DEBUT: Paper Mario (2000)
LATEST APPEARANCE: Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam (2015) (COMING SOON!)(Roy, the person who made Paper Mario's actual moveset and made the original thread worth a click, encouraged me to do this; I have his explicit permission, and the actual OP is not around and their own Paper Mario thread wasn't very good.)Paper Mario is the plucky yet silent protagonist of the fittingly titled Paper Mario series. Even though he doesn't talk much, somehow others know exactly what he's saying! He's fond of a hammer and uses it quite a bit, and utilizes jumping a ton as well. He's commonly joined on his adventures by companions, such as Partners and Pixls. In Super Paper Mario, he was even joined by Peach, Luigi, and BOWSER!
But enough about the man himself for now; let's talk about the series.
Paper Mario was an absolute success when it was first released in 2000 and continues to be one of the most loved, praised, and cherished Nintendo series today. And for a good reason; the series features memorable and colorful characters, amazing humor, awesome dialogue, simple yet very intriguing gameplay, along with tons of other amazing gameplay mechanics. And who can forget the beautiful storyline of the various games?
While Paper Mario: Sticker Star got the series and it's fanbase in a bit of a bad situation, the series is getting back on it's feet with a crossover game with the Mario & Luigi series. Who knows; maybe we'll be seeing Paper Mario as an NX (Nintendo's new console) launch title!
Now that I've gotten all my strong feelings about the series out (what can I say? The Thousand Year door is my favorite game of all time!), let's talk about why Paper Mario deserves to be in Smash.
Paper Mario would have an amazing, unique moveset that features exciting gimmicks and new mechanics. He has tons of new things to bring to the table, including his partners.
The series itself is one of the most loved Nintendo series of all time, with amazing reviews and audience reception. The games are constantly included in lists like "Best Games of All Time".
Now then..here come the arguments!
He's Another Mario! This isn't SSB4. We don't have our other Mario, the good Doctor Mario. I love him, but it's for the better, sadly. Paper Mario is Mario in name, and basically nothing else.
We Have Too Many Mario Reps!Mario is the most famous gaming series of all time, for one. Also, this is a fangame, we don't need to worry about roster constrictions. Another Mario rep, especially one as unique as Paper Mario, wouldn't hurt a bit.
..That's really all I can think of! Wow!
Paper Mario's MovesetBefore we start the moveset, here's Paper Mario's main 2 gimmicks.
OverchargeMake sure to time your charged attacks. If you unleash the attack right before fully charging, it does less damage!
Stylish! If you tap the attack button with perfect timing after using a move, you'll perform a "Stylish!" trick, which can include backflips and much more. Your attack and defense is increased a bit for a small time, and you heal a small bit of health. However, it's hard to land a "Stylish!" trick.
FootstoolFootstools deal 2% damage.
Paper Mario's Neutral MovesNeutral: Paper Mario slams his hammer down. Does good damage, but you can't jab with it.
Side Tilt: Lady Bow appears, very quickly, and uses her powerful slap a few times.
Down Tilt: Paper Mario spins right in place, quickly. This is his Superguard attack, by the way.
Up Tilt: Paper Mario thrashes his hammer around in the air.
Dash Attack: Paper Mario spins forward with his hammer.
Ledge Attack: Paper Mario quickly swipes outward in his Roll form before turning to normal.
Getting-Up Attack: Paper Mario
Paper Mario's Smash MovesSide Smash: Paper Mario hauls his hammer above his head and slams it down, and huge arcs of fire erupt and move forward forward from him, also causing a burn effect. (Fire Drive)
Up Smash: Paper Mario jabs an icy hammer straight above him (Ice Smash) which causes a freezing effect.
Down Smash: Paper Mario twists around and around until eventually he uses Charge Smash, and spins around repeatedly as he does.
Paper Mario's Special MovesNeutral Special: Paper Mario hops onto Koops/Kooper, and the Koopa spins outward, slamming into whatever foe faces them. You can charge this to make them go farther and faster, and they can also pick up items.
Side Special: This is a very unique move in that if you do it on the ground, Paper Mario uses his Roll transformation, where he transforms into, well, a little cylinder roll thing. You can roll around quick and it'll juggle enemies, but you have long lag after ending it (you can end the attack by pressing the Side Special button again) and it doesn't do a ton of damage.
If you use Side Special in the air, you become transform into the Airplane, another one of Paper Mario's transformations. This is weird to control, but it's an amazing recovery move if you use it right. It also juggles the opponent, but watch out, because you can nosedive and face extreme endlag! You can, of course, exit the transformation any time, by pressing the Side Special button.
