Project "Nintendo VS Capcom" (Fan-Game) Empty
PostSubject: Project "Nintendo VS Capcom" (Fan-Game)   Project "Nintendo VS Capcom" (Fan-Game) EmptyTue Dec 06, 2011 3:34 pm

I posted it twice already. Why not a third time? Razz
Anyway...

Hello everyone.
I originally intended to post this on smashboards.
But to be sure, I decided to share this with a smaller community first.

Either way, I am aware that I may not be the only one with the concept.
But I am actually trying to get this done. No matter how long it takes. Very Happy

However, I am a WRITER. And I can only do so much.
Much to everyone else's dismay... Sad
So I am currently looking for some people to work with.

BASIC INFO
This game will have the 2v2-gameplay first.
However, I do intend for it to have the 3v3-gameplay with Assist Types in the final version.
But 2v2 with one set assist should be enough for the start.
It does have the button-layout of MvC3 (L, M, H, S, P or P1/P2 for 3v3)
It does have every action from "Tatsunoko VS Capcom", including "Crossover Air Raid" and "Mega Crash".

It also will have a "Normal Mode" with the regular SF-style controls and an "Easy Mode" with a more "Smash Bros" oriented control style.
The "Auto Block" option also returns from "X:COTA", "MSH" and "XvsSF".
A "Semi-Auto Block" option will also be there, where you still have the block manually, but the character automatically crouches or stands up depending on the incoming attack.

I do aim to give every character a personal theme that will start playing, once the characters tags in due a knockout.
Ideally I would also like if both stages and characters have set themes.
And the player may choose what he'd like.

As for the design: I would like it to be in the style of the early VS-games. (XvsSF, MSHvsSF, MvC)
No Chibi's!
But I do give everyone a lot of freedom as to how they want to design the characters.
So there will be enough of a surprise for me as well. Razz

As for the ROSTER:

Those characters are currently planned.
(But it's not clear whether all of them will appear in the Final Version).

If you need more info, I have posted EVERY BIT of info I ever wrote in a thread in my forums.
You can find it HERE!
If that still isn't enough, then feel free to tell me.

I really hope I can find some people to work with and make this fan-game a reality.
If a Smash Bros fan-game can work so well (referring to Smash Bros Crusade) then I am sure a fan-made VS-game can do as well.

Very Happy

If this isn't cyberwolf, I'm afraid you've been beaten to the punch, as he's already working on a similar project.

Also, do you have control over the roster? If so, I would like to "fix" it if I may, as quite a few characters make no sense at all.

Dr. MarioX and I had been talking about doing a project like this for a while, so we'd be interested in helping. Over the holiday break I think I'll have time to sit down and get an engine going for this type of game (of course, between working on SSBC Wink).

Fair enough.

Thanks a lot. And good luck. Very Happy

So then, here are the links to my moveset-list.
For those who haven't seen it already.
(I was forced to split it into two parts, due DA's stupid 64KB limit. >.<)
Part 1
Part 2

Tell me what you think. And if anything is off, feel free to tell. Very Happy

King Hippo is more popular than Macho Man, JSYK. (Not saying to switch, but merely responding to your statement that Macho Man is the most popular. SMM is merely the most Memetic)

Also needs more Mike Haggar and Phoenix Wright on the Capcom side as well as Pit on the Nintendo side.

Makoto is a bit of an odd choice for a SF character

As is Maki. I mean, she's from Final Fight, and even then, she was only in Final Fight 2.
And she was only in one Street Fighter, if I remember correctly.

Hmm, I always thought SMM was more popular. At least on the places I visited so far, he seems to be the most popular one.
With King Hippo being second.

But oh well...

I think Haggar was featured in enough VS-games for now.
As for Phoenix: Sorry, but I don't like him being a fighter. Given that he is a lawyer with no fighting experience whatsoever.
IMO it was a mistake to add him to the roster of UMVC3.

Mr. Grinch wrote:

And why? Only because they aren't characters you see everywhere?

Makoto IMO is the best Street Fighter character.
Since she PURE Street Fighter. No cheap tricks, no chi use.
Just using bodily abilities.

As for Maki: I also don't get why she shouldn't be here.
Yes, she only appeared in one of the Final Fight's.
And yet Capcom brought her into Street Fighter. (Totally messing up her character in the process...)
I would like to feature her original FF2 persona here.

