whatever dudes be my guest if you still prefer to argue over whether a character is quote unquote deserving instead of focusing on whether or not they are an interesting addition from a gameplay/dynamic perspective (double points if you don't have to devise a ridiculous, straw-grasping moveset to make them unique)
it is really interesting that while the forum community was stuck bickering over boring and obvious stuff for 5 years like whether a goomba should be playable to represent the understated "minor enemy" aspect of the mario franchise the devs themselves put tingle, crash bandicoot, petey piranha and snivy in the game with literally no regard for the arbitrary nerd force of "series representation" and all 500 people who play the game loved it. yes, you did too.
this aint no human resources department there aint no affirmative action in super smash bros fangame land
Will adding Zangief steal precious character-select-screen real estate from Zero? (no. next question)
Will Zangief, a grappler, make a fun, unique and unexpected addition to Smash Crusade?
As a grappler, would Haggar diversify the role better?
Is coding, spriting and animating Zangief a viable pursuit for the team?

I'll answer those questions from my own perspective. 2. Yes. We have no grappler/wrestler and his moveset is extremely fun as well as what you can do with him and his combos, and of course he'd be unique. And no one would expect him imo but I'm not sure. 3. Final Fight is dead and has been for a long, long time. Haggar's not even in Street Fighter like half the Final Fight cast, and only appears in crossovers, and even that rarely. I love him too but no not really in my opinion. 4. That's something only a dev could answer.

In theory it would. It all depends on execution.

No. The two are pretty much rivals, even stealing the other's move for their own. You can pretty much replace one or the other with only one of them having a steel pipe as a difference. Though if you want a grappler but not another SF Representative, there is another, more Nintendo, option. But that's not for here.

He would be a unique challenge to sprite and animate, though he has a lot of details that could make it difficult and probably not worth it.
Not sure myself if I would want to see Zangief in Crusade. He never really interested me.

If you want to say that Mega Man died and was reincarnated as MN9, fine. That doesn't mean Mega Man, as a franchise, is still alive. The entire conception of Yooka Laylee and Mighty Number Nine is riding on the fact that their inspirations have died.
You also skipped over Sliss' analogy which pretty much hit the nail on the head.
Well, yeah. I was never trying to say Mighty No. 9 is a new entry in the Mega Man series, or a reboot, or any bollocks like that. Just that it's a new game that's purposefully keeping the soul of Mega Man alive.
As far as Sliss' analogy, though, birds aren't extremely and intentionally reminiscent of dinosaurs. I don't look at birds and think "Wow, this is like having dinosaurs again!"

Ugh. Missed some discourse here.
Ottsel, please don't do this in this thread, we don't need this. Spiritual successor does not equal new game, and Sliss's analogy is correct.
You're right on not doing this here, and I'm done after this. See above for response to the rest.

And it's not like Mighty Number 9's a good game lol
You are joking, right? If not, it's not out yet, so unless you backed it and got access to the demo, off is the direction in which you can do something lovely.

Which means they can't Add Zangief AND Zero? 2 characters and the roster screen is filled up?
Granted, no, but a screen can only have so many thumbnails before it gets ungodly levels of cluttered, and I'd rather see that clutter consist of characters I'm interested in.

That is actually a more sensible reasoning beyond "I want a different character in". which has always been my topic of discussion.
Well, alright then.

I'm saying why would you support the character with it's current moveset (assuming you didn't like that moveset), rather than withhold support until it had been modified to something you like more? Unless, of course, it didn't seem like there was a good chance of your desired aspects being implemented by the OP, for whatever reason.

Was thinking that'd simply be a recolor, Final Smash should be something that's common to Zangief. Though maybe.

If you don't want the recolor, there's always the Alternate Costume based on Mech-Zangief.

Yo I'll support. And everyone, this is about the giant Russian, not about MN9 and crap. Don't derail the thread
With that outta the way, I like the moveset. While I think most of the specials should be grabs I can see why they're specials. I will say that the Banishing Flat needs to be the main down B tho, because as said, it was a Super in MVC.
Also for the Up-B I was thinking that his V-Trigger, the Cyclone Lariat would work as it keeps him in place. In the air it could lift him up like DK's up-b but with more hits. Just because the current Up-B seems to be 100% no recovery. That should be a drawback for him, but c'mon, jumping forward? Not really a 'recovery'.
Overall great moveset. Support. Again.

I agree with Lariat for Up B. I mean, there are a few moves not originally designed for a certain button combination so liberties can be taken (i.e. Yoshi's Egg Up B)
Here's some more inspiration to draw from in the upcoming game:
