PostSubject: Vivec (The Elder Scrolls) Discussion: The Warrior-Poet God of Morrowind   Vivec (The Elder Scrolls) Discussion: The Warrior-Poet God of Morrowind EmptyMon Nov 17, 2014 10:24 am

"It is like being a juggler. Things are always moving, and you learn to know where they are without even thinking about it. Only there are many, many things moving. And sometimes, like any juggler, you drop something. I'm afraid it has become a lot more a matter of dropping things lately. There's too much to do, and not enough time, and I'm losing my touch. Perhaps I'm growing old."
"It is a bit like being at once awake and asleep. Awake, I am here with you, thinking and talking. Asleep, I am very, very busy. Perhaps for other gods, the completely immortal ones, it is only like that being asleep. Out of time. Me, I exist at once inside of time and outside of it."

"It's nice never being dead, too. When I die in the world of time, then I'm completely asleep. I'm very much aware that all I have to do is choose to wake. And I'm alive again. Many times I have very deliberately tried to wait patiently, a very long, long time before choosing to wake up. And no matter how long it feels like I wait, it always appears, when I wake up, that no time has passed at all. That is the god place. The place out of time, where everything is always happening, all at once."

-Vivec on Godhood

Vivec (The Elder Scrolls) Discussion: The Warrior-Poet God of Morrowind Tumblr_m1i6ob6GCS1r9awea

Vivec was once mortal, but after breaking an oath to a friend and using a most powerful artifact, he acquired powers that could rival that of Gods, along with his comrades Almalexia and Sotha Sil. Becoming essentially the leader of the Temple and the State of his people, the dunmer, Vivec is one of most important character of The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, a very highly acclaimed open-world roleplaying game. Vivec not only is one of the most powerful characters but also provides important exposition and is very important to the plot of the game as, what happened between him and his friend and apprentice Nerevar (General of the dunmer in the distant past) is still unclear. At the end of the game, Vivec begins losing his godhood, since that artifact is destroyed. When mentioned in later games, it is revealed that he disappears at one point in history, never to be seen again.

Appearances:

  • The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind
  • Mentioned in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim and Elder Scrolls Online

What does Vivec have to offer?

  • He essentially represents western role playing games, since Morrowind (2002) was a very important point in their evolution, as well as the evolution of modern gaming.
  • He has some very intersting abilities (see moveset).
  • He can be made to use many interesting spells from Morrowind, which had around 8 schools of magic.
  • Can be made to conjure any weapon.
  • Has a city named after him.
  • Voice is no problem, as Vivec does have a little bit of voice acting made for him. For grunts and the like, the generic voice acting for the dunmer can be used, except for the fact that it would have to be modified to sound God-like.

Moveset (obviously W.I.P)

Jab: Marshmerrow, Salt Rice, and Golden Reed
Origin: Hand to Hand combat is possible in morrowind, and it even has its own skill. While another race, the khajjit are known for training in martial arts extensively (they have a bonus for Hand to Hand combat) the game dialogue also mentions 3 dunmer martial art styles: Marshmerrow, Salt Rice, and Golden Reed. Additionally Vivec himself attacks with his fists when not using his spells, if attacked. The effect of the last hit is the combination of 2 destruction spells: Drain Speed and Drain Acrobatics.
Description: Vivec performs a direct punch, a straight gut kick and once he puts his foot down, immediately performs a karate-esque punch. The last punch decreases the opponent's speed and jump height temporarily.

Sideways Tilt: Muatra Stab
Origin: Vivec is described in the lore to use a named spear Muatra (Milk-Talker). This spear is said to have been given to Vivec by being associated and "married" with a specific deity. He later used the spear to kill numerous monsters that were born from this bond and just before his disappearance, he used it to banish the deity Azura as an act of revenge. Muatra is both a physical spear but also a metaphorical one, and it represents Vivec's love/genitals. Muatra is described as a bone-spear.
Description: Vivec summons Muatra and stabs forward putting his body into the motion. It boasts great range and is a keep-away move.

Upwards Tilt: Keen Slicer
Origin: Keening, a unique weapon in The Elder Scrolls universe, is a powerful object used to handle the heart of lorkhan much like Sunder. Keening provides numerous buffs and deals fire damage, like Sunder.
Description: Vivec draws Keening and performs a graceful, diagonal cut that has a rising motion. Deals fire damage.

