PostSubject: Regigigas (Pokemon) Discussion: Not Starting Slow This Time!   Regigigas (Pokemon) Discussion: Not Starting Slow This Time! EmptySat Oct 03, 2015 9:59 am

Spoiler:

FIRST APPEARANCE: Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl (2006)
LATEST APPEARANCE: Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire (2014)

The Pokedex states "Regigigas: The Colossal Pokemon.  An enduring legend states that this Pokemon towed continents with ropes.  It is also said to have shaped Regirock, Regice, and Registeel out of clay, liquid, and magma."

This literal mountain of raw power never got much credit in the games due to it's terrible ability; Slow Start.  Heck, even no ability at all would have been better.  Naturally he won't need to be hindered by this too much in Crusade (but to an extent).  I mean, think of the potential of a giant craftsman golem!

There is the obvious problem of ANOTHER pokemon rep, but maybe I can convince you he is cool enough.

Are you friggin serious?  ANOTHER Pokemon?

For the last time yes! Stop asking me that!  And besides, I made this more for fun than anything.  I'm not expecting a miracle (Though I would be SUPER stoked if this were considered).

Fine, continue to the playstyle or whatever...

Thank you.

Regigigas is huge and bulky.  160 attack and 110/110/110 defenses are AWESOME in the Pokemon series (or would be, if not for Slow Start >.<), so it's obvious that Regigigas should be a tank.

The element of Slow Start will be included like this (I came up with it to try to find a unique method of incorporating it):  Regigigas will start the fight with massive lag on his smash attacks, throws, and aerials.  His normals, titls, special moves, and the actual grabs will be normal speed.  This makes most of his powerful attacks unsafe.  However, as Regigigas uses his special moves, his slowed moves will become faster, capping at a certain point.  Time also increases speed, but not to an extreme.

However, more than the other bruisers of the series, Regigigas would be a grappler-type character, with emphasis on his grabs (I'll explain a bit more specifically in the Moveset segment) as a reference to Crush Grip, Regigigas's signature move.  The move would also be a command grab as one of his specials.

Finally, Regigigas would have a recovery that would be on the worse side of so-so, but not absolute garbage, and no projectiles.  However, he will have a manner of defending against them, since without one he can gain no leverage in the early game.

Moveset

Jab 1: Regigigas thrusts his arm closest to the opponent out.  Almost zero knockback.
Jab 2: Regigigas punches the opponent with his other arm.  Small knockback.  Being the glacier he is, he only has a two hit jab.

Side Tilt: Regigigas backhands the opponent.  Large range.  Not much knockback.
Up Tilt: Regigigas swipes upward.  Decent knockback.
Down Tilt: Regigigas hits the floor, causing a small shockwave in front of him.

Ledge Attack: Regigigas headbutts the foe.  Slow and telegraphed, but low endlag and high power.
Wakeup Attack: Regigigas simply gets up while shards of rock erupt on either side of him.

Side Smash: Regigigas swings both his arms at his foe with maximum force.
Up Smash: Regigigas cups his hands with lightning charging between them, and then spreads his hands out over his head to create a Shock Wave.
Down Smash: Regigigas slams his arms down to his sides.

Neutral Aerial: Regigigas thrusts his arm that is closest to the screen out.  Has a small hitbox behind him too, but it deals less damage and knockback than the one in front.
Forward Aerial: Regigigas swings both arms down, hitting the opponent.  Has a sourspot at Regigigas's upper arms and a sweetspot at the top of his fists.  When sweetspotted, the move spikes.
Backward Aerial: Regigigas turns his body a bit and kicks both legs behind him.  Not very strong,  but his quickest aerial.
Up Aerial: Regigigas claps his hands above him.  Kinda crappy.
Down Aerial: Regigigas curls his legs and falls.

Grab:  Long arms give outrageous grab range.  Like Donkey Kong, can move while grabbing.  Can hold them longer, but moves slower. Holds opponents with one arm.

Forward Throw: Regigigas rears his arm back and throws the opponent with all his might. Quicker than it sounds.  Also deadly.
Backward Throw: Regigigas slams his opponent into the dirt, quickly turns, and then punts them like a football.
Up Throw: Regigigas holds the foe out and then blasts them away with energy.
Down Throw: Regigigas holds his foe on the ground and causes a small shockwave, dealing lots of damage repeatedly.  He then simply backs away a bit.  Briefly stuns opponents.

Neutral Special: Crush Grip. Regigigas grabs the foe and crushes them, then lets them fall to the ground.  Good for setups, and can grab foes in the air.
Side Special: Thunder Punch. Regigigas throws an electric punch that breaks shields easy.  Other options are Ice Punch, which would freeze airborne foes, and Fire Punch, which just straight up kills, but I really don't like the idea of a variable move.
Up Special: Zen Headbutt. Regigigas launches upward while encased in psychic energy.  Not much distance but very maneuverable.
Down Special: Wide Guard Regigigas instantly creates an energy shield that absorbs projectiles but doesn't reflect them.  However, it has pretty much zero startup or endlag.

