"How long must this war go on?"





X is the main protagonist of the Mega Man X series, the successor of the original Mega Man, built by Dr. Light to continue helping humanity after he passed. Dr. Cain used X to design all reploids in the future. He normally partners with Zero, another strong candidate for a playable character. Like Mega Man, his main ability is copying enemies to gain new weapons. In addition, he gains abilities from Light capsules to enhance other parts of him, incuding his buster and helmet.

Why should X be playable? He would be an alternate for Mega Man, so he doesn't take up a 'real' slot (even though he still requires all the coding effort). He represents the most significant spin-off of the Mega Man series (Megaman X) and comes with a wide variety of unique abilities. While he would be more difficult to use than Mega Man, he would be more rewarding.



As a playable character, X has at least 2 unique ideas associated with him, all originating from his neutral special.


Neutral Special: X Buster
Holding down B will start charging the buster. Unlike others of this type (Samus), X can walk around and use A attacks while charging (ala Zero in MvC). This allows him to combo into a charge shot to secure a kill. To balance this, if he gets hit, he loses his charge.
However, certain other moves of his can expend the charge! If he unleashes a smash attack while fully charged, the smash attack will change into a more powerful version. Perhaps this can be utilized in other moves as well.

Side Special: Dash Boots
X will dash forward at a high speed. If he jumps mid-dash, the momentum will be transferred for the whole jump. He can cancel mid-dash into any attack, and it won't put him in freefall in mid-air while propelling him forward (ignoring gravity, too!). This is a mobility special, allowing him to close the gap or retreat if necessary. It's not special, but it's one of the defining moves of the X games.

Up Special: Variable Dash
Almost identical to his side special, he instead dashes upwards after a short delay. Useful for mobility and recovery, but overall isn't special at all.

Down Special: Scan
A small beam comes out from X's helmet, and he can aim it. Upon contact with an enemy, the scan is complete and he gains increased damage against that enemy for a short time.

Combo: X Punch
X lets out a 2-hit combo of punches. He does something similar to this in his games once he upgrades his buster, allowing him to fire a shot from each - for purposes of Crusade, he'll just punch without the shots.

Forward Tilt: Ray Claw
Exclusive to the GBC Xtreme2 game, X equips a glowing claw and swings it forward. Similar to Mega Man's backwards aerial in Smash U, it will deal rapid hits before ejecting.

Up Tilt: Boomerang Cutter
From X1, X throws a boomerang blade upward at an angle in front of him, which then arcs around to the same angle behind him before returning to him. It covers a wide range and he can react before it returns to him, giving him a split-second to dash out of there to have a deathtrap following him.

Down Tilt: Melt Creeper
From X8, a line of flames starts moving forward along the ground. It won't travel very far, the knockback is minimal and the vertical range is almost negligible, but the damage is extremely high.

Dash Attack: Speed Burner
From X2, X dashes forward while cloaked in fire. It's difficult to interupt and has a good amount of knockback, but otherwise nothing special about it.

Forward Smash: Storm Tornado
Coming from X1, X shoves his cannon forward and creates a pink, rotating, horizontal whirlwind in front of him. The range isn't nearly as big as it is in X1, but it still retains its rapid-hit properties before havign some significant knockback.
If he expends his charge for this attack, he instead points towards the ground in front of him, causing a vertical whirlwind to extend towards the heavens. There is a massive vertical range and damage increase, but the horizontal range suffers a bit.

Up Smash: Magnet Mine
Originating in X2, X will put his hand above his head, deploying a small bomb that will hover in midair during the charge, before exploding after the charge is complete.
If he expends his charge for this attack, he'll release the bomb so it so it floats up into the air for a bit before stopping, erupting into a black hole. The suction is fairly strong strong and it lasts well after X regains control, allowing him to perform some interesting combos if an opponent gets stuck within it.

Down Smash: Triad Thunder
One of his obtainable moves in X3, X will activate 3 dynamos that spin around X, launching opponents away.
If he expends his charge for this attack, he will punch the ground instead, causing 2 electric bolts to travel out from him in both directions, covering a lot of ground while allowing him to follow up after.

Neutral Aerial: Spike Ball
From X5, X swings a green metal spiked ball around him. It has a high base knockback, but doesn't scale well with damage - it's more of a get-away move.

Forward Aerial: Magma Blade
From X6, X creates a blade of fire from his hand and swings it forward. Extremely similar to Mega Man's forward aerial from Smash U.

Up Aerial: Helmet Parts
A simple headbutt, hitting enemies above him. One of X's upgrades was the ability to break blocks by jumping into them with his helmet.

Back Aerial: Gaea Shield
From X7, X slams his arm behind him, engulfing in a blueish stone shield for a second. It is a great kill move, as well as blocking projectiles for the moment it is deployed.

Down Aerial: Ground Hunter
From X4, X launches a drone downward. If it hits a midair opponent, it will launch them upward (sorry, no meteor here!). However, if it hits the ground, it will then travel forward for a short time, acting as a mobile mine of sorts.

Grab: Dark Hold
From X5, X puts his hand forward and a black sphere will appear right next to him. If it connects, the opponent is helpless and 'grabbed'.

