weak and shouldn't be using a heavy melee weapon. I suggest instead using the Chu2 bomb from Sonic Battle. This would place a tracking bomb on the field that tries to walk over to the opponents position as long as they are grounded, and if it hits, produces upward knockback. This would be a valuable tool to help him convince his opponents to get airborne. Another option could be a Napalm Bomb from Tails Adventure, a simple bomb that erupts a flame pillar sending opponents upward.
Throws - Down throw is worthless as it is, it needs some kind of change. Would be nice if up throw was a carry ala DK's forward throw, but it's not necessary.
Everything else seems ok overall... I'd just like to see these things happen so Tails isn't left behind while all of the other characters get increasingly better while forming their own niches. |
