IntroductionIndie games! We all love 'em! (Well, most of the time...) And out of all the indie games out there, I wanna be the guy is one of the hardest one out there. So, how would IWBTG's main character, The Kid, fare in Smash? Let's find out!
I wanna be the guy is an indie game made by one guy called Kayin. The game has become known as "The hardest game ever made" and has spanned two sequels, one spinoff that was never finished and an official sequel that's still in beta. The game is known for it's ridiculous bosses, unfair death traps and, of course, it's spiking difficulty.
AppearancesI wanna be the guy - 2007, debut.
I wanna save the kids - 2007, cancelled prequel.
Super Meat Boy - 2010, secret character.
I wanna be the guy: Gaiden - 2012, sequel in beta 1.2.
Pros&ConsPRO: Stars in one of the most iconic indie games to date.
PRO: Would be very fun to play as and a pretty unique pick
PRO: Already has sprites for pretty much everything, would be fairly easy to implement.
PRO: A pretty new IP, which Crusade is lacking.
CON: The game has gore, and the language is not 100% kid-friendly. (Cough, Snake, Cough)
CON: Not THE most iconic indie game out there
CON: Doesn't have too many games to take moves from.
CON: No news on the sequel for three years.
In CrusadeI imagine The Kid would play similarly to his games: Fast, hard, unpredictable and able to rack up a TON of deaths (Or in this case, damage.) He should be fairly light-weight and small, along the lines of Kirby. Everything else, however, should be the complete opposite of Kirby. Kirby is fun, easy to use and has very varied move animations. The Kid should be annoying, extremely hard to use and look exactly the same when charging smashes, using specials, etc. Also, since the Kid really doesn't have that many moves, he could use some of the traps and boss attacks in his own moveset! Of course, I'll reserve his specials for his own attacks, but since the game is built around the tricks and traps, why not?
MovesetA attacksAAA: Like one of the death traps in IWBTG, The Kid uses Ryu's Tornado Kick and starts a flurry attack. Deals 3% damage with minimal knock-back for each hit. No finisher.
Side tilt: The Kid throws the wine glass Dracula throws before his boss battle a short distance, which also creates a fire pillar. Deals 7% damage and knocks the foe backwards a lot. Has medium start-and end lag.
Up tilt: A quick stab upwards using Link's old NES Sword, which is also one of the games many many tricks. Extremely quick and deals 10% damage, with medium knock-back. Barely any end lag
Down tilt: A random Tetris block falls in front of The Kid and disappears if it touches the ground, like Villager's forward smash. The L-block paralyzes the foe (5%), the cube deals more damage (15%), the T-block knocks the foe quite far and is good for edge guarding (10%) and the I-block is quicker than the rest (10%). However, there's a small chance that a large D.r Mario pill will drop instead, which works like Mega Man's Air shooter except downwards.
Dash attack: The Kid turns into one of the Blankas Kraidgrief uses in his boss fight. Travels pretty fast and has astounding knock-back, but only deals 5% damage. No end lag, slight startup.
BONUS OPTION: The Kid turns into the airplane from Mario Paint, which travels twice as fast as his normal dash. Has a lot of end lag and not much knock-back, but deals 13% damage, making it very devastating.
AerialsNair: One of the many death traps that appear more than once, the monstrous tree-zombie hand appears and keeps anyone close away with some nice knockback. Deals 8% damage and has no end lag, which means it can be spammed...alot.
Fair: The kid shoots two smaller versions of Mecha Birdo's eggs, with the first bullet having just enough knock-back to make sure the second egg hits home. The second egg deals 6% damage and has incredible knockback, while the first egg deals 3% damage. A medium end lag and a slight startup.
Bair: Since I'm trying to include at least one move from each boss here, this attack could have The Kid spew embers of fire behind him, while letting out Mike Tyson's laugh from the very same IWBTG boss fight. Deals 14% damage at most and barely has any knock-back.
Uair: The Kid throws one of Bowser/Wart/D.r Wily's Bo-Bombs upwards, which explodes at the peak of it's throw or upon contact. Has really good knock-back and decent damage at 11%, but has a medium startup.
Dair: The Kid catches on fire and flies diagonally down, like a meteor. Deals 15% damage and has decent knockback, but also deals 3% damage to The Kid. Has no end lag and just a slight startup.