Aerial Grab: Strike Chain
From X2, X swings a chain forward to hit opponents. Like most tethers, he can use it to recover.

Pummel: X Punch
Pretty much identical to his jab, nothing special.

Forward Throw: Foot Parts
X simply punts away his helpless opponent. The kick is quite strong, as it has been upgraded courtesy of one of the Light Capsules.

Up Throw: Frost Tower
From X4, ice surrounds X and creates a barrier around him, which also happens to form under the opponent, launching them upward. This will momentarily protect him against other opponents in a FFA match.

Back Throw: Parasitic Bomb
From X3, X attaches a bomb to the opponent and tosses them behind him. The bomb auto-detonates after a few seconds, similar to Mega Man's Crash Bomb in Smash U.

Down Throw: Spin Wheel
From X2, X releases a spinning wheel, which grinds into the opponent before knocking them back.

Shield: Rolling Shield
While it doesn't do anything different, X's shield is aesthetically similar to the charged Rolling Shield ability from X1.

Ledge Attack: Tornado Fang
From X3, X creates a drill out of his buster and thrusts it forward as he climbs up.

Ledge Attack >100%: Fire Wave
From X1, pretty much your standard flamethrower, unleashes a torrent of flames as X climbs back onto the stage.

Getup Attack: Yammar Option
From X6, a trio of robotic dragonflies circles X as he gets up. They don't do much, but they reach a bit further than most getup attacks, helping X to get back on his feet.

Final Smash: Ultimate Armor
X dons his ultimate armor (as seen in Project X Zone). While in this state, he can perform powerful dash attacks with the A button and fire instantly charged shots with the B button.

Was he created in the exact same fashion as Mega Man? A while back, when most of the boards were still public, I think it was decided that the absolute boundary of viable alts is C. Falcon and Blood Falcon, i.e. two people who share 100% of their DNA, and are therefore functionally identical if you're a materialist. If X is more distant from Mega Man than Blood Falcon is from Captain Falcon, then no he wouldn't be a viable alt.

They technically have the same father/creator. So would that make them "blood"? They are robots after all.. xD

The best way I can put it as, is Megaman is Version 1.0 and X is 2.0. That's how I look at it.

Let's not forget the case of Luigi and Weege either. Although they "technically" are the same person, their abilities are vastly different.

Exact same, no... technology improved, and thus did the method of creating robots. Then again, we can't really use that argument since Blood Falcon was created in a lab, different than Captain Falcon (who was probably a normal baby).

As was put before, he's 2.0 while Mega Man is 1.0 (And Protoman is 0.5 or something...). Think of it like Pichu vs Pikachu, if it were a special notched-ear Pichu (who can't evolve) instead of a normal Pichu.

You have made it clear that X has some clear differences from the original Mega Man. However, this brings up another problem: Balance. X is, overall, a superior version of Mega Man, with dashing, wall jumping and chargeable weapons. Mega Man has some strong weapons, sure, but who would ever want to play as him when, with X, you're both stronger and can traverse the battlefield better! With someone like, say, Protoman (*cough* personal preference *cough*), he has a reason for having less defensive capabilities, since he's a prototype, and be slightly stronger since Wily modified him and gave him his signature shield. Sorry, but no X support from me here.

I disagree. While it's true that X is an evolved form of Megaman canonical strength can be ignored in crossover games.

For example, canonically Goku and Kirby would be the most powerful characters of the roster. That has absolutely no bearing in their in-game strength.

Anyway. Support.

X clearly is great alt material. He's basicly asking to be included IMO.

I updated the moveset (finally). Tried to balance between all of X's games, though biased towards the first few. I thought about including Zero somewhere, but I figured he'd be better as his own, separate character.

@Mellon the fact that Megaman X is superior than Megaman doesn't mean he can't be in Crusade. Pichu is a ''worse'' version of Pikachu and he is in. And he was in Crusade's first demos and was remplaced with the Original Megaman. But I think he has high chances of coming back like Mewtwo did but with a resprite.

So he has my support.

Desu brought it to my attention that he lacked a dash attack, so I filled it in alongside the ledge and getup attacks.

Any complaints, supports, etc?

I agree, I think the Hadouken and maybe Shoryuken should be secret moves that can be done with combinations like Ryu. His Final Smash shouldn't be something that Ryu already has, it should be something unique that X can do.

So here's a suggestion: you know on mega man X8 you can do a special attack on the boss when a special gauge fills up to the max? So,here's the idea:
pressing the special button when the f.smash gauge is at max,he summons a spherical field around him which pushes all nearby enemies. Then he summons zero and axl, then they do their boss' special attack (X fires a giant blue laser beam. Zero does multiple slashes with a bigger Z-Saber. Axl fires at his targets with two Axl Bullet pistols instead of one using orange-colored bullets.)

PXZ (Project X Zone) is where Capcom, Sega and Namco Bandai work together to create a RPG. Alot of characters from their games appear, but must be human in apperance (Hence why X, Zero and KOS MOS are playable, but Sonic, Pac Man or Klonoa aren't).
