Super Smash Bros. Crusade! featuring DANTE from the Devil May Cry series!

Dante (from the Devil May Cry series) Discussion 4ek7gu5xhlw41

Introduction

I saw the other Dante post on the wall of shame, and I honestly couldn't help but laugh that they were using the DmC: Devil May Cry Dante. However, this is the real Dante from Devil May Cry's 1 through 5.

Why Dante?

Dante has been one of the most requested Super Smash Bros. characters as of recently. He didn't make it in Smash Ultimate, but only as a Mii Costume. I feel like this would be the perfect time to get that Stylish action we've been wanting for years. Note, Dante actually has recently appeared in three titles on the Nintendo Switch! Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2 (we can forget about this one), and Devil May Cry 3. If you really want to based Dante on DMC1 or DMC3 because of the Switch games, you can do that, but I would honestly prefer his DMC4 appearance or his DMC5 appearance. Dante would be a complex character to develop, but would be really fun to play as. So let's begin!

Gimmick 1: Styles

This is the complex part I was talking about. In DMC3, it introduces players with the styles you can choose from. By using Dante's Down Special, he can switch to four different styles. Trickster, Swordmaster, Gunslinger, and Royalguard. Trickster improves Dante's movements, Swordmaster expands more moves for his Rebellion sword, Gunslinger expands more moves for his guns Ebony & Ivory, and finally Royalguard improves Dante's defense.

Gimmick 2: Devil Trigger

When Dante's DT bar is about 3 blocks, he can transform into his DT form for a short time. This form will increase his attacks and movement. To activate Devil Trigger, hold down Down B to activate it.

Neutrals

Double Jump (Air Hike):
When Dante double jumps he makes an aesthetic circle platform below him. In the DMC games, this second jump has invincibility frames, so I think the better option is to have super armor or don't include the invincibility frames at all. I think it should be used for an aesthetic reason.

Jab (Rebellion Combo A):
Quickly press the A button to perform a three-hit combo with his sword.

Rabid Jab (Million Stab):
If you quickly press A after finishing one of the Rebellion Combos, Dante will perform a multi-hit stab. You can even use this move while performing Stinger.

Side Tilt (Rebellion Combo B):
Press A, wait a second, then press A two more times quickly for a four-hit combo with his sword.

Up Tilt (High Time):
Dante will perform an upwards slash, but if you hold the button, he will slash the opponents up the air. This move will help Dante players gain more combos.

Down Tilt:
Dante doesn't really have any moves related to slashing downwards in the DMC games, so uh... I guess the best I can come up with is his downwards slash from Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Dash Attack (Stinger):
Dante's most iconic move allows Dante to lunge forwards with his sword. If you quickly hit the A button again when he hits his opponent, he will perform Million Stab.

Neutral Air (Swing):
Dante uses Cerberus or King Cerberus to swing his nunchucks forwards.

Forward Air (Killer Bee):
Dante uses Beowulf to perform a dive kick.

Back Air (Aerial-Cross): Dante uses Agni and Rudra to slash forwards.

Up Air (Flip Kick): Dante flips kicks in the air with Beowulf.

Down Air (Helm Breaker):
Dante will slash downwards in a quick fall.

Forward Smash (Crystal):
Dante will slam Cerberus onto the ground to create ice pillars.

Up Smash (Tempest):
Dante will twist Agni and Rudra to create a fiery tornado.

Down Smash (Volcano):
Dante pulls out Beowulf to slam his fist into the ground, which sends a shockwave. Dante will yell "Go to hell!" but that wouldn't be kid-friendly wouldn't it?

Grab Pummel (Gun Attack):
He shoots the opponent with one of his guns.

Forward Throw (Normal Shot):
Throws them forwards and uses Coyote-A to shoot at the opponent.

Backward Throw (Normal Shot):
Throws them backwards and uses Coyote-A to shoot at the opponent.

Upwards Throw (Acid Rain):
Throws the opponent and shoots the opponent multiple times with Artemis.

