Marth would be #1 in tier lists if he had a better up B. Other than that, he's perfect. He's an extremely aggressive character which can cause a lot of damage to you and has tons of launch power, with or without tipper. His up throw can kill between 80~ (Jigglypuff) and 140~ (Fox) on Final Destination, which is quite low compared to Sm4sh. His air combos are practically the 2nd best out of the whole roster. (1st being Saki imo) However, his counter is useless. But then again, all counters are useless in this game.
Countering a Super Falcon Punch only does less than 10% for all characters. WHY?

I do believe the counter is supposed to be similar to melee, in which the counter always does a set 7% iirc.

Hmm...if that's the case, then it would be nice to see maybe a combination of the Melee counter and the newer counter, where the damage depends on the attacks, but the minimum damage is still 7% That would be a good case of "best of both worlds".

Vertical KO moves in general will be nerfed in 0.9.1, so that Up Throw should KO at higher percents. It was unintentional for it to be that powerful.
I agree, Marth is very strong currently. However, what is it about counters that makes them useless?

In short, counters are more risk than reward.
It has a long duration, which means you will most likely fall to your death if you are in the air and if your character has a terrible recovery. It's very punishable and it doesn't even have kill potential. I just tested it on Bowser (Middle of FD) before I typed this and he did not get killed even at 300%. The only good thing about it is that it doesn't damage you unlike Pichu's endure/down b (or at least I think that's what it's called)

As far as competitive play goes, I think counters have always been rather gimmicky since a single predicted counter can result in a low percent stock loss.

Counters were supossed to be moves that punish reckless attacking, though.

In early Melee, Ken's use of Marth's counter created an interesting way of edge-guarding characters with offensive recoveries that don't have as permissive of a ledge-grab box such as the spacies or Mario, etc. That's what I think of when I think of counter usage.

This wouldn't exactly work in crusade do to auto ledge snap.

I don't think it's nearly that extreme, I'd rather have a Melee counter than a nonexistent one. All I'd say is just to buff the knockback growth, dependent on the opponent's attack if possible.

I think some counters in the game, like Peach's and Lucario's, definitely had some scaling depending on damage. Not sure why Marth's wouldn't.

Yes, but at least ZSS looks and acts like ZSS. Marth just kind of looks confused and bewildered half of the time. Like Rock Lee's brother on speed, mixed with Gintoki. And that win pose...