Downwards Tilt: Weakness to Fire
Origin: Weakness to Fire is spell that belongs in the magical school of destruction. It reduces the opponent's resistance to fire.
Description: Vivec performs a low block-kick aiming for the opponent's calf. If it hits, the opponent is engulfed in a red aura for a short time, indicating that the opponent will recieve from damage/knockback from moves with fire (Sunder Smash, Wrath of Vivec etc)

Sideways Smash: Sunder Smash
Origin: Sunder is one of the 3 required items in order to handle the heart of lorkhan, the artifact that made Vivec a god. Vivec and his comrades were into possesion of the 3 objects and used them to replenish their divine power by handling the heart of lorkhan. This changed when Dagoth Ur, a person affected by the Heart of Lorkhan in a similar way, and assigned responsible for it by Nerevar himself, ambushed the 3 gods with his minnions and took 2 of them. Sunder itself is an extremely powerful one-handed mace that provides numerous buffs and deals Fire Damage.
Description: Vivec draws Sunder, and performs a powerful crushing blow with it. It deals fire damage.

Downwards Smash: Muatra Garden
Origin: This move is admitedly sakurai'd, although I think it really fits Vivec.
Description: Vivec palm strikes the ground beneath him and as he does, 3 rows of Muatra sprout from the ground left and right to him like flowers. The muatra manifestations are diagonal with those closer to Vivec being longer than those further away from him. These manifestations remain in their position for 3-5 seconds, or untill Vivec uses another move that includes Muatra.

Neutral Aerial: Paralyze
Origin: Paralyze is a spell from the school of Illusion. It makes the target immobile for the duration of the spell.
Description: Vivec extends his limbs outward, and they are engulfed in a green aura. Opponents that come in contact with this move recieve minimal damage and knockback, but suffer tremendous hitstun.

Forward Aerial: Burden
Origin: Burden is an alteration spell which increases the target's encumbrance. It can be useful as, if the encumbrance level becomes too high the target can only move if it drops items for its inventory.
Description: Vivec draws Sunder and performs a powerful downwards strike. Upon hit, a purple aura engulfs the opponent and his/her fall speed is increased for a short while.

Grab: Telekinesis
Origin: Telekinesis is spell that belongs in the school of mysticism. It allows the user to interact with objects (open containers, doors and get items) from a distance.
Description: Vivec points his hand at the opponent, and grabs them.

Forward Throw
Description: Vivec pulls the opponent to himself, stabbing them with Keening. Then, while keening is inside the opponent, Vivec draws it out violently by pushing his foot against the body of the opponent, causing knockback.

Backwards Throw
Description: Vivec pulls the opponent to himself, stabbing them with Muatra. Then, he slams the impaled enemy to the ground behind him.

Down Throw
Description: Vivec pulls the opponent to himself, and as he does, he jumps towards the opponent slamming him/her down to the ground with Sunder.

Neutral Special: Wrath of Vivec
Origin: One of Vivec's spells. This powerful attack decreases the opponent's health without directly (no elemental damage )and causes fire, frost and shock damage at the same time. There also exists a close combat version, Hands of Vivec, which is more powerful. Although this spell contains the Damage Health effect (direct damage) I think using Drain Health (temporal damage) is more interesting.
Description: Vivec assumes the spellcasting stance from Morrowind and casts the spell. It is a red Projectile that travels a straight line with moderate speed. If it connects, it causes damage (with fire, frost and shock effects) and after the damage is applied, the opponent's damage is multipled by 1.5, only to revert back to its original value after a while. The Smash B Version is the Hands of Vivec, which uses the same animation, has a very short range, but is much more powerful and lasts longer. This attack causes opponents to flinch, but delivers no knockback.

Sideways Special: Suspend
Origin: In the lore of The Elder Scrolls games, it is said that when Sheogorath (a deity of the series) attempted to destroy the City of Vivec (named after him) with a meteor, Vivec simply rose his hand pointing at the meteor with his palm and caused it to stop moving and remain suspended on the air. This meteor (Baar Dau) became the Ministry of Truth, an inescapeable prison and can be visited in the game (with levitation spells).
Description: Vivec points with his palm, arm extended into a 45 degree angle upwards. This move has a moderate range and can only affect opponents in the air. If an opponent is caught in the hitbox, he/she remains on the air suspended for a short while, allowing Vivec to follow up with another attack. It can also work on projectiles, and they'll damage anyone (even the originator) that comes into contact with them. There's a 20% chance that Vivec will say "I won't let you do that".

Upwards Special: Levitation
Origin: Leviatetion is an alteration spell that one can cast to himself or others. It is very useful because it enables to fly, allowing you to better explore the world of Morrowind, evade combat or travel more efficiently.
Description: Vivec cast levitation. While levitation is in effect, Vivec can move up and down freely as if he was flying (his walking animation plays). He cannot jump, but he can perform all moves he would normally be able to on the ground (even grab + down throw!).