Downwards Throw (Wild Stomp):
He stomps the opponent down and shoot them with his guns.[/b]

Specials

Neutral Special (Styles):
Each style has a unique way to fight against your opponents.

TRICKSTER
  • Dash: Pressing B then tilt left or right will result Dante into dashing back or fourth. This makes evading enemy attacks easily. Pressing B again will result to Double Dash or Triple Dash.
  • Wall Hike: Pressing B near a wall can let Dante run up walls to avoid attacks. Cannot work in the air.
  • Sky Star: Simply pressing B in the air will let you perform an aerial dash, which is great for recovering off the stage.
  • Air Trick: Press Z + Up B to disappear to reappear above the opponent. This only works if you're near an opponent.

SWORDMASTER
  • Prop Shredder: Press B to spins your sword vertically. The initial attack will fling the opponent upward.
  • Aerial Rave: Press B in the air four times to perform a 4-hit combo on the air.
  • Sword Pierce: Press Z + Up B to throw the Rebellion on the enemy, it comes right back for awhile like Pyra's side B.
  • Dance Macabre: Press Z + Down B and then press B to perform Rebellion's ground attacks and combos in a rapid, separate combo, ending with Million Stab.
  • Crazy Dance Macabre: While using Dance Macabre, hold down and press B during Million Stab to make Dante plant his sword in the ground and spin around it to finish the combo.

GUNSLINGER
  • Gun Attack: Simply pressing B will let Dante shoot with his guns, Ebony and Ivory. If he keeps shooting, you can move him from left to right. You can shoot upwards and downwards. You can shoot in the air too, but it functions like you expect it to be, he goes airborne with this move.
  • Rainstorm: Rapidly press B to shoot downwards in a spiral. If you've seen Joker's move from Ultimate, this is the move.
  • Charge Shot: Hold down B to charge your guns, then release to shoot powerful shots.
  • Rapid Shot: After using charge shot, you can rapidly shoot powerful shots, but after 5 rounds, it's back to normal bullets.

ROYALGUARD

  • Block & Charge: Press B to perform this move. Each opponent's attack on this moves makes the move stronger if released. If attacked, any character's attack will be about 1.5 or 2 times weaker (it really depends on balancing the move with math), but Dante will not flinch.
  • Release: By pressing Z + Up B will release the move. Depends how much is on the bar, the move's attack will do as much damage.
  • Ultimate: By pressing Z + Down B will block enemy attacks and convert the block energy into life power for yourself. Cannot Royal Block. Anything that breaks a normal Block will break Ultimate.

Side Special (Drive):
Holding down this button charges a power beam, if used multiple times it becomes Overdrive that launches two more power beams.

Up Special (Real Impact):
Dante will pull out his Beowulf gauntlets to perform a powerful uppercut in the air that chains the opponents.

Down Special (Style Change):
Like Shulk, holding down this special will access to Dante's styles. Up for Trickster, left for Gunslinger, right for Swordmaster, and down for Royalguard.

Final Smash (Judgement):
Rebellion will stab Dante to enter Sin Devil Trigger to perform the ultimate move from DMC5. It comes with a couple of sword slashes with these red swords around him, and finishes the opponents off with an explosion.

Other

Up Taunt:
His DMC1 taunt which swings his guns around.

Side Taunt:
His DMC3 taunt where he taunts the opponent to come here and says "Come on wimp!"

Down Taunt:
His DMC4 taunt where he shrugs and says "You scared?" or "Hey, what's up?"

Air Taunt:
Believe it or not, Dante has an air taunt in DMC5 which where he throws a rose. The rose does a little damage and does not flinch the opponent.

Victory Animation:
Crusade doesn't have special victory animations (aside from Weegee) and I thought the transitions with the guns shooting the screen would be clever, but it would be too much. I thought of two different victory animations. The first is him eating a slice of pizza, or he plays his Nevan guitar.

In Conclusion

Believe me, creating a moveset for Dante is really hard, and I tried to make it a little more simple because his moveset is so complex. Yet, if his moveset is done right, he would be a really stylish and fun character to play as and I really hope the Crusade Team think about this and add Dante one day, but hey, I can dream.
