Just wanted to introduce myself a bit, since I plan on being around. However, some of you may already know me from Smashboards, most notably from the PM community.
I live in Jax, Florida, and I just started traveling and seriously practicing melee. I am a junior in college studying comp sci. My inspiration for trying to join the community here is simple: I was going to start building a game with a few friends, based on the smash bros world. When I realized that crusade is already a solid game and has a solid following, I realized it might be smarter to just get acquainted with the user base and dev team, and over time try to join them.
Well anyways, good to be here. Hope to make some friends.

yo~
if you'd want to join the team, you'll need to have some skills. What kind of skills do you have?

Ah, I'm a programmer. I forgot to say that. I've also got an arguably decent handle on music. Been playing guitar for years, got some skill with piano, and, most recently, I've been working with dubstep. If nothing else I could make sound effects pretty easily in FL studio. Here's a link to my soundcloud profile where I put my dubstep: https://soundcloud.com/dubforce-tyler-tracey
I'd like to help with programming though. I'm a junior in my comp sci track at UNF in northern florida. I've got a tiny bit of game development under my belt, mostly with friends. If you have any questions about specific programming things, such as languages/concepts I'd be glad to answer them.
Also, I'd like to note that I don't expect to be welcomed with open arms because I just showed up and said hi. If you want me to do some small projects to show my skill I'd be more than happy to. I probably won't be getting anything done until I move back into the dorm, maybe thursday next week.

Hi, welcome to the forum.
The guy in charge of things around here is Jaklub; you're probably best off trying to catch him on our chatbox, which is at the bottom of our homepage. As you yourself know, you're not going to be thrown into our coding group straight away, but I'm sure we can come up with things for you to try out or do, and in the long term you could very well reach your goal

I think the thing I'm most interested in right now is input/physics (meaning if I ever were to join the team those are the things I would want to start with). Not that I don't love this game, because I obviously do if I'm here, but I think there are some things which need fixing/tweaking. Most of these things are certain inputs doing certain things at certain times, and just overall adding more of an analytic buffer to the inputs (I am definitely not just trying to sound fancy, I just couldn't think of a better way to phrase that). What I mean is that inputs should be a bit more streamlined and sometimes they should be more reserved.
For instance, holding the attack button will cause the next attack to come out on the first frame (Or so it seems) possible, whereas I feel like its just more solid mechanically to force the player to press the button again.
I'd also really like to work on an Xbox controller driver for the game. That way, rather than the game taking in keyboard inputs and players with controllers being forced to emulate the keyboard with their controller (which makes using the sticks terrible), I'd like to implement a driver that take in xbox controller input, and if the user is using a keyboard then the keyboard will act as an emulated controller rather than the other way around.
I'm rambling, bye.

Welcome to the forum.
I am one of the Main Devs and also one of the Admins. If you have any questions, feel free to ask away.
Also, to get more connected with the locals in this community, I would strongly recommend visiting the chatbox since almost all the active forum members are usually lounging over there throughout the day.
Enjoy your stay

Okay I will. I went there once and didn't see anyone, but I'll make sure to get over there.

Interesting that you feel that way. I personally like how there's no forced press for things such as interrupts and l-cancels. In Melee there was a lot of emphasis on knowing frame data for end lag, etc. Here you just need to know what you want to do next, hold the relevant buttons and you'll automatically do it. It does make the game easier, although of course none of the hitbox accuracy or reflex aspects of the game are lost.

The reason I think it could use some tweaking is not to make it harder. In fact, I definitely prefer the fluidity. PM is way better than Melee for inputs IMO. But that has to do with buffer, something that could be added. I'm mainly worried about the input being TOO fluid. Attacks coming out that were not intended, falling through platforms after a waveland unintentionally, etc.

I disagree with your type of "music" there, user Dubforce. I believe that real music only uses guitars and drums and REAL instruments. Did The Beatles ever drop the bass? Did Pink Floyd? I didn't think so. Your devil's music is not welcome here. Return to the fiery pit from whence you came. Begone.