Downwards Special: Summon Greater Bonewalker
Origin: A conjuration spell that summons a Bonewalker. Bonewalkers are similar to zombies, expect that they tend to have bone extruding from various areas on their body. These undead cast magic of their own, in order to damage the strength of their opponents.
Description: Vivec summons a Greater Bonewalker. It follows Vivec around, and has 2 attacks: It strikes with a melee attack adjacent opponents and it throws a magical projectile against far-away opponents. The projectile causes no knockback, damage or flinch, but significantly lowers the knockback and damage output of the target.

OR

Downwards Special: Sanctuary
Origin: An illusion spell that increases the chance the caster will evade attacks.
Description: Vivec casts Sanctuary. It decreases the size of his hurtbox, making him harder to hit.

Never played an Elder Scrolls game, but I know how popular they are (particularly Skyrim).

You've made a very good introduction - telling us who he is and very clearly defining what would make him a good representative. A western RPG rep with magic and a spear? Sounds good to me.

Though... I need to see a full moveset first. You only supplied 2 (3?) moves. A spell that amplifies damage on an opponent is a neat effect, but how do you perform a smash B with a neutral special? Suspend sounds interesting, but I'm not sure how well it would work if he is in midair... it might be more suited as a unique grab, where instead of throws, he just stops someone in midair.
EDIT: Noticed that you added the ability to stop projectiles. That makes it more special-like... it could work.

Would be fun and cool to play as a god, and his special moves so far are definitely unique and cool. Complete lack of nintendo relevance is a bit deterring though.

Still, excited to see more moveset.

Added a special, as well as side tilt.

@Roy

Thanks! To be honest, I was mistaken. Vivec doesn't wield a spear (not sure if he ever did, either) but he should be able to summon any weapon possible.

Smash B is EX Hadouken, essentially.

@PerfectHell

Thanks! More is coming.

EDIT: Added a couple of more moves.

Also it turns out that Vivec does wield a spear, Muatra, although it could be very well a metaphorical "spear".

Nice.
In side smash, you used italics instead of underlines. Actually made it harder to find sections.

Looking good. I'm really surprised how much thought is going into this, and it really shows.

I'd put the tilts above the smashes - reading it, I didn't know what "Muatra" was in his down smash until I got to his side tilt.

This up special is almost identical to SP's Shantae, and the same problem arises. I think you should allow pressing B to go into a (lowered gravity in air) mode where you can move a marker around, and pressing B places the marker. Then up B once it is already out warps you to it. I dont believe an up special should ever simply do nothing, it's unintuitive especially to a new player. This allows you to at least have a chance of recovering if you get knocked off-stage without planning ahead. However, because you have to place the mark while recovering, you telegraph your reappearance and the opponent can easily punish this. This makes it preferable to place the mark ahead of time. Also the uses for this in combos and stuff on-stage is pretty awesome to think about.

Added grab and throws as well as up special (although that was a while ago)

I like your idea.

What if Vivec, instead of aiming, threw a projectile diagonally down that marked the portion of the stage it collided with?

Diagonally down? How would he be able to use that in recovery if he didnt previously set one up?

Maybe you misunderstood me, or I misunderstood you. Basically I'm proposing that if Vivec hasn't marked a location in the air, his up b (in the air) has him shooting a marking projectile diagonally down.

I still dont get why it's diagonally down. If you're off-stage and need to recover, generally you need to go diagonally up.

However, a diagonal up movement would make the projectile mark, at best, the side wall of the stage, making it unfit to recall to.

This is why i prefer the controllable mark placement. Diagonal down isnt much of a solution either, because it's extremely rare that that will actually land on the stage. In most cases you're just shooting down towards the bottom blast line, or at best again a wall.

Ok so here's an idea I've had. In the air, instead of Vivec casting a marking projectile, we can have him throw his spear in an arc and teleport to it IF it lands on a platform.

Hm... I guess it works. Not sure if the mark feature even needs to be included, then. Seems weird to me to have 2 functionally different recovery moves both attributed to up special...

By the way, what is Keening? It's mentioned in a throw but I don't know what it is. I'm assuming it's some kind of sword... Also, is he ever going to have any fire outside of Sunder and his neutral special?

-It would be somewthat awkward. The only way I would personally include it would be because casting mark on the stage would be really difficult and impractical. The spear throw recovery should be lackluster, since we want to promote using Mark and Recall.

-Keening is a short sword and is one of the items required to handle the heart of lorkhan, much like Sunder. So apparently I also forgot to mention that forward throw also causes fire damage. I'm also thinking of including Keening in up tilt (again, fire damage).

Ok guys, I've thought of the following idea for Up Special.

Levitation

Vivec begines leviating. While he does, his walking animations are played and moves around with walking speed, He also uses his tilts and smashes.