Another choice for the Final Fight spot would've been LUCIA from FF3.
But I couldn't come up with a good moveset yet.

I would like to feature some obscure, less known characters in this game.
Since they too deserve some love. (Like Shantae or the original Giygas)
And IMO there is no harm done in doing that.
Unless they are too minor, unoriginal or just stupid.

So by Haggar being in one Vs. title, that's enough? MvC3 and UMvC3 are pretty much the same game, just UMvC3 being an updated version. While tired out characters like Felicia are fine?

I can respect your opinion on Wright, so I'll leave it there. (although, you have a Trainer as a character, and they don't fight; their Pokemon do...)

Also, the TRUE Street Fighter is Cody. I don't know where you got your definition of "Street Fighting", but it's really all about dirty tricks that would clearly be against traditional fighting rules. (As in, there are no rules in street fighting. Have a knife? Use it. Need to use a rock to bash in your enemy's head? Go for it. It's kill or be killed.)

Makoto would be the traditonal martial artist of the series, considering there are other characters with a different style of fighting that isn't cheap tactics or energy blasts (Zangief with Russian Wrestling, E. Honda with Sumo Wrestling, etc.).

As for Maki, there is a better choice if not Haggar or Cody. Guy. He's appeared in Final Fight and Final Fight 3, as well as more Street Fighter titles than Maki. Not only that, but he's a ninja like Maki.

I can understand wanting to include more obscure characters, but you can't exclude choices that better represent the series that character comes from as a result.

EDIT: Also, hate to break it to you, but Capcom doesn't own Shantae. Her game was just published by Capcom. WayForward Technologies owns her. She's as much a Capcom character as Scrooge McDuck.

EDIT2: Your Nintendo Roster could also use some more "obscure" characters. (Just 2 aren't enough) How about Sukapon? He was from Nintendo's first fighting game. Shake King is another choice. He's a new Wario character, and he's obscure to the point that the only reason people know about him here is because of me.

He was also in Namco X Capcom.
(Yes, I know. It's more of an RPG, but still...)

I know that. Which is why I picked a Trainer, who can fight on her own.
(At least it's implied that she can.)

That's one way to see it.
But I see it in a different way.

True. I did consider him tbh.
Wasn't too sure though...

I am not too sure about that. Yes. Maybe it would be better.
But IMO as long as a character does have a decent role in a game, he or she might be a worthy candidate.
Yes, it might be stupid to leave out more important characters for majo franchises.
But for minor ones, it's less of an issue, if you ask me.
(And yet Capcom dropped Megaman in favor of Zero and Tron Bonne. nuff said)

Capcom was involved in her first game. That should qualify her for a fan-game at least.
At least, in my opinion.

Amaterasu isn't actually a Capcom char either if you see it that way and yet she still made in MvC3.
(Copyrights and stuff aside...)

Don't tell me you're one of those people that feels that females need to be shoehorned into fighting games because they're female.....
Best bet here would be to swap this Original Character with Solana, a Pokemon Ranger (who is female, if that's what you want). Rangers get into the action unlike Trainers, and call upon various Pokemon to assist them. Sounds like it's in your alley.

To believe otherwise is a delusion.
And again, Makoto is a traditional martial artist, not a street fighter. I have no problem with Makoto, but don't give false reasoning for her.

Was it those two lumps hanging from the front of Maki that made you say otherwise?

Final Fight isn't a minor series, though. It's responsible for taking the arcade by storm.

At least, in my opinion.
Then add Scrooge McDuck. He's obscure, comes from a game Capcom worked on, and said game is very popular. And while you're at it, add Ken Griffey, Jr. on Nintendo's side.

Quote :

Amaterasu isn't actually a Capcom char either if you see it that way and yet she still made in MvC3.

No. Saying Amaterasu isn't a Capcom character is like saying Pikachu isn't a Nintendo character. Clover was owned by Capcom. Therefore, it's series (Viewtiful Joe, Okami, and God Hand), were always Capcom properties. When Clover went out of business, their properties became 100% owned by Capcom as a result. Likewise, if GameFreak were to go out of business, Pokemon would be 100% Nintendo owned.

Shantae is comparable to Professor Layton. Nintendo doesn't own Level 5, but they have published Level 5's Professor Layton series.
And before you state that "but he can't fight, like Wright", that's false. In his games, he has fenced, and used various elaborate contraptions to attack, such as the coin machine gun.