SmashesSince Smashes are the most lethal of attacks in Smash bros, The Kid's smash attacks should be the most lethal attacks in I wanna be the guy! And by lethal I mean annoying, and by attacks I mean...traps and trolls. Ugh.
Forward Smash: A tree appears from thin air in front of The Kid and an apple (Well, they're more like giant cherries) drops from it, which deals 25% damage if fully charged and 19% at it's weakest. A bit slow, but has insane horizontal knockback.
Down Smash: Two spikes appear next to the kid and grow twice as tall. Very quick and deals 23% damage if fully charged and 15% at it's weakest. Knocks the opponent upwards, similar to Pit's upper-dash arm.
Up Smash: The Kid turns into the green Cheep Cheep from I wanna be the Guy: Gaiden and bounces upwards, before diving towards the ground again and turning back into The Kid. Deals 23% damage if fully charged and has okay knock-back, but it's good range and quick execution, followed by minimal end lag, make this move worth testing.
SpecialsOkay, I know that The Kid isn't capable of doing much. However, in his specials, I have made sure to include every single one of his abilities and nothing else. Have a look.
Neutral B: The very small gun (Yes, that's what it's ACTUALLY called.) is fired rapidly and deals the same damage as the Super Scope. Like that weapon, the very small gun can be charged and fire a charged shot from IWBTG Gaiden, making it different from most other projectiles in the fact that it can be fired rapidly with no end lag. Deals the same damage and knock-back as the Super Scope.
Side B: Not unlike Zero Suit Samus's side B, The Kid uses his grappling hook to deal 15% damage to anyone the hook grapples onto. Can be aimed upwards, diagonally and sideways, and can grab ledges. Has decent knock-back and a medium end lag, with just a slight startup.
Down B: A save point from IWBTG is summoned where The Kid stands, which can be broken by other players. When it's broken, a crack will appear on the checkpoint's red lamp. It will disappear after six seconds. So you might be wondering: "What does the checkpoint do?" Well, if The Kid uses this attack again, he will instead die and re-spawn right where the checkpoint is, without losing a stock! If this attack is used when the checkpoint is broken, however, The Kid will die for real and lose a stock.
Up B: The Kid jumps to the side and an invisible block is revealed. He wall jumps off of it and reveals another block on the same side. Rinse and repeat for about five blocks, where The Kid jumps off and activates his parachute from the beginning of the first stage in I wanna be the guy: Gaiden. Has decent vertical recovery, but amazing horizontal recovery. When he's wall jumping, The Kid deals 2% damage with knock-back for each jump.
Grab&ThrowsGrab: The Side B grappling hook, again.
Pummel: The Kid shoots while holding the grabbed foe close.
Forward throw: The kid lets go of the grappling hook and shoots the foe with three of Mother Brain's Rinkas. Deals 13% damage with okay knock-back.
Backward throw: Like in his jab, the kid uses Ryu's Tornado Kick to deal 10% damage on the target and send the foe flying far, making it a reliable kill move.
Down throw: The kid jumps up in the air and the moon appears below him, which crushes the target and deals 15% damage. No knock-back, but a lot of end lag for The Kid.
Up throw: While it may be a step down from the freaking moon, The Kid backs away as a platform of spikes fall from the ground and hit the target with 8%, then proceeds to hurl the target high up in the air. No end lag.
Final SmashThe Kid yells "I WANNA BE THE GUY!" like before his fight with The Father and equips his gun (The Father's gun), then shoots five bullets in a )-shape. He rapidly does this three times before firing a huge shot and then going back to the "Very Small gun". Each bullet deals 10% damage with considerable knockback, and the final bullet deals 20% damage with great knockback.
OTHERS
Entrance: The Kid falls from the sky and lands, then proceeds to say "HAVE AT YOU!" like in the beginning of the Dracula fight.
Taunt: The Kid shoots his Grappling hook upwards and grabs an invisible block, then swings back and forth before landing on the ground again.
Series Icon: The giant cherry. Poof.
Soundfx: The same as in IWBTG. Duh.
Idle 1: The Kid's cape flaps slightly
Idle 2: Blank
Idle 3: Blank
Crouch: Same as normal stance, but with his body slightly closer to his Rayman-esque feet.
Victory Theme (If added): The Game Over anthem from the original IWBTG.
Victory Pose: The kid splatters into pieces, like his Down B death animation.
