PCBR/Balancer Mains
Spoiler:

Here the forum users may submit videos of themselves playing to be critiqued by PCBR members from a competitive standpoint. The match may be against a CPU, but it is preferred to be against a human opponent. The match MUST be 1v1 OR 2v2 if a team wants critique on their team strategies and synergy.

The purpose of this thread is to improve the competitive abilities of those who wish to learn.

If you would like to submit a video for critique, you have two options;
- Post it in this thread
- Email it to Official_PCBR@yahoo.com (filemail.com)

If you post it directly in this thread, it will be critiqued publicly within this thread (unless you ask for the critique to be private).

If you ask for private critique OR if you mailed us the video, you will be contacted through PM with a list of constructive criticism after the PCBR has finished discussing it

Once again, all critiques are coming from a competitive standpoint and are meant as constructive criticism.

Didn't mention in OP, but you will be critiqued both positively and negatively. We will tell you what was good, not just mistakes

Somewhat of a re-statement of my offer from the channel's thread, but I am willing to watch/record friendlies or do 1-on-1 tutoring online.

In 1-on-1 tutoring I will play a few matches with you and talk about competitive basics and specific character strategies, known as a metagame. I will also help you polish your game to meet the competitive standard, focusing on improving both what you do well and what you need to fix.

I can also record your match against someone other than myself as a spectator, and then create a video to send to you (and your opponent if they request as well) that breaks down the fight to show things that both combatants do right and wrong.

I am open to requests.

Cool, I'll be online in the chatbox tomorrow. Let me know when you want to start. Also it will help me if I know how much competitive knowlege you already know (can just be some/a lot/none) as well as the character(s) you want to main.

Hey, everyone, including Det, plasmis and all the back roomers, were seriously crap at one point. This thread is to help improve everyone. We want you to take up a i'm-gonna-be-better-at-this-game attitude, not a please-call-me-a-noob attitude.

What Dry said. =)

Also to answer your question we (PH4 and myself) use Hypercam 2 for recording, and it's free so anyone can use it to send us videos or whatever you want. After getting raw footage we use Windows Movie Maker to edit before we publish them. I'm sure there's better software out there, so use whatever you think will make your video look great.

Hey merc, I'm kinda busy these days, but I'll let you know when I'm available.

Regarding my competitive knowledge, I know almost nothing. I have heard and read about a few techniques, but play casually and have had no practical experience.

I main Mewtwo.

If I am going to try to get into the competitive side of Crusade, what character should I start off with trying to main? I'm really looking for ease of play, with a few neat technical tricks to try out.

Thanks for the info, PH4 and I plan to main Mewtwo as well to make a competitive guide in the future. I'm on almost all the time, so just catch me on the chat and we'll work something out from there.

If we're talking about ease of playing, Ganon, you can't really get better than Meta Knight. Meta Knight has no complex projectile games and doesn't really need to place his attack that well, has very few advanced techniques you need to master, and still has very good, all-round matchups. He has one of the most offensive playstyles in the game, and his recovery is very easy to do. He also doesn't rely very much on combos, and his main ones are just using the same attack over and over again. Arguably the only difficult thing about Meta Knight is his overall speed, and his short-hop-fast-fall game is pretty fast because of his fast attack speed. But you need to have good speed to be a good competitive main of any character, so Meta Knight is probably your best way of entering into the competitive scene.

After that, it depends on what aspect of competitive gaming you want to focus on. Some characters have unique stage control and spacing games using projectiles and long ranged attacks: good characters for that are Toon Link, Krystal and Mega Man. If you want to splash out on sick, hitstun-reliant combos you should look for Falcon, who can 0-death a large majority of characters. Characters that go even faster than Meta Knight will be ones like Fox, Falco and Saki, who move as fast as they attack and often require quick successions of button inputs (jump cancel down B from Fox and Falco is a pretty famous thing in the competitive world). If you want to practise hitting opponents at the end of your range, predicting their own movements, good characters to start with are Ristar and Link, who have great range but are still punishable. The best edgeguarders in the game are very debatable, but Ristar, Lucas and Peach form an arguable first, followed by high priority, quick aerial edgeguarders like Meta Knight and Falcon, followed by the powerful move edgeguarders such as Yoshi. It helps a great deal to practise edgeguarding with slow moves such as Sonic's and Yoshi's forward air, or Mach Rider's down air, because at first it can be hard to place them properly.

Putting it out there that I am also open to 1-on-1 tutoring sessions.

Also going to bring up that each BR member has their own set of mains, and so your metagame and tutoring questions are likely to be best asked of a specific user. For example, if you wanted to know something about Krystal, you wouldn't ask me. But if you wanted some E. Ryu advice, I can help a ton. If any BR members interested in helping others improve could post their mains in this thread, I'll put that info in the OP.

Also note that this doesn't necessarily mean your character's BR "specialist" is open for 1-on-1 tutoring. They may be too busy, or just don't have the right computer set-up for it. It's best to PM the user first, at the very least they can chat with u verbally on metagame and good practice techniques

Peach is my second best main, PH4. Also, I main Falcon and Mach Rider. There's also a ton of characters out there that I'm more than competent playing, although I don't think that would count.

ph4, I think you should fill me in for all of the ones currently left blank. We gotta have a main for every character, and looking through the list of blanks I believe I'm good enough with them to help improve casual players.

Toad - No one yet.
T. Link - PH4 or Excal (I'm fine with either)
Gooey - Excal
Saki - PH4

I would skip on toad for now (but if you insist then speak to Dry). I've seen Ph4's Toon Link and Saki first-hand, and they're MEAN. I think Saki will be easier to learn than Toon Link, but if projectiles and spacing is your thing then Toon Link is perfect. To get a head's up on Saki: master short-hopped Fairs. If you watched PH4's combo video on youtube than you know full well how effective it is. Also check out PH4's guide on Toon Link, he didn't write it so that nobody would make use of it.