Up Special: Paper Mario folds downward the more you charge up the move, and eventually forcibly springs upward, using the Spring Jump. If you hit a roof or such, you'll slowly fall down, but this can damage enemies on the way up. Paper Mario does the same exact thing in the air, because the series isn't exactly abiding to physics.
Down Special: Paper Mario quickly puts Bobbary/Bombette on the ground, who walks forward and explodes. You can press the down special button at any time to make the bomb automatically detonate. You can charge it up to make the explosion bigger and the bomb walk faster. Also, there is a VERY rare chance JERRY, one of Paper Luigi's partners, will appear instead. He causes a bit more damage, but that's all.
Paper Mario's Grab MovesGrab: Paper Mario throws out Thoreau, his Pixl buddy who grabs enemies. You can actually charge this too! The more you charge, the farther Thoreau will go, and once he snags an enemy, he'll take them back over to you. However, Thoreau is a bit slow; think like Pac-Man's SSB4 grab.
Pummel: Paper Mario bonks the enemy in the head with his hammer.
Front Throw: Parakarry appears and slams the opponent right in the stomach with a quick dive-kick.
Back Throw: Paper Mario gets out Flurrie and blows the enemy back.
Down Throw: The enemy suddenly dissapears into the ground, but then pops right back up, and Vivian uses her Shade Fist on them.
Up Throw: Paper Mario uses Thoreau again, grabbing the enemy with him and throwing Thoreau upwards, until Thoreau quickly spins around and throws the enemy upwards.
Paper Mario's Aerial MovesNeutral Aerial: Barry the Pixl appears and a spiky barrier appears around Paper Mario. You can tap the button multiple times to spin around, gaining a larger hitbox when you spin.
Forward Aerial: Lakilester appears and Mario holds onto his cloud as Lakilester strolls forward. Slow but deals great damage.
Back Aerial: Paper Mario does a backflip!
Up Aerial: Paper Mario quickly grabs onto Parakarry's feet, and Parakarry rockets upward a short distance.
Down Aerial: Paper Mario ground pounds straight to the ground. Can meteor smash.
Paper Mario's Miscellaneous ThingsShield: Paper Mario flips and becomes 2D when he shields. You can move around while you do this as well, but very slowly, and it can break like any shield.
Crawl: Paper Mario basically does Wii Fit Trainer's Smash 4 crawl.
Swimming Animation: Paper Mario becomes his Sailboat form.
Taunt 1: This is a very unique taunt, as Paper Mario whips out Goomber/Goombella and the Goomba uses Tattle. This will make them babble about a randomly chosen fighter currently in the battle for a bit.
Taunt 2: Paper Mario waves at the camera, smiling.
Taunt 3: Randomly summons a partner not seen in the moveset. They pose, and the partner disappears.
Victory Pose 1: Paper Mario jumps excitedly, then humbly adjusts his hat with both hands (Common win pose in Paper Mario)
Victory Pose 2: Paper Mario flashes a thumbs up, then tips his hat.
- Alternate Costumes And More:
Costume 1: Normal Paper Mario.
Costume 2: Paper Mario equips the L Emblem, making him colored like Luigi and gaining Luigi's L on his cap.
Costume 3: Paper Mario equips the W Emblem, making him colored like Wario and gaining Wario's W on his cap.

Costume 6: Paper Mario gains his Shadow design from when Doopliss stole his identity. He is completely purple except for lightning-yellow colored eyes.

Jerry:
AND FINALLY...PAPER MARIO'S FINAL SMASH!!!Star SpiritsPaper Mario does his little "praying" animation and the Star Spirits appear. They quickly get to work, and help Mario in various ways.
Eldstar and Misstar heal Mario, while Mamar has a chance to randomly put an enemy to sleep. Skolar rains stars on the battlefield, and Muskular causes a random enemy to have lowered attack power. Klevar has a chance to immobilize an enemy, and Kalmar has a chance to make an enemy become a little star on the ground (basically stunned) for a while.
This is all going on at the same time! It's a very wild Final Smash, but very fun, and you can actually potentially escape it pretty easily.
End NoteWow, this was a wild thread to write! I'd like to thank Roy, one of my Chatbox Crew members, for encouraging me to revamp Paper Mario as I've been planning to for months.
Here's hoping for a ton of supporters!
Speaking of which..
