Captain Syrup is the leader of the Brown Sugar Pirates (later the Black Sugar Gang), and the main villain in Wario Land 1 and 2, as well as having a major role in Wario Land: Shake It. As both a villain and a female representative, Syrup fills a necessary niche.

Syrup, being a pirate, has an array of typical pirate fare. She's decent at controlling the field as well as able to hold her own at close range, with her only real disadvantage is that she's a lightweight. More of a Mario, in that she's good at what she does but not amazing, except trading a bit of weight for a better keep-away game by abusing her eplosives along with her pistol.


Neutral Special: Flintlock Pistol
What good is a pirate without a gun? A standard projectile of sorts, where she shoots out an incindiary ballbearing, that deals extra fire damage after hitting an opponent.

Side Special: Robotic Minion
Syrup summons a minion with a spear that charges forward, turning if it hits an edge. It can be attacked to be destroyed, but otherwise lasts a decent amount of time (~10 seconds). Syrup can cause it to explode by hitting it with a pistol shot.

Up Special: Skull Craft
Syrup pilots a machine that lifts her into the air. It can take a bit of damage before breaking, allowing her to power through attacks to recover.

Down Special: Bomb
Syrup drops a bomb in front of her. It explodes after a good amount of time (~15 seconds), or Syrup can cause it to explode prematurely by hitting it with a pistol shot. She can only have 2 out at a time - if she places a 3rd, the 1st one fizzles out.

Final Smash: Denpu
Syrup takes out a lamp and rubs it, causing an enormous genie to appear. Syrup boards the genie, who she commands to rain fireballs accross the field.


Most of her normal attacks involve her scimitar. While she doesn't use it with as much finesse or skill as a normal swordfighter, and the sword itself doesn't have as much reach, she uses it more recklessly and thus it ends up being more powerful. She does have a few unique attacks:

Up Smash: Flame Pillar
Syrup points her sword diagonally upward, and a pillar of flame erupts from the ground in front of her. If this connects with a bomb or minion, it will explode and the pillar will double in height and power.

Down Aerial: Flame Burst
Syrup aims her pistol downward and a burst of flame comes out of it. This is a weak meteor, but deals quite a bit of damage and can set off her bombs and minions.

Grab: Thief!
Upon grabbing an enemy, she will take the opponent's held item.



While I haven't given as in-depth as a topic as I have in the past, I hope this is satisfactory to show why Syrup is a good fit for Smash.

I didn't even notice that moveset. Huh, lot of similarities... though I suppose there isn't that much to take moves from.

Wouldn't it be more fitting for her to operate a machine at all times like Dr. Eggman and Porky?

Maybe? But she never used one in Wario Land 1 or Shake It, and I feel like it would be more enjoyable for the player to play as a pirate rather than yet another mech.

I was imagining neither, like Bowser Jr's mechakoopas in Smash 4. Getting a guaranteed explosion seems a bit too strong, but perhaps she could have multiple... something for the devs to consider if she gets in.

We'll just have to wait and see. Captain Syrup has my support anyways. This game needs more villains. Bowser, Ridley, and Ganondorf aren't enough.
