BASS, TESTS HIS MIGHT!

Character Image:

Description: Bass is a Robot Master created by Dr. Wily to imitate Mega Man's design, along with Treble, an imitation of Rush's design. He was created based on a research conducted on Mega Man with the intention of surpassing his power. Bass is the prominent anti-hero of the original Mega Man series, and his goal is to become the most powerful robot in existence. Although Bass and Mega Man are rivals, at times they team up to take down mutual enemies of the two. Despite being created by Dr. Wily, Bass frequently rebels against his creator, usually for his own purposes.

Why this character?: Bass is a popular character from the classic Mega Man series, being playable in Mega Man and Bass, The Power Battle, The Power Fighters, Mega Man 10, among others. He is like the Shadow of the Mega Man series (Please don’t jump down my throat for that comparison), and makes sense as a second classic Mega Man rep.

Series Symbol: The Mega Man symbol

Normal Moves

Jab/Combo: Bass performs straight punch, a side kick with the opposite leg, and finishing with an overhead buster attack that causes a small explosion on contact.

Side Tilt: Bass attacks with a hook with the buster, then a buster uppercut with the other hand.

Up Tilt: Bass can perform a rising kick attack.

Down Tilt: Bass shoots a quick, short-ranged green flamethrower that can hit enemies multiple times while active.

Dash Attack: Tengu Blade: A slashing dash that ends with a projectile bounce off of walls.

Ledge Attack: Triple Blade: Bass fires three blades that move in three different directions in a short distance.

Get Up Attack: Copy Vision: Bass creates a gray holographic copy that fires in an upward arc as he does the same in the other direction as they get up. The copy disappears afterwards.

Aerials

Neutral Air: Water Sheild: Bass summons a shield of spinning water drops around him, then hurls the water drops which spiral outward in a short distance from him.

Forward Air: Magic Card: Bass shoots a card straight forward and boomerang back to him.

Back Air: Gyro Attack: Bass points his buster behind him, which has a gyro on it, spinning rapidly, causing multiple hits.

Up Air: A somersault kick, similar to Guile’s Flash Kick.

Down Air: Freeze Cracker: Bass fires a shard of ice below him that splits into six smaller shots.

Specials

Neutral Special: Bass Buster: Like Mega Man’s Mega Buster, Bass’ shoots energy shots, but at a drastically increased rate of fire and the ability to fire in 7 directions when B is held. Bass can’t move when firing.

Side Special: Spread Drill: Bass shoots out a big drill missile, which upon pressing Side-B again, will split into two smaller drills. Press Side-B once more, and the two drills can then be split again into two smaller drills each for a total of four small drills. If the first drill is not split by the user, it will slowly fall down after a while, but the other drills move straight forward. The bigger the drill, the more powerful it is.

Up Special: Treble Rescue: Bass uses the Treble Boost for a few seconds to recover. Doesn’t damage (This form will look like the Super Adapter to differentiate from the Final Smash).

Down Special: Remote Mine: Bass fires a remote mine that can be controlled by holding B, and can be detonated by the player by pressing Down-B again. The weapon is capable of sticking on enemies and walls.

Final Smash: Treble Boost: Treble merges with Bass, acting like an armor that increases his strength and gives him the ability to fly. Pressing A will fire stronger shots in three directions at the same time, while pressing B will shoot laser beams. Touching Bass causes damage.

Smash Attacks

Side Smash: Charge Shot: Bass charges up his buster to shoot a green, skull shaped blast.

Up Smash: Ice Wall: Bass creates an ice column that launches enemies upwards. The Ice Wall shatters quickly, the fragments also dealing damage. Creating an Ice Wall directly on an enemy will make the column hit the target several times before breaking, causing massive damage and launch distance. The ice column can also protect Bass against some attacks from the opposite side while it’s up.

Down Smash: Solar Blaze: Bass slams his buster to the ground, and launches firebomb walls to the left and right of him.

Grabs

Grab: Bass tries to grab the enemy with his hands.

Pummel: Bass violently knees his enemy.

Forward Throw: Treble appears and dashes at the enemy at a high speed, launching them away from Bass.

Back Throw: Gemini Laser: Bass throws the enemy behind him and shoots them with the Gemini Laser.

Up Throw: Lightning Bolt: Bass throws his enemy upwards and points to them, and a lightning bolt strikes them.

Down Throw: Chill Spike: Bass, holding the enemy with one hand, shoots with his free hand a special gel that lands on the ground, freezing when it strikes it and forms razor-sharp icicles on the spot where it landed. Bass then slams the enemy onto it, freezing them and launching them upward.

Extras

Entrance: Bass and Treble warp in, Bass chuckles to himself as Treble warps away, Bass entering fighting stance.

Win Animation: Bass releases green energy in the form of an aura that suspends him in the air, laughing as he does so.

Lose Animation: Bass, angry, is slumped down and in pain and holds one hand on his buster, which is keeping him up.

Taunt: Bass gives a thumbs down, giving a mocking smirk.

Shield: Bass, with an angry grimace, holds his arm out to block

Dodge: Normal rolls for the ground, but in the air he does something similar to an dash-jump.

Alternative Colours: Bass Yellow, Spread Drill Red, Copy Vision Grey, Lightning Bolt Purple, Remote Mine Blue, Wave Burner Green, Tengu Blade White, Solar Blaze Orange

Extra Attributes: His dash is based on his dash ability from the Mega Man games.

The moveset is good, better than I anticipated, but I still believe that Roll, Zero, Wily and Tron Bonne are better reps, and 5 characters for Mega Man may or may not be overkill.

Wouldn't Wily be too similar to Dr. Eggman, who is more iconic?

Maybe, but there's still Roll, Zero and Tron Bonne.

Support, but the redundancy of the Up Special and Final Smash should be changed. You're effectively treating the 7 and 8 Treble Boost sprites as different forms, but it's just a redesign. And yes, I'm aware Treble Rescue is a thing, but it's far too similar to Boost, unlike with Beat Rescue and Rush Coil.

Also, I recommend modifying the moveset to only contain special weapons from 10 and Bass. Pulling from Power Battles and Power Fighters will be lost on 99% of people.

While I understand the Treble Boost criticism, without using special weapons from the Power Battles, Bass would have less moves to pull from, and would just have generic moves instead.

He doesn't need to take directly after Mega Man and have all of his moves as special weapons.  Even accounting for his status as a rival to Mega Man, his identity isn't tied nearly as much to his special weapons.

Bass' most prominent attributes are his mobility, Treble Boost, and his multi-directional rapid buster.  His buster's inability to travel through walls is meant to keep him moving and take advantage of his mobility to more easily access better positioning, often at close range.

All that said, Bass might benefit from a move set that paints him as a counterpoint to Mega Man: while Mega Man has a large variety of strong moves to play at range and compliment his survivability, Bass could use his superior mobility to compliment an all-range style, sporting both melee and ranged attacks that reward good positioning.

Not a complete overhaul, obviously. Your move set is still really good. But ask yourself: are attacks like Copy Vision being used to their full potential?

I don't know, I mean MegaMan is a really well known and great series so I would say in terms of smash reps maybe 3 or 4 at max.

Now back to Bass, I think the moveset is really well done and you have my support Very Happy
