PostSubject: Cabadath (The Chzo Mythos/Trilby's Notes)   Mon Aug 03, 2015 8:24 pm

Who is he: Cabadath comes from the Adventure Game Series known as The Chzo Mythos. Originally created by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw, the Chzo Mythos consists of 5 Days a Stranger, 7 Days a Skeptic, Trilby's Notes and 6 Days a Sacrifice. Cabadath first appeared in Trilby's Notes but was alluded to being the one behind everything. As for the character itself...
Spoiler:

What would his play style be: I'm thinking similar to Mr. X from Capcom Vs the World. He would be a heavy character, slow, and his run would be a small dash. To make up for this, he would have super armor that allows him to take hits without knock back. The Super Armor can be get through if 1) his attack is interrupted 2) he's grabbed 3) if he took a launching hit (a hit that would send a normal character flying).

So lets say Samus connected with a fully charged blast. That would send him flying like if he was a normal character. This would cause players to try know when to block and when to use the Super Armor. And for those against him, it would make them think on how to get around said super armor.

Reason for inclusion: While I bet you can name 20 Adventure Game characters that would more likely to be included first, with Cabadath you would have a unique play style, an indie game by a famous game reviewer that isn't about said game reviewer, and it would be great for a Halloween update.

I'm sure you people can come up with creative regular attacks considering he's a tall man with pointed stave, but I have a few ideas for moves. Two of them are used for helping him move around.

Neutral Special: Disappear - It looks like a teleport, but instead he is stationary. Used as a fake out to trick people into trying to predict moves. Has a cooling time to prevent spamming.
Forward Special: Forward Teleporting - This would work sort of like Zelda's Dim's Fire, only instead of an explosion you teleport forward. And only horizontally. If you use this move in the air, you can't use a follow up move.
Up Special: Upward Teleporting - Like Zelda's teleporting, only not offensive and only vertically. It will go straight up only.
Down Special: Counter - He takes a hit and then slams his stave downward. Sort of like this. Instead of launching, it does a meteor smash.

Final Smash: Chzo Blessing - A giant eye opens up in the middle of the arena. I have two options to go with this:
1) It creates a vacuum that would suck up any opponent(s) to the center of the eye. Cabadath can also help by hitting/throwing them to the center. After a while, the center explodes, launching anyone in the center.
2) The eye tries to find an opponent and fires a beam of damaging energy. It'll do this four times and only target the nearest opponent.

Hope this would be an interesting idea.

Why do we need an indie game character??? And one with literally 0 relation to Nintendo, despite that rule being vanquished afaik, and, especially a PC character.

A unique play style won't get a character into Crusade.

I don't even know who this game reviewer guy is. I'm not saying he isn't famous cause I don't know him, but I mean, how does this give him an advantage over the likes of, I dunno, Isaac and Samurai Goroh?

Halloween update isn't needed.

From my understanding this guy is a lot like Zelda? And two are just to help him move around. I can see you did try on the moveset, but while it's unique, it's not excellent.

And the super armor. Unique doesn't mean good. Personally, I don't think it's a good idea at all. If Ganondorf can dash, so can this dude, most likely. It's completely unbalanced. I'm sorry if I sound harsh here.

Yeah, I'm sorry man, but I don't think this should happen.

I don't think this is completely true.

However, this character isn't really unique - he's a heavy character that has extra super armor. So? What can this guy do that no other character can do? 3 of his special moves are generic teleports, and the 4th is a counter. Not looking good. On top of that, the character itself? Never heard of him or his game. You said yourself that we can name 20 adventure game characters that get priority (and there are probably many indie characters that also get priority).

I can see some effort was put in, but sometimes that isn't enough...

I'm sure Lego Shaq, of the Lego Movie, can have a great unique moveset. That won't get him in.

Though I mean, if it someone with heavy connections to Nintendo and not an indie game, a moveset may get them in, I'll admit.

What do you have against indies? As much as Crusade is a loveletter to Super Smash Bros., it seems like it's also come to hold representation for all areas of gaming. This is more than just fan-made Smash Bros.; the whole point of the Unofficial Characters forum is that Crusade has the potential to become an expansive, fan-made, Smash-style fighting game containing tons of beloved characters. Don't dismiss a character just because he's not necessarily recognizable/related to Nintendo.

That said, I do think iconic, renowned characters should take precedence over lesser-known characters. Not to say this character isn't valid for suggestion, but I personally wouldn't think his inclusion to be a priority.

Now, as for the moveset itself. A character focused entirely around psyching out the opponent could be interesting, and I kinda like the teleporting. However, the moveset overall would definitely benefit from being more fleshed out.But like Roy said, he's pretty generic.

I love Yahtzee, as do many, but I can't say I support Cabadath. There are simply too many other characters more deserving of representation, and he's just not recognizable enough. If he weren't ineligible for suggestion, I would totally support Yahtzee's hat-wearing avatar. I think he'd be a fantastic joke character in the same vein as Weegee. But, alas, no more non-game-originating characters are allowed.

Anyways, no support. Sorry.

I think if we got an indie character, it should be someone everyone knows. Y'know, like Shovel Knight or Quote.

Just to clarify for anyone who doesn't watch Zero Punctuation (which you should totally watch), that was just a reference to Yahtzee. Not actually aggressively calling anyone a prick.

But seriously, you should support Shovel Knight.

This character seems awfully violent with no real charm or general following worth mention. That makes its standing for me even further bellow a GTA or CoD character, honestly. Sorry duder. I'm gonna have to say no on Cabadath, even as a fairly big Yahtzee/ZP fan.
