| The "survival" genre is definitely one of the more popular genres in gaming. From crafting to eating and foraging, the boost in popularity in the genre thanks to games like Minecraft is unarguably huge. So certainly, the genre should offer an interesting playstyle if included. Heck, if people think the puzzle genre needs to be repped, why not this one? But the most obvious representative, Steve from Minecraft, is left in the dust due to his easily changeable appearance (making the default skin somewhat unmemorable and un-relatable), and Minecraft has not ever appeared on a Nintendo console (and is owned by Microsoft now, to boot). So what other survival game series is decently popular and is set to appear on the Wii U next month? Don't Starve. With an artstyle inspired by Tim Burton, Don't Starve is an unforgiving yet addictive take on the survival genre that was originally released in 2013 for the PC, and a Wii U port is set to happen next month, giving it the Nintendo relevance people oh-so want. And who would be the best fit to be playable from this game? None other than the game's mascot, WILSON. Wilson is a "scientist" who is transported to a wilderness seemingly to die there, and it is up to Wilson to survive and find a way out. Using his incredible intellect, Wilson is able to create unique inventions and weapons using the things he finds in the wilderness. Some of these unique inventions include a landmine that shoots out bees when stepped on, and a huge slab of ham used as a blunt bat. Moveset - Spoiler:
Playstyle: Wilson’s gadgets and magic items are indeed useful, but require resources to build (use). All of Wilson’s specials use something just called “resources”, of which he can have up to 6 at a time (possibly indicated near his damage on the HUD somewhere). He starts with 3. For every special attack he uses, Wilson consumes a resource, and when all resources are used up, Wilson’s specials can be very limited. Wilson can re-acquire resources, however. When using Wilson’s tilts, Wilson will use tools (specifically his axe, shovel, and hammer). When Wilson hits an opponent with a tilt, he his guaranteed at least 1 resource to be added to his storage. Wilson can also use his down tilt (shovel) and up tilt (hammer) on normal surfaces to have a chance at acquiring resources, even if he hits nothing. Wilson also automatically acquires a resource if he picks up an item.
Entrance: Wilson starts laying on the ground. He wakes up suddenly, holds a hand to his head, then gets up.
Jab: Wilson performs a weak punch whilst leaning forwards. Pressing the A button in succession will have Wilson alternate which arm he punches with. Forward Tilt: Wilson takes his axe and chops forwards with it. Up Tilt: Wilson takes a handcrafted hammer and swings it over his head, smacking it on the ground in front of him. Down Tilt: Wilson digs the ground in front of himself with a shovel.
Forward Smash: Wilson takes out a tentacle spike and swipes forwards quickly. Up Smash: Wilson takes out a Ham Bat and lifts it swiftly above his head. Down Smash: Wilson puts down a lit pile of gunpowder, which promptly explodes after a few seconds after Wilson finishes putting it down. Deals massive damage, and can hurt Wilson as well.
Dash Attack: Wilson dawns a Football Helmet and headbutts forwards. Edge Attack: Wilson performs a weak punch whilst climbing back up. Get-Up Attack: Wilson smacks opponents on both sides of himself.
Neutral Air: Wilson spins around in the air. Forward Air: Wilson takes out a board and smacks in front of himself. Back Air: Wilson takes out a dead fish and smacks backwards. Up Air: Wilson opens an umbrella above himself. Down Air: Wilson takes out a spear and stabs downwards.
Grab: Wilson attempts to grab the opponent with his hands. Pummel: Using his huge cranium, Wilson headbutts the opponent. Forward Throw: Wilson makes a weak attempt to hurl the opponent away. Back Throw: Wilson, using all his might, hurls the opponent backwards. Up Throw: Wilson tosses the opponent upwards. Down Throw: Wilson pushes the opponent, knocking them down.
Neutral Special: Sleep Dart Wilson blows a dart out of a small reed. The dart travels quickly and deals damage on impact. If opponents are hit with enough darts within a short amount of time, opponents can be forced to fall asleep. If used without resources, Wilson will just blow the reed, which deals small damage close to Wilson. Side Special: Ice Staff Wilson uses an ice staff to fire a cold projectile. If an opponent is hit, they will take damage. If they are above a certain percent, they will be frozen. If used without resources, Wilson just smacks forwards with the staff. Up Special: Telelocator Staff Wilson holds up a mystical staff, then lighting strikes him, possibly hitting close enemies. Wilson will then re-appear a set distance away based on an input by the player (ala-Zelda), again in a flash of lighting (which can, again, possibly hurt opponents). If used without resources, Wilson can still teleport, but he does not travel as far and he takes damage upon re-entry. Down Special: Bee Mine Wilson sets down a bee mine. When opponents walk near it, they will take initial damage and then continuously be harassed by bees. Bees have 5 HP and can be easily dispatched by either an opponent or Wilson. There can only be one bee mine out at a time, and Wilson cannot put another bee mine out until all previous bees have been dispatched with. If used without resources, Wilson just pretends to plant something down, but nothing happens.
Final Smash: Old Bell Wilson takes out the Old Bell and rings it. After a small delay, a large foot comes down and slams into the stage, instantly KO-ing any character hit directly by the stomp and heavily damaging any players near the sight of impact. The drawbacks to this final smash is the fact that, on larger stages, it can be difficult to actually hit anything with this.
Win: Wilson is grabbed by shadowy hands and is pulled into the ground. Lose: Wilson claps for the winner.
Taunt: Based on a nearby character, Wilson will look at the camera and say something about them. Examples: Mario: I wonder if I could borrow his fire flower? Luigi: He wouldn’t last a day where I’m from. Ridley: I’ve seen bigger. Pikachu: I wonder how it tastes? Ice Climbers: Those parkas look warm. Ashley: She’ll need to teach me some of those spells. Wario: The worst thing I’ll smell all day. Ryu: I think he’s trying too hard.

| Wilson, you say? Can we have the Tentacle Spike as a Smash? Nonetheless, I fully support. (Sound guys, you better have a flute(I think?) handy.) |

| I didn't really enjoy Don't Starve that heavily, to be honest. I'll admit that having Wilson around would be pretty cool, though. |

| I understand that this is over a year old, but I think Wilson would work well with the quirkiness of Don't Starve. Support
On a similar subject, I have a concept for a Don't Starve stage, but I'm not sure how to make it work properly |
