If he was playable they'd give the "Challenger approaching" thing, Sakurai made this very clear with Skull Kid Razz

Glad to see Starfy back! He was always my favourite because you could beat the crap outta him, yet he was also an assist trophy! How great!

YES! She kept her Twilight design! Very Happy

The Skyward Sword version made her look bummy as hell. lol.

Also, did you guys notice the Phantom Knight that appears to be attacking Link? I wonder if its part of her moveset or assist trophy.

It has the colors of Phantom Zelda minus the glowing pink eyes.

I think she summons it. It either replaces Din's Fire or *gulp* Sheik.

this might be overthinking it, but i highly doubt this knight is part of her moveset.

1. not a smash attack. the idea of Zelda summoning a massive knight for lets say side smash visually looks odd. Having such a large figure appear in general in her moveset gives that OP impression, even for Zelda's standards, imo.

2. removing signature traits. i dont think removing farore's wind, nayru's love, or din's fire would be beneficial as they each represent each part of the triforce in her moveset. the whole Zelda\Sheik gimmick is something she innovated in the smash series. i doubt any moveset changes will be donen favor for a unoriginal, meaningless attack like summoning a massive knight.

3. poses. looking at her pics, it looks like she is either taunting or jabbing in the knight picture. if she summoned such a massive thing, shouldnt we have seen some magical, special effects. even if those effected faded prior to attacking Link in the pic, Zelda seems like she is taunting or jabbing in the photo.

just my thoughts on it. so i say assist trophy at most.

Your comparing rocket launcher built to rest on a man's shoulder to an armored being twice Zelda's size. I can understand a final smash, but something like a smash attack in which can be abused as much as a player wants, I highly doubt it.

The Phantom Soldiers never appeared in any games but the Toon Link games as far as Zelda goes, so Zelda using one to attack would just be totally nuts.

It's either an Assist, which is the most likely imo, or perhaps, much less likely, Toon Zelda possessing the Phantom Soldier is a character. (Maybe like a Zelda/Shiek thing)

I find the lack of Sheik in this update a little worrying, but it's still good to see the Twilight Princess version of Zelda back at least.

Shiek was one of the characters I was worried about the most, mainly because I wasn't sure if the 3DS would be able to cope with sudden character changes, same with Red (Who is probably the character I'm most concerned about)


To me, it does look like the Phantom is part of Zelda's moveset, mainly because if he was an Assist Trophy, he would be in the style of Toon Link. It's slightly tricky to tell given the minimalism on the Phantom anyway, but I do think it fits Zelda more than T.Link.

If you guys played Spirit Tracks, Zelda could turn into a Phantom Knight to help you, and the colours of this one like the same as Phantom Zelda. I think it's part of her moveset honestly, it worries me though because Sheik has not been shown, perhaps the Phantom is a special move, and may actually replace Sheik. Perhaps Zelda will summon the Phantom Knight with Down Special, just a guess but I don't think it's an assist trophy at all... Just my guess though!

From what we can see here I think this is unfortunately the most likely conclusion. IMO if it's true then it was the 3DS restrictions that killed Sheik.

notice how she has the exact same pose in the second and ninth images, but the ninth image is missing the phantom knight

also phantom knight is related to a different zelda so it basically has to be an AT

Sheik was related to Ocarina Zelda, so that argument is invalid.

Anyway that would work with Link, as any extra feature from Waker, Hourglass or Tracks could just be incorporated into Toon Link. Zelda doesn't have this luxury assuming they don't plan to make Toon Zelda. If for any reason Sheik cannot work in the 3DS game they would be forced to either remove it or completely separate it from Zelda. It makes sense to me that they would add a homage to Tracks in it's place because it is arguably Zelda's largest part in any LoZ game.

sheik was still given an updated tp design though

also you're still ignoring the fact that literally the same frame is used in two pictures

Not exactly the same frame. Same animation, yes, but not the same frame (Look at the elbow angle).

IF they want to make it work, it has to be a la Yugi from JSS/JUS, so it would have to appear and immediately attack. That would mean that there is some time where she initiate the movement, but the Phantom Kinght doesn't actually appears after a small delay. I think the frame gap  between those two pics is large enough for this to happen, but we can't say for sure until we see it in action.

EDIT : I love how they upgraded Zelda's desing. And I like her 6th pic OMG it looks like Rosalina is gonna spank Zelda XD

Zelda and Sheik were reintroduced to the Smash series in Brawl separately on the Dojo, so its no surprise that this is the same case here.

Also, it is possible that the 2 pics Det presented have Zelda doing the same animation. Perhaps the 1st one is the early frames of the animation while the 2nd pic is the latter part of the animation.

Plus, if the animation on the 1st pic is suppose to summon/control the Phantom Knight, then why isn't the Knight visible in front of her on the 2nd pic?

I honestly don't think the 3DS will limit the Zelda/Sheik gimmick. I'm no programmer, but with all the content we are getting for both version, 3DS, and out of Olimar & Rosalina, I don't think Zelda/Sheik will be a massive problem.

Well, as Kiddragon says, it could just be one of the frames that doesn't have the knight. Startup or end lag. I still don't think smash attack is out of the question for Phantom Knight; size didn't stop ridiculously large moves like Lucas' usmash, or ZSS' fsmash and usmash.

Assist trophy would be cool too. I'm just hoping against hope that Sheik doesn't get cut...

I think we'll be seeing more of this Phantom Knight tomorrow, we'll see what it is most likely. I hope. Until then, let's just say it's either part of Zelda's new moveset, or it's an assist trophy

So far, in a 6 month period, we got 20 characters confirmed.

16 veterans & 4 newcomers.

I have a feeling that with such quick progress, we might be seeing SSB4 in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2014 the earliest.
