Hey guys, I just recently tried this game and I'm really amazed by how much you've done! I'm new to the forums, so I haven't been able to see all the discussion that's been going on (I wish I had the time to), so maybe some of my comments have already been addressed, but I might as well give it a shot. Everything's been running very smoothly except for a few things...

Key holding

This is by far the biggest issue I've had. There've been a bunch of instances where if I'm holding down a key/button (usually the shield button), it won't work. Like if I've just recovered from a combo while holding shield, I'd normally expect the shield to come out once I'm out. It's also had the effect where I'm trying to a do a down tilt by holding down down, but I'm still standing.

Respawn

I can't control my character after respawn until he/she lands -- not even aerial movement... is it supposed to be like this?



The next one isn't a bug but rather a gameplay suggestion.

Picking up items

I see that the current way of picking up items is melee style where you have to be standing to pick them up, or use the grab button. Any thoughts on making it like Brawl where you can just pick it up by using A while running or in the air? This is insanely important for Diddy's game with his dash attack / banana pick up combined0into-one combo, which wouldn't be possible right now...


I had another mechanics suggestion for something that seemed a bit off, but I forgot what it was, maybe I'll think of it later. Anyways, keep up the good work!

Never even heard of these happening, it's something to do with your own computer or keyboard, or maybe you need to re-download

I agree with the respawning issue. I feel that should be fixed also.

The key-holding and respawn "glitches" are more than likely caused by trying to make an input too early and holding the input, expecting it to come out on the first possible frame. I've definitely respawned and tried jumping forward and using F-Air to find myself jump in place and use N-Air, but re-pressing the forward key would fix the issue.

We're still working on getting the item system bug-free. There are some other stupid issues floating around, like Snake's Grenades and Peach's Turnips.

I think that's it. That's how I usually play Smash, with my shield button down (or analog stick down), ready to make my next move at the first available frame.

Also, are there no pummel attacks yet? Or am I just having control issues?

Diddy's dspecial has been changed into Dixie Kong because tripping isn't implemented.
And no, pummeling is not in yet.

Ah ok, thanks.

Also, just played a little more and I figured a spot where I can consistently duplicate the button-hold issue. Whenever I'm in the air and hold down the shield button, it'll never activate when I land (despite me holding down the shield button the whole time), even though the shield should be by default active whenever you're on the ground.

If you do that then you airdodge. Whether you have melee or brawl airdodge, contiuing to hold the shield button after doing one makes you unable to pull out your shield until you release the button.

Nope... I just booted up my Brawl to check it out and the shield does come out even with the air dodge.

Edit: I might've misread your post, since you're talking about the Crusade settings. But yeah, that's what happens in Crusade, not what happens in Brawl, and in the latter I'm always holding the shield button so that I can instantly block, roll, or shield-grab when I land.

I wasn't talking about the console games, i meant that regardless of what airdodge style you're using in crusade that will happen.

You can technically buffer a shield out of an airdodge into the ground in Crusade. You have to move slightly left or right then stop for the shield to come out though.

So basically hold the direction you're moving when you hit the ground mid-dodge then release it quickly while still holding the shield button. It's really noticeable when you're trying to L-Cancel stuff but react slowly.

Yeah so that's what I mentioned in the edit of my last post... So now that it's established that isn't just my keyboard, would making the shield button a priority command on the ground (as in all Smash games) be a feature to expect in a future release/demo? Smile That and the inability to move left or right after respawn (or even in the beginning of the match sometimes) are the only major gripes for me. Otherwise I probably wouldn't stop playing.

You can move left/right directly after respawn, you just can't hold it while you're respawning and then start moving. If you're standing on the respawn platform for a short bit then input left/right you will get off and start moving left/right.

The shielding thing is probably doable but would be low priority.

@Maikeru Diddy is planned to be a tag-team character, with Dixie as his partner. Think Zelda/Sheik.
