Who: Staple antagonist for the unreal tournament franchise up until the the third installment. Created by the Liandri mining corporation as a leader contestant for their upcoming sports team in the newly manifested game of consensual murder, the Unreal Tournament. He (unsurprisingly) became the champion for two years until the challenger Malcolm dethroned him and rendered him unable to reclaim his title since, he however remained one of the final bosses of challenge mode (last event in the game) up until UT3, and he is my (dubious) proposal for an addition to the Crusade roster.
What: (all designs for the character are in an attached file) a medium-sized character who is heavy and a little on the slow side.
kit:
AAA-Combo: two punches with the final hit being a melee shot from an enforcer (big pistol-esque weapon) with small knockback, can be finished with down tilt to keep a target in place for maximum damage.
Dash Attack: pulls out a colored flag (color based upon sprite) to dash forward to strike with a pointed tip that deals minor damage and knocks the target upwards with kill power at about 200%
Side Tilt: pulls out the above enforcer, but instead charges slightly forward and simply pistol whips the target, dealing moderate damage and dragging the target in the direction you strike with no knockback (DI thwart able)
Up Tilt: fires the flak cannon (glorified shotgun that has the capacity to launch its shells to explode into shrapnel upon contact) upwards, launching a small ball just above your head for minor damage, after a brief delay, the ball will explode on the ground, dealing moderate splash damage.
Down Tilt: strike a target with a melee kick that has no knockback and moderate damage, while simultaneously a spider mine will explode behind you for moderate knockback if that side hits
Neutral Air: does a quick flip with a chainsaw that deals quick, minor damage with no knockback
Forward Air: Uses the ripper to deal a quick burst of a lot of small damage that locks the target in the place
Back Air: fires the enforcer for moderate damage and knockback which also propels you back a little bit
Up Air: fires the link gun beam upward to pull the target in and deal 1% damage every half of a second the attack button is held down while in the air
Down Air: strike the target in rapid succession below for a short duration with the minigun
Neutral Special: pulls out a sniper rifle to enter a stationary position that can only be broken by flinching or pressing B again, this will create a reticle that will be superimposed over the screen, this can be moved at the average movement speed for a fighter, pressing A will fire at the target location, dealing moderate damage and knockback to the target hit, if it hits the target's center of mass, it will crit in the same vain as rest and be an instant kill at as low as 20%
Side Special: uses the alternate fire of the shock rifle to launch a sphere of energy that moves slowly forward across the screen, dealing rapid bits of damage to any that touch it, if side smash hits it, it detonates in an area around it, causing large knockback.
Up Special: on the ground: Load up to three rockets into the rocket launcher. Air: Fire the loaded rockets downward, more rockets will increase the width of the projectile and increase the recoil you recieve for a jump, 1 rocket will just stop your fall, while three will propel as high as two jumps, if you hit the target point-blank with this ability, it will spike the opponent.
Down Special: Put up the shield gun in front of you, it will then stop any projectiles dead and leave them dormant for up to 20 seconds, this does not protect behind you.
Side Smash: fire the normal blast of the shock rifle, with no smash charge, it will only damage players at melee range with average kill power, at full charge, it fires a ROB-style laser across the screen in front of you, beam deals moderate damage and melee knockback has been doubled, any charge however will detonate any energy balls in its path
Up Smash: Charge the bio rifle to lay a pitfall-style trap below you, duration is based on charge, deals damage over time to an enemy in your trap
Down Smash: Slam the lightning gun to the ground, causing an electrical burst at your feet, damage is based on charge, but it also launches dormant projectiles in the direction opposite you across the screen at double their normal speed.
Final Smash: JUGGERNAUT: Triple in size, deal damage to any you step on, fire homing rockets with the A button, fire rapid shock beams with the B button, and you gain infinite jumps.
Why: Representation, not many people have heard of this series, and and some of those that have write it off as a GoW clone due to its art design and the fact they were made by the same company. That just isn't the case to me, I remember watching my father play Unreal tournament
when I was a kid and even more of him playing the sequel, 2003/2004. I love to watch him play it, and the violence never seemed to bother me, as it was very cartoony and it never really felt like death had any consequence, and all the vibrant levels and exotic weapons just got me exited, I often begged my father to play this game just so I could watch him do it, but one character always scared me ever since I heard his unique and disturbing voice in the first game, Xan Kregor, he was tough, mean, kinda creepy, and just looked badass; he was the only reason I was even remotely afraid of the robots in the later games, because I didn't want to take any chances if it meant that I might hear his shrill voice again and especially if he was in the game. He would always put me on my toes, no matter where he was, he was just the nemesis to all who dared challenge his rightful crown in the tournament, for he was just the unchallenged king of series to me (and to some degree, still is).
Fast forward to today, series is dead silent (until the 4th installment comes out), and no one really talks about it too extensively, then I see an opportunity to shed some light on my childhood series, the unofficial characters section of a fan-made, open-roster, smash bros game. I think about what I can contribute to this board and I run through my head what I should pick for a new series to be represented, then an absurd thought hit me: "Wouldn't it be funny if some unreal tournament character were to join the ranks?" but then I thought about it, it's not too far fetched to think of a way to implement Xan into the game, I mean with the characters added, there's no reason why
He doesn't fit the tone, he sticks out too much!
as opposed to Snake and Weegee? He's never been in an Nintendo game or been on a Nintendo system!
I don't think Crash has been either, and if he has been, it was before the PSP He's OP!
Nerf him, I don't mindI'm not trying to say he takes priority over Zero, or that this kit is the only one that can exist for him, I just want to shed some light on one of my favorite franchises growing up, and I hope I get some views and responses to complement my idea
