Design

Series

Gameplay
Marvel vs. Capcom:
 
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom:
 

Appearances
Earliest Appearance- Mega Man 1 (1987)
Latest Appearance- Mega Man 10 (2010)
Major Appearances- Marvel vs. Capcom (1998), Tatsunoko vs. Capcom (2008)

Moveset
This is not perfect, but it gets the job done.
The moveset mostly takes inspiration off Marvel vs. Capcom and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, but for smashes it's mostly TvC.
And in some cases I had multiple ideas for things, mostly for the specials and Final Smash.

Specials
Neutral Special: Roll Buster
Fires off a medium sized shot, but cannot be charged unlike the Mega Buster

Side Special:
1. Broom Dash
Roll dashes forward with her Broom, similar look to Ashley's Up Special in SSBC
2. Bucket Splash
Roll splashes a bucket of water onto the ground, can be used to trap enemies

Up Special:
1. Beat Call
Beat carries Roll upwards for a short period of time
2. Tornado Hold
Works similarly to one of Mega Man's custom up specials from SSB4

Down Special: Mega Ball
Similar to Mega Man's old side special in SSBC

Final Smash:
1. Hyper Roll
Works similarly to Mega Man's old Final Smash
2. Beat Plane
Roll hops onto a plane form of Beat and can fly around shooting enemies down for

Smashes
Combo Smash: Punch-Kick-Broom Swing

Side Charge Smash: Broom Swing

Side Smash: Kick

Dash Attack: Mop-Up
Roll dashes forward mopping the floor

Down Charge Smash: Broom Spin
Spins around with the broom, similarly to Shulk's Down Charge Smash in SSB4

Up Smash: Uppercut

Up Charge Smash: Broom Upward Spin
Roll spins the broom above head

Up Air: Broom Swing

Forward Air: Kick

Back Air: Backwards Kick

Down Air: Broom Swing

Grabs
Forward Throw: Toss

Backward Throw: Spin-and-Throw

Upward Throw: Broom Swing

Downward Throw: Broom Swing x3 and kick

But first... Let's provide the the three Final Smash attacks of Roll

Burning Smash: Roll's finisher in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom

Blazing Smash: that Other suggestion the man behind this thread left for us, something about beat or something?

Final Smash: Hyper Roll

Standard Attacks
We'll probably make her a Chun-li clone all the way down to the lightning-fast Kicking combo so... Fuck it!

Smash Attacks

Standard: Non-Specific Roundhouse Kick

Side: Air Man's Weapon used as a Top Spin

Up: Splash Woman's Trident

Down: Oil Man's Weapon ala Heat Man

Dash: Nitro Man Wheels Grinding on her feet.

Special Attacks

Standard: Blade Man's Weapon

Side: Hard Man's Weapon.

Up: Rush Jet

Down: Sheep Man's Weapon

Grabs

Grab: Thunder Claw (From Clown Man)

Up Toss: Elec Man's Weapon

Side Toss: Gutsman Toss

Pummel: Knee to the Face

Down Toss: Top Spin (From Top Man)

Final Smash
And this is Taking into consideration my ideas for the Smash Gauge

Burning Smash: Drill Man's Weapon re-fashioned as a Giga Drill Break!

Blazing Smash: "Roll Special" Like the Mega Man Special, except with Roll.exe and Iris

Final Smash: "All Weapons Deploy" Lasers, Missiles, Explosions, all that fun stuff and when she's all out of Ammo, she reverts to her normal self.

Yeah, the whole 3 final smashes per character thing is never going to happen. Multiple final smashes is reserved to a select few characters by alt selector, and we're not going to start adding it to everyone.

I like how the broom is used for the normal moves - that's good. The problem I have is that she's using the buster and rock ball - we don't have to resort to those. Let's pretend she was never playable in MvC2. Roll can't use the Robot Master weapons anyways (though she has defeated them - look at Mega Man: Powered Up).

My opinion on the specials:
Down special can drop a bucket of water for a stage hazard that trips opponents (think Villager's sapling custom except larger area). Side is the broom dash, that's fine (though instead of a single hit, it should be rapid-hits as she sweeps. Think Chibi-Robo in SSF2). Up can be the Beat Call (no reason she can't get help from the other robots), and neutral special can involve another buddy (maybe Eddy to drop a healing item?). Final Smash should be the level 3 combo from TvC, of course.

Unfortunately, she isn't really that unique... but she'd still make a nice compliment to Mega Man.



@Spoon: Don't bother trying. 3 final smashes isn't happening and nothing you can say or do will change that.

I'd prefer if she wore her original attire in this game, it's what I'm most familiar with. But I don't really care if she wears her MM8 attire either.

Found the Roll post~ SUPPORT! But i would prefer if she played majorly as her tatsunoko version because that's not only less clone-ish, but also more in character

What's the issue? "Supportive"/"Minor"/"Playable in spinoffs"/"Secondary" characters like Peach, Toad, waluigi, Ashley, Geno, Tingle, Falco, Krystal, Gooey, Tails and Knuckles made it in based on popularity/recognition.

I also like how her moveset here incorporates her broom from TvC. Definitely a good idea.

Falco, Peach, Ashley, Geno, Falco, Krystal, Tails and Knuckles are FAR different from Roll.

Peach has gotten her own game, very iconic, a main character of the Mario series, playable in all spinoffs.
Falco is Fox's best pal and a star member of the Star Fox gang.
Same with Krystal.
Ashley has appeared in all WarioWare games and is very major in being part of Wario's company until just about everyone leaves in D.I.Y.
Geno is a main character, only in SMRPG though.
Tails is one of the most known gaming sidekicks and a main character of the Sonic series.
Knuckles is the same point as well.
Tingle's actually the most recurring Zelda character from what I see, besides the obvious of course like Zelda and Ganondorf, etc.

Gooey was added by the old dev team. I'll give you a point on Toad but they are far more major then Roll.

Perhaps that doesn't compare to Peach's huge list of games under her belt, but this effectively puts her above Ashley, Geno, Falco/Krystal and Tingle in terms of playability.

While not on the level of Protoman in terms of involvement inside the game's stories, she has appeared in (Almost?) All the classic mega man games. She is basically the "Peach" of the game in terms of story involvement: She doesn't do much, but has had her fare share of playable roles. The plot doesn't surround around her, but "Roll being irrelevant" is too far of a stretch. She's got the recognition part to spare.

Really her only competition from the classic series is Proto Man, who would most likely be a semi-clone that jumps & shoots & shields, because she actually outfames the late-joiners Bass & Treble.

So really, Roll CAN compare to many of them. Perhaps not to Peach in terms of games under her belt and she is definitively no Luigi to Mega man for comparison to tails/Knuckles, but she is pretty up there easily.

No, Peach DOES do much. The main goal is to save Peach, of MANY Mario games.

Playability isn't all that matters for a character though. She's been playable in some games, but does she really do much in those games? And half of those games are fighting games.

I didn't say Roll shouldn't be in, I'm just trying to say you can't compare her to a lot of those characters. And I feel we should get Megaman X repped instead of another Classic rep but I'm sure that can be persuaded as I've barely played Megaman

Technically, not many characters can be compared. King K. Rool, Bowser and Dedede are all the Main villains, but can't be compared.
My point being: Roll's relevancy is undeniable and people are downplaying her as the "less than iconic Girl that doesn't do much" when she is so much more.
