AiAi is the main character and protagonist of the Monkey Ball series, one of the longer running modern Sega franchises. The gameplay of the series involves guiding a character in a ball by tilting the stage to get through the end goal. It also featured a wide variety of minigames. The first release was in arcades in 2001, but most people remember him originating in the gamecube game "Super Monkey Ball". The latest release was only last year on iOS devices.
Why AiAi over other possible characters? - People have been asking for another non-Sonic Sega character for a while now. While Ristar is there to represent the classic Sega, Aiai is here to represent the modern Sega. His popularity as a Sega character is noted in the crossover games, as he is the most prominently featured next to Sonic characters (take a look at the Sonic & Sega Racing Transformed box art!). - Nintendo relevence as his most priminant games all appeared on Nintendo consoles. - AiAi is no stranger to Smash Bros - Super Monkey Ball 3D featured a mode called 'Monkey Fight' which was similar in mechanics to Smash Bros. - His ball is a neat mechanic, and the rest of his toys can make him feel unique among a cast that has virtually every kind of playstyle. - Who doesn't want another silly monkey in the game?
His playstyle is half glass cannon, half zoning. He has some powerful attacks when he gets close, but they can be a bit difficult to use. On the other hand, he has some neat items he can use to control the battlefield, helping him to atually connect with his strong attacks. He's light, so it's easy to knock him around - though he's also quick (slightly less than Fox speed), so it may be hard to catch him.
Moveset: (WIP)
Jab: Monkey Jabs AiAi makes a series of 3 punches with his fists. Nothing special.
Forward Tilt: Comet Punch AiAi takes out 2 boxing gloves and makes a series of 2 swings in front of him. The second hit leads into the second, which has fairly significant knockback. It's essentially a slower Little Mac forward tilt from Smash U.
Up Tilt: Glove Thrust Using a boxing glove, AiAi punches upward. Fairly significant knockback for a tilt, but comes out a tad slow.
Down Tilt: Banana Peel Pretty much what you would expect from a monkey character, AiAi takes out a banana peel and places it on the ground. It can be picked up again as an item, similar to Diddy's.
Dash Attack: Speed Star AiAi rushes forward before skidding to a stop, knocking away enemies in the way. Fast to come out, but has a bit of endlag.
Forward Smash: Power Glove AiAi takes out a large boxing glove on a spring, charges, and fires it forward. This is a powerful move and is also fairly fast, but it has a lot of endlag - make sure you connect!
Up Smash: Long Glove AiAi takes out another boxing glove, but this one has a longer spring. He charges, and fires it upward. While not as powerful as the other smashes, it goes up quite high, potentially allowing him to snipe someone trying to make a safe landing.
Down Smash: Glove Swing AiAi takes out a smaller boxing glove on a spring and charges, but instead swings it around him a few times. Compared to his forward smash, it takes longer to come out, but stays out longer, making it a bit safer at the sacrifice of some power.
Neutral Aerial: Chimpy Spin AiAi does a horizontal spin with his arms stretched out (think Ness), knocking away nearby enemies.
Forward Aerial: Glove Punch AiAi uses a boxing glove and punches in front of him. It comes out a tad slow compared to his other aerials, though it can still be comboed in to and has quite a bit of knockback.
Up Aerial: Chimpy Flip AiAi does a backflip, kicking anyone who happens to be above him. Can combo into another move afterwards, including itself.
Back Aerial: Monkey Dart AiAi throws a dart behind him. Similar to Villager's, it's a fairly decent projectile to keep opponents at bay from a range, but it's not as powerful as Villager's up close.
Down Aerial: Chimpy Kick AiAi simply kicks below him. Comes out fairly quickly, but has a horizontal-ish knockback, thus he has no meteor smash. Mostly good for gimps.
Grab: Chimpy Grab AiAi simply attempts a grab. Nothing special.
Pummel: Shake! AiAi shakes the helpless opponent, causing a minor amount of damage while also producing a visual effect of bananas flying out.
Forward Throw: Fore! AiAi takes out a golf club and strikes the opponent, sending him/her sailing away. Not as powerful knockback as the back throw, but does more damage.
Up Throw: Monkey Tennis AiAi tosses his opponent slightly up, then uses a tennis racket to knock him/her away upward.
Back Throw: Home Run! AiAi takes out a baseball bat and swings at the opponent, causing a large amount of knockback. A fairly good KO move once you've racked up some damage.
Down Throw: Ice Cube AiAi puts an ice cube in his hand and places it on his opponent, launching them slightly upward while frozen temporarily. AiAi can follow this up with another attack.
Neutral Special: Monkey Ball Upon pressing the special button, AiAi is encased in a ball. While in this state, he can roll around and only perform a jump while on the ground. While his maximum speed is more than if he is running by himself, it has a lower acceleration. Ramming into enemies causes a high amount of damage and knockback. AiAi is also immune to damage while this is active! However, he is not immune to knockback, and actually takes increased knockback in this form. It lasts as long as he wants, and can be turned off simply by pressing the special button again.
Side Special: Bowling Bomber AiAi takes out a bomb and rolls it forward, similar to Bomberman. It has a lot of vertical knockback with a slight amount of horizontal, so while it isn't good for gimping it is useful for stage control.
Up Special: Monkey Target A trampoline appears under AiAi, launching him into the air. This initial jump has a light amount of knockback. After reaching his maximum height, he takes out the Monkey Ball split into 2 halves, using it as a glider to slowly fall to the ground. This glider can be put away at any time by either attacking or pressing down on the control stick.
Down Special: Disco Ball AiAi places a disco ball above his head (or where he is at in the air). This disco ball shines a light directly at the ground below it - anyone who stands in it automatically performs a taunt, after which they have a half-second to get out of it before it forces another taunt. Only one may be out at a time, and it can be attacked - after taking ~10%, it will be destroyed.
Final Smash: Super Monkey Ball AiAi lets out a loud screech, and 3 of his friends (MeeMee, Baby, and GonGon) fall onto the stage inside their own monkey balls. They all do a bit more damage and knockback than his own ball, with MeeMee able to stay airborne longer, Baby moving faster with less knockback, and GonGon moving slower with extra knockback. AiAi regains control as soon as he finishes screeching, allowing him to take advantage of the situation. They all dissapear after a set amount of time, or they can be knocked off the edge.

Finished off the moveset aside from some unimportant stuff (ledge, getup, final smash). A lot of the moves are fairly generic, but that's ok for him, so long as his playstyle is interesting enough.
Well... final smashes are usually turned off in competitive settings, right? It'd probably just drop bananas everywhere or something...

Nonononononono, Final Smashes are important. So you need to come up with something good and powerful. Something that AiAi can do, but usually doesn't do unless it's really necesary.

Um... I already used his Monkey Fight 'Final Smash' as his ftilt, and the Sega All Stars as his neutral special...
The only things he could really do are bananas (since every hit against opponents made bananas appear, and that's what he used to charge his 'final smash' on the 3DS) and calling for help (meaning MeeMee, Baby, and GonGon roll around the stage in monkey balls).
