Version Select

What do you think of having older versions of characters from previous versions of Crusade as alts to choose from?

I thought of this back when Toad was changed in... well I forgot which version, but it was years ago. I was going to ask back then but decided against it. But since Ultra Street Fighter IV was doing it, I thought "why not suggest it?".

I love the original version of Toad that was in the older versions of the game. Since there will be changes/resprites of various characters, like Goku for example, how about allowing us to use the older versions as alts? Just in case the newer versions of characters don't appeal to everyone playstyle wise. Or they just want to compare the differences via gameplay to see which version fits their playstyle better.

What do you think?

Resprites are done because of bad sprites, we arent going to bring them back in. It's about presentation, and characters get revamped when their presentation is bad. Bringing those back would simply bring down the presentation of the game. The only viable alternative to do this would be to have alternate movesets in the new sprite sets, but that's too much extra work.

I have to agree with PH here.

Characters are altered because of balance changes, heck I remember when Bomberman was "top tier"

Nowadays everything is/is being balanced, bringing back older versions might screw that up

This idea makes me salivate.

But on previous ver. characters, I'm wouldn't prefer it. Some of these characters were imbalanced, but more importantly, for the outside players, they're pure ugly. I'm not just talking about Goku-to-be pushing out the old one, Mario and Luigi were pretty hard to look at as well in the old version.

Moats' point is that it should be a choice. He prefers the old Toad, and yes, even though he might be the only person to think that, it would still be great to allow him access to it. Having an older version on the links page wouldn't hamper anything, because the vast majority of people will go download the latest version anyway. I'd say, at the very least, have 0.8.4 as an option, because 0.9 has a significantly different feel that not everyone will like, and because the current version of 0.9 is still too beta to be an official version.

Ohhhh. I misread the question. I thought he wanted the old characters selectable in the new game. Of course the old version should be up for grabs.

I was referring to a MUCH older Toad. I forget which version since it's on my old laptop. He had decent combo potential IMO, especially with his multi-flip side special for ending combos. I believe it was the version before Toon Link was added.
