Kat (Gravity Rush)


This isn't actually for SSBC; I made this for fun. Buuut here's an idea of what she could look like if we convinced the rest of the dev team to get her in!



Kat is the star of a fairly recent Sony first-party game, Gravity Rush.  It appears to be an upcoming hit series, with a recent remaster and a sequel on its way to PS4.  She is one of the more interesting recent characters in gaming, and her debut was very well received.  She has already appeared in a few spin-off games.

Gimick: Gravity Gauge.  This depletes rapidly as Kat uses gravity attacks and takes a few moments to fill back up.

SPECIALS:

Up Special – Gravity Shift:  Kat will float in the air, and the gravity gauge starts depleting.  The player can then point the control stick in any direction and fall in that direction.  This puts Kat in a pretty gimped state, unless Gravity Rush is activated, in which case it turns into a Gravity Kick and does damage.

Neutral Special – Gravity Rush:  Accelerates gravity on Kat by quite a bit and can be used in conjunction with Gravity Shift to good effect. Can be used either for normal falls for a mix-up, or with special attacks to increase her rush-down game considerably. Also speeds up Gravity Slide.  Depletes gravity gauge.

Down Special – Stasis Field: Lifts up nearby opponents for a second, can be used to start a combo.  Works kind of like Mewtwo’s side special in Sm4sh, but has strength depending on how far the enemy is from Kat.  It ranges from a good combo start-up if the enemy is on top of her, to a minor nuisance to enemies a bit farther away.  This does a pretty decent chunk to the gravity gauge.

Side Special – Gravity Slide:  Kat performs a sliding kick that can be held as long as she has her gravity gauge full.  She can also do a jump while doing this to have better maneuverability.  Does more damage if used in conjunction with Gravity Rush.

SMASH ATTACKS:

Kat’s combat in Gravity Rush is composed of kicks, and this move set will reflect that.
Up Smash: An uppercut-styled kick that launches Kat into the air.
Side Smash:  A charged double kick.
Down: While charging this, Kat will raise her leg into the air (similar to Ganon’s uptilt in sm4sh), and forcefully kick down when the smash is released.  Has a meteor effect.

TILTS:

Neutral: Three hit kick combo.
UP: Flipping kick.
Side: Roundhouse kick.
Down: Short sliding kick.

AERIALS:

Up:  
Forward: Kat does a drill-like kick that propels her forward.

Backward:
Down:
Neutral:  Kat does a kicking flip in the air.

Also, a neat thing would be to have Dusty following her around, or randomly appearing from time to time.

Oooooh, Kat is definitively an interesting character. Support!

I don't know if some inspiration from Play station All-stars could be added in with the objects and stuff, but the gravity gimmick alone sounds like enough for me.

The moveset's alright. I like the gravity mechanic.

But the character itself...I just don't think she should be in for a number of reasons. She's only got one game so far, and is very recent; I feel the 3rd parties should have had a chance to put a mark on gaming. Plus, she's definitely not the best choice for a Sony rep. You think Sony, you think Spyro the Dragon, not Kat from Gravity Rush.

I just can't support but only because of the character. The moveset is solid.

Well, her second game is coming up so time will tell with that.

I personally think we lack modern characters, and she would have a lot to bring to the table gameplay-wise, but I realize she's not a big one yet. But she has been used as a mascot of sorts for the Vita from time to time.

Or Ratchet & Clank, who've been around since 2002, have 10 main series games out with a new one for ps4 coming soon, along with a movie...

Anyways, huge support. Gravity Rush is awesome, Kat has really cool visual design, and this a great gravity gimmick.
One question, though: does Gravity Shift make her 'fall' indefinitely in whatever direction?

I can't support this simply because of the character itself. There's too many other Sony reps that have multiple games and have more of a legacy first (Jak, Sly, Ratchet, Sweet Tooth, Kratos, Sackboy, etc).

Not to say Kat isn't unique or anything... If we end up with 10 Sony reps, maybe.

Once the gravity gauge runs out, gravity will shift back to normal for her and she will fall normally.

I'd say legacy matters a lot more when the series/company has very little in the game. If we had only 1 playstation character, it really shouldn't be Kat. It'd be like putting in Rosalina before Donkey Kong.

Once we've gotten that down, then being unique is probably a much bigger deal. Of course, we can probably come up with a good, unique moveset for any character... so perhaps legacy / importance is always the most important thing. I do realize I'm probably going against some of my own suggestions (Jak, for example) but it's probably for the best for the game.