Taunt: Regigigas roars a mighty roar.
Taunt 2: Regigigas crushes a large rock in his hand.
Taunt 3: Regigigas dances a bit with a mini Regirock, Regice, and Registeel.

FINAL SMASH: Creations. Regigigas summons the three Regis who each use powerful, wide-ranged attacks on nearby foes, and Regigigas finishes it off with an explosion.

Yo yo wait wait no

You just copied my trademarks

The sassy guy who argues against all my characters (played by me), the DEBUT and LATEST APPEARANCE, and the End Note!

How dare you, you goon!

Really though; not a bad idea at all. Infact, give me some time, and I may support him. He's pretty dang iconic, after all, one of the most popular legendaries.

I think if you actually incorporated Slow Start into some kind of gimmick it would make for an interesting character

Perhaps a rage kind of mechanic? You start out pretty weak and slow, but the more damage you deal/damage you get (pick one) you get even better until maxing out to the best potential. However, it's, as such, a bit easy to knock out Regigigas.

That's not really a fresh idea. Sounds a lot like Lucario.

Well then how do you expect an original idea? I don't have any other big ideas.

Rather than a gradual increase to stats, simply have his stats double past 100% damage taken. He could be a bit below average for the majority of his stock, but when he lives past 100 he becomes brutal, gaining movement and even more offensive power. He would be pretty weak to gimping strategies but otherwise he could be quite the tank.

what if its attacking speed is the slowest in the game to start of with but every 20 seconds or so regigigas speed increases until it flatlines.

These all sound WAY BETTER than any of my ideas.  Just make sure to keep his good grab game, as Crush Grip is his signature move.

In fact, I'm willing to edit the OP if you all think it would be better to keep his weirdly bad ability.

He seems pretty cool as a character the only thing I don't really like is the final smash it just sounds super falcon punch like attack. that is my only qualm.

P.S. Support he needs to be in now

The only problem I have with this is it being unlike the in that the increase happens in stages rather than all at once

Hmm, this is a really interesting idea...it feels like an oddball choice similar to Petey. I'd support it, but I have some things to add

-The Smashes should represent Regigigas and not the Regi trio. Come up with something only Regigigas can do for them

-Side Smash could be based on Dizzy Punch and have a chance of flipping the opponents imputs for a couple of frames after the hitstun in exchange for not being that strong.

-An idea for Up Smash I had was to have him form electricity between his hands while holding them above him, based off of Shock Wave.

-Down Smash is tricky...we could either just move Bulldoze here and make it function like Charizard's Down Smash, or we could have him slam both of his fists in front of him into the ground.

-Specials should stay level-up moves only in my opinion. Zen Headbutt and Crush Grip are awesome, but Bulldoze and Smack Down should be removed

-Instead of Bulldoze, give him Heavy Slam. It would act similarly to King Dedede's Smash 4 Dash attack, but the unique thing about Heavy Slam in the Pokemon games is that it deals more damage to lighter foes. We could have this move deal massive damage to, say, Jigglypuff in exchange for having more endlag.

-Smack Down should be replaced with Fire, Ice and Thunder Punch. Like Peach's Fsmash in Smash 4, it would cycle between the three elements each time you use the attack. Fire would be the strongest, Ice would freeze the opponents in the air to start up combos and Thunder would be the fasted to execute and act out of.

With all of that said...we already have Lucario in the game. Isn't one 4th gen Pokemon enough?

If Mellon's Ideas are incorporated I feel like the regi trio should represented in some form other the a taunt. Perhaps they should be in the final smash somehow as they appear to attack the other players.

So, I listened to your suggestions, and made some changes.

First, I decided to have slow start work like this: His most deadly moves have massive lag at the start, to the point of being near useless, but using other moves, mainly the specials, causes that lag to decrease.

In addition, I changed his smash attacks, two special moves, and his final smash at the request of the people. I didn't like the idea of his side special changing, even if in a set order, so I went with Thunder Punch. Also, not all of them are the exact suggestions for the moves, but were changed to fit the general request regardless (for example, I didn't use Heavy Slam, but I did make sure all of Regigigas's special moves could be learned by him by level up.)

Please give me all the thoughts!

Woah now, it's either all the punches or none of them. If we're just gonna make his Side Special a Punch we might as well just make it Dizzy Punch. I chose the elemental punches for the specific purpose of switching between them.

Would Dizzy punch be able put an enemy into a dizzy state some of the time or would it simply be very good at sheild breaking
