PostSubject: Carl Johnson (Grand Theft Auto) Discussion   Sat Apr 11, 2015 6:29 pm

Easily one of the more recognizable GTA protagonists.  CJ hails from Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.  In the GTA series there are various weapons and vehicles that can be incorporated into his moveset.  Examples: Neutral B: 9MM pistol.  Small hitbox with decent knockback.  Side B: Motorcycle.  Works like Wario Cycle, but spawns random bike from GTA series all of which have different properties.  Down B: Satchel Charge.  Plants remote explosive.  Up B: Spawn Jetpack.  Flies upwards quickly, and falls slowly (like a parasol), with a message that appears in the upper right corner that says "Cheat Activated" as a reference to San Andreas.  I'm not sure what else to say...  As weird a choice as CJ is, he would be cool to play as.

am i the only one who thinks that this would work best with somewhat of a bowser jr smash bros thing with the alternate costumes? Like, dont just have alternate colored CJs, many people would find that racist because, you know, this is the internet. So, am I the only one that thinks for alternate costumes we have the other famous GTA protagonists like Tommy Vercetti, Victor Vance, Niko Bellic, Trevor Philips, Franklin Clinton, Luis Fernando Lopez, and Tony Cipriani. Idk, i just think it would work better this way.

Yeah, While taking the Bowser Jr. approach might be fun, the palette approach is more easier and less stressful.

The sad part about the Grand Theft Auto series is that none of the notable protagonist from the main series ever appeared on a Nintendo console or handheld. So picking someone who isn't iconic to the series really doesn't do justice for the series in a representation standpoint, imo. Ofcourse, this is going based on if Nintendo relevancy is a factor when adding a character to Crusade.

Any GTA characters that did appear on a Nintendo platform were one-timer, forgettable characters or basically generic beings with no detailed appearance or personality to work with rather than the more notable ones like Claude, Vercetti, etc.

As much as I feel that the GTA series is as big of a franchise to warrant a rep, there is no way we can add a notable representative if the Nintendo relevancy rule is still in effect. Sorry, I been absent from Crusade here and there and lost track.

I don't think Nintendo relevancy is really upheld anymore. If it was a good chunk of these threads would be destroyed without question.

I thought the Nintendo Relevancy rule was abolished with the Character Polls, but I guess I don't blame you for wanting to keep GTA out of Crusade. tongue

I didn't say the character has a zero percent chance of being included if they are lacking in Nintendo relevance, it's simply something we look in to.

Indeed, GTA has appeared on the Nintendo handheld as early as the Game Boy Color. However, none of the mainstream protagonist had ever appeared on any of the Nintendo ports of the series. And please, don't be rude by dropping F bombs. Yours truly, a forum admin.

GTA is no doubt a large and popular franchise. According to my brother, San Andreas is also arguably the best installment in the franchise story-wise.

GTA itself does have Nintendo relevancy, as mentioned previously. In my opinion, this opens the doors for any character to be seriously considered, not just ones that have only appeared on Nintendo consoles (because, let's face it, they aren't very memorable). If a character is unique and memorable, I don't see why they shouldn't be seriously considered, and Carl here seems as good a candidate as any. If I remember correctly, there are elements from Metal Gear in Brawl that were never on a Nintendo platform, but I could be wrong.

...That being said, I myself am not a fan of the GTA franchise and I don't think that it should be in Crusade in any way. It originally got popular due to it's controversial nature (akin to Mortal Kombat in a way; I don't think the original game would have been popular otherwise), and has grown from there.

There were plenty and that was the same with Sonic. Since the franchises themselves were in the game, it didn't really matter if said elements from their series weren't on Nintendo consoles as long as the characters were. Personally, I'd prefer to stay with Nintendo relevancy, but I will support characters that never appeared on Nintendo consoles if I like them.

I'm one of those who wouldn't mind seeing something like 4 or more Earthbound or etc. characters in here. So what if people consider a somewhat obscure franchise "overreped". It's a fan made game. Stuff like that can happen and I don't see a problem with it.

I think if it comes down to who the playable character should be, that would be highly debatable.

Imo, I think Claude would be the better choice. The silent protagonist who thrives on destruction which is one essence of the game besides the explicit stuff

Cloud has been on a Nintendo console numerous times, including the 2 Theatrhythm game so that point is moot.

However, Nintendo relevance doesn't matter for at least the character suggestions so no CJ is not a problem in that department.
