I agree with moats.

"Reduce some characters to a degree" sounds more like reducing the quality of their models, which is obviously understandable.

if he had said "Reduce the number of characters to a degree", then yes, that would mean he was getting rid of characters.

Yet he said "to include as many characters as possible" which directly implies they cannot include all of them, therefore we can expect cuts.  It's not like this is unusual for smash, 4 characters were cut from Melee to Brawl.

Not saying there won't be cuts, but his wording seem to imply something else due to what he said right before it. It's all in one sentence, which is why they are both bolded in my post. If he did mean cuts, then it conflicts to what he said in the first bold.

The Wii U is not being held back by the 3DS in terms of characters. Both can have a large roster just fine. The 3DS can fit Brawl on one cartridge, but the quality would have to be severely reduced to make it work.

Memory not the issue, ram is. The processing power of the 3DS facing some challenges in terms of how to accommodate characters that incorporate more than one fighter, such as the Ice Climbers. According to him, that is the main issue. He's thinking about reducing the quality of those specific characters. Which is why he said the 3DS version may be released afterwards. Another reason as to why the 3DS version is getting different stages, processing power.

Think Tekken, Dead or Alive, Street Fighter IV, etc. They all had to do the same thing.

Hell, even the GBA version of Street Fighter Alpha 3. Gameplay down to a tee, "perfect" controls, and even more characters, but the quality was insanely reduced. But even then, it was held in high regard by even the pros. Unlike the PSP version where the controls actually brought it down.

If it does mean that characters have to be limited in what they can do, it probably means that things like the Samus transformation, Olimar's Pikmin and Pit's FS will have to be altered in some way, rather than full removal of the character.

Also, the new daily picture shows Samus with different colour lights, but not different enough to be a full new skin. Take from what what you will.

Also i wonder why they did not put Yoshi ( Original 8 ) in the trailer because 7/8 are in but not Yoshi the other 4 ( Ness,Captain Falcon,Jigglypuff,Luigi ) are unlockables that could be the reason why they are not in the Trailer but Yoshi always was a starter i hope they will not cut him .

Looking at the Developer's Direct we can determine what some of the character changes are for a couple of the characters and what some of the moves are for the three new ones.
Bowser:

Pit:

Villager:

Mega Man:

Wii Fit Trainer:

Overall this game is looking great and I can't wait for more information in the coming months and weeks. I just hoped that the Website was more like the Dojo with Stages and Items listed as sections. It makes me think that we'll only be seeing characters.

Not sure if anyone read the interviews he did after E3, but this is what I read, hopefully correctly.

- There will be no more tripping.
- both versions will have the same amount of characters.
- stages will be exclusives to their respective platforms.
- both versions will not be cross-platform play due to different stages.
- different costumes and things that will be unlocked through repetitive task are not part of the character customization on the 3DS version.
- Gamepad on the Wii U version will not have special features to avoid players having an advantage over another player.
- "Super Smash Bros. 3DS" & "Super Smash Bros. Wii U" are the official titles of the 2 games.
- 3rd party characters will be very limited with Mega Man being the exception due to uniqueness and popularity.

But yea, I think we should turn this thread into our own version of SSB4 Dojo by adding all the info to the OP. What you guys think?

http://playeressence.com/e3-2013-super-smash-bros-wii-u-will-have-a-single-player-campaign-new-details/

-Wii U version will have single player campaign different from SSE.
-No DLC is planned currently due to focus on getting the final product out. It's possible once the game goes gold, however.
-Sakurai wants to find a proper balance between Melee (fast paced and suited for veterans) and Brawl (slow paced and suited for newcomers).

You can tell the extra power the Wii U is finally capable of, look at how smooth Kirby is in that picture.

Hell yeah! Wii U is the first Nintendo console capable on 1080p, so doing something like that is easy.

Here is an interesting interview with Sakurai concerning how the rosters are usually handled. Its a must-read if your concern about the roster.

Nice to hear that it was easy to get approval for Mega Man, but damn, I can't imagine stressful how stressful the process of deciding who returns, leaves, gets added and excluded.

I agree with that lest except that G&W should be in the 50/50 category. I think there's a change that Villager might replace him, though it is just a hunch.

They better not cut Ike. I don't want to try and main yet ANOTHER Fire Emblem character that isn't Marth.

Honestly, I would've probably swapped Wolf and Falco's positions, but outside of that, think Ganon got it right on the money.

Mercury: Nah, he's too popular to scrap, and besides Villlager looks more like a Toon Link replace to me.

Kirby: The reason I put Ike there is because like Roy, Ike was simply the latest FE hero when Brawl was released, he will likely be replaced by Chrom.

XtyKing: That's a possibility, but I kept Falco due to his history with the Smash franchise.

Blue: I don't think they'll cut him, I almost put him on the "Safe" list but I still don't think he's secure enough, but he's damn close.

Ganon that list is just so biased.
More than half of the characters on your possible cutting block are not getting removed.
