MercuryHg34: Spriter in Training Empty
PostSubject: MercuryHg34: Spriter in Training   MercuryHg34: Spriter in Training EmptyThu Jan 03, 2013 2:37 pm

So I finally decided to try spriting so that I could helo Earthgirl out somehow and so that I could start making sprites for Crusade in general. I don't expect to become a master instantly, and I know it will take time. That's why I've decided to post my progress here as I improve my technique so I can get some criticism form the more experienced spriters here.

So first I tried a simple recolor. I changed the colors on one of my favorite Pokemon, Ferrothorn. I think the colors I chose could have been better, but I really just picked two random base colors to work around. My main goal here was to try my hand at the recoloring process to see how well I could do it. So here is my first attempt at spriting ever:

So tell me how I did, don't hold back. And advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not bad for a first try. Much better than my first attempt. *shudders in horror*
now here's hoping you don't sprite P:M moves for the vets

Also we've practically de-P:M'd everyone with a few exceptions anyway so there's that...

Well it looks like you chose 2 random colors from the basic MS Paint colors

When choosing palettes generally try to stray away from that (exceptions being white or black obviously, though even then some spriters try not to even use those), either make your own colors or possibly try to take colors from a reference (ex: You're spriting Mario, so you take colors from a Mario picture).

I'd say try to expand on this and try to make a more easy-on-the-eyes blue and maybe try to make a yellow as well.

I probably made no sense but who cares

I understand everything you just said. I just feel awkward having actually done all of that initially. What you see is the result of what you just told me...

I guess I'll just experiment with even more colors on other sprites, thanks for the imput.
