PostSubject: The Golden Magikarp X/Y Tourney   Wed Nov 06, 2013 4:36 am

I'm hosting the first Pokémon X and Y tourney on this site, the rules are as follows.

What we can use.
- We will be using Smogon Banlists according to B/W rules, this is because the tiers for X/Y haven't yet been properly defined, it is our best bet. http://www.smogon.com/bw/banlist/
- In addition to Smogon, Xerneas, Yveltal and Zygarde are also banned from this tourney.
- Any Pokémon in the Tier List OU and under are eligible for this tourney, in addition to all non-legendary Gen VI Pokémon.

How the rounds work.
- I will be using the Bracket Generator at Challonge.com to determine who fights who, I will be using randomised seeds.
- Once fights have been chosen, then you will have three days to fight.
- If your partner is not available to fight, you will win.
- If both of you are unavailable, but can give a good reason why you should continue, a coin will be flipped by me.

THE PRIZE

The Prize for the victor in this Tourney will be a 100% legit, caught by me Shiny Magikarp, I will rename it to whatever the winner wants too.

Sign-ups run from November 6th to November 13th, there will be no limit to entrants.

The Entrants
1. Ganonthegreat (3780-9005-2627)
2. AEM (0173-1291-6111)

How are you gonna enforce things like sleep clause and evasion clause? And if you're not, then you need a different banlist, because some Pokemon end up broken without those clauses.

To be honest, I'm not entierely sure about this stuff, I figured just following Smogon would be alright. Mind explaining to me what the Sleep and Evasion Clauses are?

http://www.smogon.com/bw/banlist/

Evasion clause means you can't use moves like double team or minimize, its for the sanity of everyone involved

Sleep clause I think means you can put more than 1 pokemon on the opponents team asleep (and you weren't forced to), makes things like spore or compoundeyes sleep powder not as evil, and iirc its only moves you use to put them to sleep so stuff like rest is ignored

Well that's covered in what I linked, so that should be fine.

Does sleep clause apply for the whole battle (e.g. once you put something to sleep you can't use sleep moves for the rest of the battle), or does it reset once the pokemon has fainted (e.g. your opponent can only have one pokemon asleep at any given time outside of rest etc)? If the pokemon wakes up, can you put it back to sleep (further clarification on only one pokemon at a time or only one sleep move per battle)?

Also how will the tournament be run? Matches over a number of days/weeks or all on a single day? I won't sign up unless it's all in one go, since otherwise it'll probably overlap with me getting my wisdom teeth out.

Well I was planning on a week or sign-ups, followed by knockout rounds, with a new wave starting every three days. It seemed fairest with the different timezones.

As for the Sleep Clause, I think it would be fair that you can only send one Pokémon to sleep at any time. If that Pokémon wakes up, then you should be free to send a different one to sleep.

What Ganon said.

And there are a load of other rules out there too, I was hoping you'd look them up too.

Most places I think put Brightpowder and other evasion items into Evasion Clause, so basically they're also banned. Sand Veil and equivalents aren't, as they need special activation. Accuracy-lowerers aren't banned, as you can easily switch.

Sleep clause also applies to attacks that have a chance to send to sleep. Same with freeze clause, which also exists. There's unfortunately no way to enforce this one, other than people not using sleep/freeze inducing moves after someone's already asleep/frozen. The clauses don't overlap, so you can send someone to sleep, then freeze someone else. Paralysis, poison and burn can be used on everyone.

Species clause prevents more than one of the same Pokemon. I'm pretty sure that's also a prerequisite in Wi-Fi battles anyway though, so that's fine.

Item clause isn't a standard, but some people play with it and in fact it might be now. It obviously didn't apply in gen 3, when the only viable items were Leftovers, Lum Berry and occasionally a Choice Band or pinch berry, but since there are a ton of usable items now that might become the standard.

There's also a OHKO clause. Should be self-explanatory; no Fissure, Sheer Cold, Horn Drill or Guillotine. Not that those moves are actually useful or anything, people just want to eliminate luck as much as possible.

And finally there's a vague "hax clause" that some people play with, which is basically no Haxrachi/kiss and no Parafusion. The former is basically Serene Grace + 30% flinch chance move, which you get on Jirachi, Togekiss and some others. The latter is using confusion in conjunction with paralysis, and occasionally also with Attract. Seen on Pokemon like Raichu and Lanturn, but somewhat rarely in OU.

And here I wish I had trained up my pokemon. I'll definitely be entering the next tournament. Implying you'll host one.

If this is a success there should be no reason not to host another.

Also come on guys, really for this tourney I want at least 8 members, and we only have two so far.

Is this tourney being played on X/Y or are we using Pokemon Online/Pokemon Showdown? I'd love to enter but I currently only have two badges in Y and haven't been EV training at all. In PO I have several fully functional teams that meet the rules put forth for this tourney.

Det: Awesome, just need your FC and I'll add you.

So then Ganon, what becomes of this? I'd say we're a bit past the sign in date and it's just the two of us.

Yeah, I think I have to postpone it, I think we really need to wait a bit longer before we try something like this, for others to build teams.

It's postponed at the moment, I don't know when I'll restart it to be honest.

I mean, if you really wanted to do one, I could probably help (if you wanted to host on Showdown). More people would be able to participate in that since they don't have to actually buy a 3DS/2DS or the game.

Last I heard, they didn't have access to Pokémon from X and Y. Which is what I thought the entire point of this competition was.

Oh, no it's all updated now. They're just figuring out tiers and stuff. I think it's just a few egg moves here and there that are missing since people can't hack previous gen pokes yet.

There are some signs that Pokémon Bank will be released tomorrow, if that's the case, how many people would be interested in this being kickstarted?

If I kick this up again, how many people would want to take part? I have a large roster of Shinies now so I can probably offer something that isn't a Fishing Shiny as the reward.

You've already had half a year, and somebody from scratch can build a respectable team in a couple of weeks.

Again, I'd love to participate but I don't really have time to breed and train a well-put-together team. If we use Pokemon Online or Pokemon Showdown, however, then I'm totally in.

You're not taking into account that I only occassionally take the time to breed completely random pokemon, and that I enjoy reseting my game for the hell of it

I am almost done with like my 10th or 11th runthrough by now

Depending on how many people want in, I would expect it to be in a few weeks, no sooner than a fortnight.

No team is perfect, some good IVs but nothing extreme, I always imagined this as a fun thing to do with your PokePals.
