I'm sure many of you have noticed a delay while playing online for the non-hosting player. As far as I know, this has affected most online matches. If connections are good and the match is not lagging, the host will have perfect gameplay, while everyone else will have a 1 second delay or more in key response. During a tournament, this could be significant enough to determine the winner before the match has even started. At the very least it provides one player with the advantage.
As a solution, I have a proposal. Someone offered to watch matches in one of the tournament threads. I propose that it be required to not only have a third party watch but that they host, so both contestants have an equal delay/lag, if any. This way we can ensure several things:
1. The match will be fair in key delay
2. Rules of the tourney will be followed
3. There will be no disagreement about the outcomes of a match or the fairness of a match.
This should suffice for 1 vs. 1 matches, however it does not solve the same issue for 2 vs. 2. Nor do I have a solution for that. So for discussion:
1. Should we implement the above rule for 1 vs. 1 matches?
2. How do we solve this problem, if at all, for team matches?
